Just got back from a fantastic trip to Jordan. During our visit we stayed overnight in Wadi Rum. I found our local and excellent host Saleh through internet.
We stayed in bedouin tents and the family prepared a lovely dinner for us. Our 2 kids (5 years old) enjoyed playing with Saleh's kids and loved running around & playing safely for hours. The night was cold (bring lots of warm clothes) but wonderful. We stayed up around the indoor campfire while Salehs relative poured us hot sweet tea. At night, once the moon was behind the mountains, we saw millions of stars in the clear sky. We woke up just before sunrise and went for a short walk to see the sunset. The kids were amazed by the wild flowers that seemed to have sprung up everywhere overnight.
When we got back to the camp we had a hearty breakfast with some warm tea & coffee. After breakfast Saleh took us for a trip through Wadi Rum in the back of his open car. The kids loved it. We also went Sandboarding which was lots of fun for the whole family.
When we got tired we drove to an area with amazing views of Wadi Rum (even more amazing than before) and Saleh & his friend cooked us a fantastic meal the traditional way, in a hole in the ground.
The trip was amazing and we will definitely return soon.
Thanks Saleh for the warm welcome you gave us and for the great experience!

Our first visit in Jordan, and this sounded like an interesting place. We had a two day visit together with bedouin Saleh and his brother. It was a fantastic landscape and a very, very nice tour.

We took a 2 hour, 4X4 jeep ride through Wadi Rum. This is a magical place, beautiful beyond description. It is also where the movie "Lawrence of Arabia" was filmed and where King Hussain met his second wife who became the mother of the current king, Abdullah II. We started our tour at 2:30 and the sun set around 4:45 (December) so we had lovely sunset views. This is definitely a place that takes your breath away. The cost from our hotel in Aqaba for a 1/2 day excursion was $140 US but since we were with a group it was included. I noted that at the visitor center the cost was only $35 US.

I traveled to Wadi Rum a couple of times and absolutely loved it. It is a must see for every traveler coming to Jordan. I went with wadi rum trekking and they were amazing, the experience they created was fantastic and I even got to meet the family of my tour guide in the village. It was an experience I wouldn't trade for the world!

We booked a day and a half with Jordan Tracks to visit Wadi Rum. It was an unforgettable experience. We saw the main sights, climed the highest sand dune, danced with the beduins, ate great food, drank lots of sweet tea, rode a couple of hours on camel (does give you a sore back...) and spent a night in a beduin camp. Fantastic!
We indicated to Saleem at Jordan tracks what we wanted stating the age of our kids and he gave us the best of suggestions on how to spend our time. Would go again anytime - the place is pure magic.
