This camp was incredible and the hospitality was lovely. It was right in the desert, so picturesque! And the stars were beautiful at night, although it was very cold at night I was given extra blankets and I slept well. The Caravan Camp is clean and comfortable.

It was arranged for me to go on a jeep tour around the desert, and the option of camels. Everyone was helpful, the food was tasty and local. Peaceful location. I'd recommend Caravan Camp to anyone who wants an amazing experience in the desert!

I am a single parent traveller who backpacked around the Middle East with my 9 year old daughter this past month. We had more than our share of fun and saw some incredibly interesting places, but out time camping in Wadi Rum ranks near the top for sure!!

From the moment we arrived at Caravan Camp, we felt absolutely safe and at home! Sameh, the owner, and Abdul, his friend went out of their way with kindness and hospitality. At no time did I have any concerns or complaints.

We arrived in the intense mid- afternoon heat, and they had a perfect, covered (shady) bedouin area with soft, colourful carpets, pillows and benches for an afternoon siesta and conversation with some lovely tea. A wonderful way to pass the hot afternoon until we were ready to head out for some 4x4 ing in the desert.

Our incredible driver (Sam Halawa - from Petra Rocks) organized both our time at this lovely camp, and, our journey into the desert with a warm man named Abu-Hamzeh (sp?). We met him at hus home, and he was gracious enough to show us around his home - olive trees, goats, etc. - Very generous with his time and hospitality also!

We headed out into the desert. Did a little dune jumping, stopped a few interesting places to scramble some rock shelves, saw the rock formation that was on the cover of the Lawrence of Arabia book, etc.

He found us a perfect dune close to sunset time, we climbed it together and he built a little fire, boiled some tea, crisped up some pita & cheese, and we all sat in silence watching the most incredible sunset I have ever seen! Not only that, but as the sun set, we were lucky enough to witness the full moon rise directly behind us over another group of rocks....magical!!

After we satisfied our time in the desert, we drove in the darkness back to the camp (which is not a party camp, but a nice, quiet one!!). While we were gone, the owner had been cooking up a storm!!

WOW, you wanna talk about good food! What a spread!! Lovely spiced chicken, rice, a spicy salsa and a mild salsa to go with the chicken, roast eggplant, cucumber salad, cooked potatoes, pita....SOOOO good!! More than we had eaten in weeks!!

After dinner it was approaching 10 p.m., and Sameh lit a wonderful fire and we all retired to seperate comfy pillowed benches to stretch out and look at the millions of stars (the Milky Way was awesome!!), we enjoyed the cool desert breeze, and listened to some wonderful, Syrian violin music... and grank more tea. I was lulled to sleep, and apparently my daughter was too. I woke up after midnight and we went to our tent for the night, although we could have easily slepy outside where we were!!

The tents have cots and lots of pillows and blankets. There are candles and matches if you want light, but we just went to bed and were lulled back to sleep by the lovely desert breeze.

We woke up early to a hearty breakfast (boiled eggs, hummus, vegetables, pita, cheese, honey, jams, coffee, etc.) and more nice company and conversation.

After breakfast, our driver Sam arranged a suprise for my daughter and a camel showed up and she got to go for a camel ride into the desert....she was thrilled!

A really lovely camp with really genuinely nice owner and staff. I can see us visiting there again in the future as it is a place with experiences and memories that we can't stop talking about.

By the way, there is running water, seperate men's and wonen's washrooms with toilets and showers.
