We were so lucky to find Marubas on our first night on Samosir Island. Ita
Is a fantastic chef. Everything we ordered was prepared fresh to order. The first night, we were able to see a beautiful lightning storm from her restaurant. We ordered so much food: pad Thai, sambul Tempe, green salad...everything we ordered was out of this world delicious. The next day, we ate light all day and pre-ordered a kilo of lobsters for dinner. The lobsters were to die for. She brought them out live and then went back to the kitchen to work her magic. We had salad and fresh juice while we waited. She brought out the lobsters, she had grilled them and put a special sauce on... We could not stop eating them. They were SO good. I cannot recommend this place any more, it is just a beautiful experience eating at Marubas. Nice family, great ( but very basic) ambiance, and obviously, great food. So far, the lobsters are the best meal I've had in Indonesia. Go here next time you are on Samosir, you will thank me later!

Thank StephFerry

It was a bit difficult to find this restaurant. It is just around the corner from Pandu Lakeside Resort. We had the best meal in the island here and the price is very very reasonable. The Ayam Semur with rice is simply delicious and the avocado with chocolate is the best I ever had. The highlight is the soft bread. Don't miss it.

We were drawn here by the ranking in TripAdvisor.
It looks like it is a family-owned restaurant.
The family just staying below the restaurant.

Well, this restaurant never goes wrong.
You can order anything on the menu.
The food is just incredible.

We have no idea what to order at first.
Then the friendly and helpful Indonesian lady owner recommended us some.
We ordered Bratkartoffeln, Ayam Semur (Indonesia style chicken stew), plain rice and Avocado with chocolate.
The food is really amazing.

So, we went back the second night and ordered Bratkartoffeln AGAIN and a pancake.
This restaurant seems to serve very nice both western food and Indonesian food.
It is a must eat in Samosir.

I order 1/2 kg of lobster lake (around 10 pcs) and bbq fish.
The lobster quite nice but the fish is too small compare to Jenny's and Orari, and taste just like regular Indonesian bbq fish. Maybe I should try the bread instead :)
But the owner very friendly and the atmosphere not so bad.

We were recommended to go to Maruba by a couple we met who said the freshly baked bread was good. Luckily we head there on our first day, we have a bacon, cheese, avocado and chicken baguette (yes we're hungry). It is amazing. Everything is freshly made or straight from the garden. She even makes her own bacon which is awesome. We have eaten there everyday since at least once. The curry, napi nadir, crispy anchovies, home made burger, sandwiches, lobster are all fantastic. The burger is one of nicest i have ever eaten. To top it all off Ita and Tom are lovely, if you ask she gives you detailed information on all her dishes along with interesting and friendly conversation. The highlight was their dog called Brown who is gorgeous and cuddly. We tried many other places but no where came close to the price and quality you get at Maruba. The best place to eat on Samosir, don't miss out.
