This museum houses countless historical pieces from the region. Of particular note are the bronze and pottery artifacts that date from 5000 BC and an extensive collection of Islamic books and manuscripts. On the second floor, visitors can views traditional costumes from throughout Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan. BUT the highlight for me was the impressive and eclectic collection of metal sculptures by Ahad Hosseini in the basement. The building and museum is showing its age and could use some TLC and modernization.

Well worth a visit to this museum. The displays were quite interesting, as we were trying to learn as much as we could in order to appreciate our total Iranian holiday. Such a variety of exhibits, each well set out. I appreciated that it was not a modern museum - it is showing its age, but that just adds to the atmosphere of this ancient civilisation.

If you have seen other more impressive museums in Tehran, Armenia or Georgia, this is the one that you can afford to miss especially if you only have limited time to spend in Tabriz. The other good point is it is located within walking distance from bazaar and just next to Blue Mosque (Kabul Mosque) in which you can indeed see both at one go.

We only had a single day in Tabriz and had wanted to spend it in the bazaar - which was, however, closed as a result of a religious holiday. So we ended up at this museum instead, and spent 60 quite enjoyable minutes there. The museum is clearly not up-to-date in terms of the way in which exhibits are displayed; it feels very old. This is a shame, because some of the exhibits are really quite stunning. The same exhibits in a modern museum with proper lighting etc. would give quite a different impression! But obviously, this would cost a lot of money...
On the lowest floor, there are some very interesting sculptures made by Ahad Hosseini.

Every floor has its own character: images of old Tabriz, coins, statues of an artist from Tabriz, ancient things related to different ages of history found in the area (Azerbaijan) and also any guide you need to have a good time in Tabriz.
