Obeid's Bedouin Life Camp
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 7, 2014

We did a 4wd sunset tour in the evening and slept under the stars overnight. These are both must do activities in our book and we thoroughly enjoyed both. Don't expect luxury tents or anything other than basic but if you want to enjoy the luxury of feeling the solitude of being in the desert this is an excellent place for that experience. One luxury was the shower block! Dinner cooked in a pit, very tasty.

Room Tip: Under the stars is the best room in the house

We had an amazing tour of Jordan thanks to Obeid. Obeid is a charming guy, reliable and great company. We had only a few days to arrange our hotels and tour of Jordan after booking the flights. After trying 2 travel agents and 2 days to go with nothing arranged a friend recommended Obeid and sent an initial email. Within a couple of hours I had an email from Obeid asking our requirements and very quickly our trip was arranged. Obeid collected us from Amman airport and drove us to all the sites we wanted to visit, Jerash, Dead Sea, Kerak, Petra. Along the way he suggested a visit to Wadi Mujib, which meant donning a life jacket and getting very wet as we waded and scrambled over waterfalls through the gorge. Floating on our backs being swept by the current looking up at the steep gorge walls on the way back was even better! It was great and one if the highlights of our trip. We wouldn't have known about this if Obeid hadn't suggested it. We stayed at Obeids Bedouin camp, our tent was clean and cozy. We only had time for 1 night but it was an amazing experience. Loved the jeep tour with Nial, then back to camp for excellent dinner cooked in the sand pit. Extra special was lying on the rugs outside looking up at the stars, chatting with Obeid and his sons and the only other couple who we're staying that night. Another memorable moment was getting up and out of our tent first thing in the morning and just being out in the desert in the early morning sun. Better than getting up in a 5 star hotel! After breakfast we had a camel ride, even the camels were friendly. Then Obeid drove us all the way back to Madaba and the next day back to the airport. Obeid and his sons Nial and Salam made us very welcome and thoroughly looked after us. We hope very much to be able to visit again. Highly recommended.

This is it. The real Bedouin camp. The authentic one. This is not a commercial operation. It is run by three young brothers who will welcome you and look after you as if you were visiting relatives. Thank you for your genuine hospitality!

Obeid's Desert Life Camp

Amazing experience. Highly recommend. We will stay here again. Obeid was very prompt in returning emails. We crossed from Eilat to Aqaba. Crossing was painless since Obied had someone to meet us inside customs and helped us navigate Jordanian customs. The process was quick. Obeid was there to meet us. He drove us to Petra, got lunch and water for us before entering Petra (they gouge you on food and water once inside the park). He was there to meet us after to take us to his camp. As we are driving into Wadi Rum you start noticing large bedouin camps. Obeid's camp is small and cozy, only several tents. This is a true family run camp. We were greeted by his son and nephew. In true bedouin culture, tea was served and we sat and got to know the other couple staying in the camp. During our stay, we lucked out since there was only four of us. The traditional bedouin barbecue (cooked in a pit dug in the sand) was fantastic. We were ushered outside where seating/lounging areas were arranged around the fire. We were entertained with singing by Obeid and sons. Knowing that there would be a light breeze all night, they set up beds for us outside so we can sleep under the stars. Amazing. The rest of our stay (2 nights 3 full days) were equally amazing but I don't want to ramble on. Find out for yourselves.
Ps. If you have any concerns, requests or problems, do not hesitate to contact Obeid.

This somewhat surreal place in the middle of the beautiful desert in Wadi Rum offers you clean and cozy tents, well looked after facilities, great food and most importantly: a genuine hospitality, the kind that is not fakeable!

I moved to Jordan from England last year and have been fortunate enough to visit several camps in Jordan to date however, this camp is by far one of my favourites. I highly value the work of Obeid and his 2 sons. Unfortunately our stay was limited to 1 night, so I definitely recommend you take more time to experience living like a Bedouin and spending time with these amazing hosts.

10/10 is my rating for this camp

We scheduled a 3-hour jeep tour with Obeid-- and it was fabulous!! Obeid's son Nail met us at the visitor center and took care of us every step of the way. Nail was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and FUN! We laughed a lot as we explored Wadi Rum. We would highly recommend Obeid's Bedouin Life Camp-- we wouldn't go to anyone else! Thank you Obeid and Nail for a fantastic day! -Hannah and Gail
