“A great desert experience”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

I've just recently come back from a wonderful trip in Jordan. One of the highlights was for sure our night in the Bedouin Lifestyle Camp. I was travelling with my husband and 20-year old daughter and we were overwhelmed by the experience in the desert: the sunset, the night under a starry sky, and the Bedouin hospitality. The camp is rather basic (the generator is turned off at 9:30 pm and there's only cold water) but it has a wonderful atmosphere, and after a traditional dinner there was entertainment with Bedouin music and dances. What was best however was chatting around a fire in the desert well into the night and getting to know our hosts a little bit better. We'd love to go back some day.

We had a fantastic time! Our guide Sulieman was lovely and took us to lunch with his Bedouin family in the desert. He explained everything we saw and gave us lots of time to explore - and a sand board to try on the dunes :) He also helped us to climb Um Frouth which was brilliant!
Attallah was so helpful both before (via email arranging our jeep trip, and bus from our hotel in wadi musa) and during our stay (last minute organising of camels) - and he even arranged a taxi from wadi rum to the Dead Sea. The food was lovely and everyone so helpful and welcoming - we would definitely come back here and didn't want to go!

Thanks to Attallah and his team of local guides for giving us such a great experience in Wadi Rum. The generosity and kindness of Ala, who led us around this vast desert sharing stories of the people who were born and grew up there was incredible. On arriving in Jordan I put my back out. Not only was Attallah very flexible in allowing my husband i to move dates around but he and the other members of the team went to great lengths to make sure i had a chair and anything else i needed to be comfortable. The hospitality of these guys in second to none. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to make up there own experience with the guidance of people who really know this landscape.

We stayed for one night as part of our wedding anniversary trip to Jordan. We took the 6 hour jeep ride, during which Alwad, our guide, explained all the things we saw at each stop. We were given all the time we needed to explore, and he was ready to move on when we were. He helped us to climb up to the rock bridges and acted as photographer, and had good knowledge of his subject. The jeep was a bone-shaker but was covered by a canopy and was up to the job-in fact, great fun! The packed lunch was basic but the dinner (cooked traditionally on coals in the ground) was great and the breakfast also was good-flat breads, dips, eggs jams etc. There was also music in the evening-an ode (looks a bit like a lute) player, and dancing-lead by Attalah! The beds were clean and comfortable and the toilet and shower facilities were also clean, although the water ran out late on in the evening. The generator was turned off at about 9.45pm but we were so tired we went to sleep-you could take a kindle or a torch and read!
The trip was well run and Attalah took payment at the end so that "if we were not satisfied, we didn't have to pay"! We were very satisfied-it was a great experience-thanks to all the Bedouin Lifestyles people who made it so memorable!

We travelled in a family group of 6 adults in February (see review March 17, with which we fully concur).

As you can only book the accommodation (not sightseeing etc) on Tripadvisor, by direct email correspondence with Attallah we pre-arranged the whole of our stay, including a full day camel/jeep tour, minibus from Petra (JD7 each) and onward transport direct to the Wadi Araba border crossing (2 x taxis at JD30 per car). Attallah's command of English is excellent. Email address off the camp's own website.

We had a brilliant day in the desert, and thoroughly appreciated our guide Alaa's helpful and respectful nature and his quiet sense of humour. Also the tasty and surprisingly substantial lunch he cooked for us deep in the desert. Tents at the camp are basic but comfortable and full bedding is provided. Electric lighting available in the evening. The evening meal was a sumptuous and delicious Bedouin buffet and some local entertainment was provided.

Some tips:
1. don't forget the sunscreen - even if it's cloudy you can still get windburnt!

2. "cash only" so take enough, as the camp has no credit card facilities nor are there ATMs in the locality, we understood

3. there is a charge of a few JD on entry into the national park (before you go to the camp). On the minibus we were warned not to hand the fee over to anyone except staff in the Park office yet on arrival Attallah's brother asked for the fees so they could later be paid in bulk on behalf of all their guests for that day. This caused considerable drama with the Park staff and although it was all eventually resolved ok this aspect needs to be properly sorted out to get round that awkward situation.

Despite that last point, as a group we are all very happy to recommend Attallah and the Bedouin Lifestyle Camp experience - you won't be disappointed.

We stayed overnight, after doing a half day camel ride with Abdullah. It was absolutley fantastic, it was only myself and my boyfriend with Abdullah for about 4 hours going around the desert on camel and it was brilliant. You can do larger groups but this was perfect!!
The dinner provided by the bedioun guys was a fatnastic experience and the 'beduoin whisky' (never ending supply of sweet tea) with the amazing entertainment was a night I will never forget.
The guys are so friendly, and all they what to do is give you the best experience you can get. They offer a wide range of activities, which we couldnt do as we were limited to a day and a half, but I would definetely advise staying 2 nights, one night under the stars has to be done, and the sand boarding sounds like alot of fun!!

This was our first experience in the dessert and it will remain unforgettable. Me and my friend, we felt so wonderfulyl welcomed among the Bedouins that we totally forgot the life 'outside'. We booked a 4 hrs Jeep tour with an awesome guide who took care of us the whole trip. In the evening we enjoyed the friendly hospitality of the Bedouins and were sitting around the fire under the bright stars while having a wonderful diner.
I definitely recommend this camp and would come back any time.
