We stayed for two nights on Tuk Tuk on 31-08-2011 and 01-09-2011. The second day was in Horas Indah because it was fully booked on 31 of august. I asked the owner Mr. Berend if he had suggestion for other accommodation near his place because we would very much stay at Horas after reading all the reviews on TA. Instead of merely a suggestion, he went all the way in helping us to book a room at Bagus Bay Homestay which is his neighbour. He had also arranged our transportation from a hotel in Medan and back by using Bagus Taxi in Parapat. Upon arriving in our room at Bagus Bay, there was a baby crib that was prepared by Mr./Mrs. Berend. I barely mentioned that there is a baby in our group in our email exchange. That was very nice indeed.

When we moved to Horas on the second day, there was no comparison between the room at Bagus and Horas. Horas Indah has everything, satellite tv, big refrigerator, a kitchen with complete set of utensils: toaster, blender, frying pan, you name it. If you plan to cook your meal on the island, perhaps it's a good idea to prepare and bring the ingredients from Parapat or Medan in advance as I would think they are not easy to find on Samosir or as complete.

The food that Mrs. Silalahi had cooked for our dinner was really excellent, we had to ask for more rice! The price was really reasonable if not cheap.

I think there are only two cottages available at Horas. We were so lucky to get one on the peak of holiday season in Indonesia (Idul Fitri). I suggest you book many months in advance if you are interested to stay at this superb accomodation in Tuk Tuk.

If your planing to stay on pulau samosir at danau toba look no further than Horas Family Home . i recently stayed here with a large group in one of there apartments , everything i read on TA was absolutely accurate , superbly appointed accommodation , absolute lake frontage with stunning water views . the attention to detail at Horas is something you dont often see ....... free pick your own vegetable garden , pet rabbits and dogs for the the kids to play with and a beautifull orchid display . the owners and staff go out of there way to help with all your needs and questions with a big smile . I would not hesitate to recommend this amazing homestay .

Room tip: apartment on the water front .

Allthough the price is a bit high for the Horas Inda accomodation, we would like to recommend this appartments to everyone who likes to combine the cosyness of this accomodation with the beautiful environment. The appartements are very clean en completely equiped. What we liked most was the overwelming hospitality of the owners, the Dutchman mr. Bakker and his wife. They allowed us to use fruits and vegatbles from their garden and did everything they could to make us feel at home. Mrs. Bakker even accompanied us to Parapat. We had to go there because the ATM-machine on the island didn't work. She even offered us to borrow the money we needed from her. This homestay is very suitable for everyone who likes the intimacy of a small but comfortable setting, directely to the border of the Lake Toba. It is possible to cook your own meal in the appartment, but you can also have breakfast/lunch/dinner in one of the nice restaurants nextdoor.

We stayed at Horas Family Home in early July for a few days. The hotel is very conveniently located, rooms are spacious and equipped with everything necessary. And it should be noted that the best thing in this hotel - it is its owners and staff. Mr. Berend Bakker - an interesting conversationalist and a man willing to fissile useful information about the rest at Samosir island. Where to have dinner, where to buy a bottle of good whiskey, produced not in Indonesia, how to rent a car with a driver for research Samosir or for a trip around Lake Toba - all this can be found at Berend. And it's nice early in the morning to sneak past the rabbit hutches and swim in the quiet lake! Of course, the existence of Lake Toba - the merit of God, not by Mr. Becker, but we must pay tribute and to Mr. Bakker and his wife, Mian, who did everything to ensure that their guests get the most out of visiting this place. My wife and I are not used to make repeated trips, but if we would ever think again to visit Indonesia and Sumatra, we are pleased to again visit the Horas!

We had been staying on Samosir and after stumbling upon Horas family one evening we immediately knew this was the place for us and ended up staying even longer on Samosir.
The location is just perfect as it is on the lake, the charming Batak architecture of the accomodation, surrounded by beautiful gardens, with a vast collection of different orchid species and full of fruit and vegetables to freely pick and choose.
The staff couldn't have been any more friendly and accommodating, and the local knowledge we received was priceless. Even their pets felt like our own.
We knew exactly how to enjoy ourselves at Horas Family Home, and really felt at home.

Having spent over a year visiting South- East Asia, i can honestly say this was definitely the best accommodation we have stayed at and it proved to be key in our great experience on Samosir.
