Hotel worn out and over the top. Bathroom extremely worn out, door half rotten, taps loose, very dirty shower.... Won't go there anymore.
Restaurant looks more like North Korean Party congress hall

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the island, Toledo Inn is right at the waterfront and offers beautiful views of the lake any time of the day. Given how little information about the resort there is online, I was surprised to see its actual size and the number of rooms available, having expected it to be some sort of small-scale business. The management must have been sleeping since the '90s with the decline of tourism in the area! Still the place provides a lot of values to non-demanding tourists with clean and extremely spacious rooms, a quiet atmosphere as well as friendly staff. The designated swimming area has quite a bit of weed though. Breakfast menu is simple, offering a choice of either Indonesian fried noodles / rice, or Western toasts. If you are simply looking for a place to relax with a book, and enjoy the peaceful landscape, Toledo Inn is your bet. Just look for all the adventure and entertainment possibilities elsewhere outside the inn; shops and restaurants are within five minutes of walk. Do rent a motorbike or bike to roam around the island and explore the fantastic environment of Samosir! If possible, stay for at least 4 full days.

Excellent views of the lake, rooms basic and not suitable for disabled as the hotel is built into the hillside. Poor breakfast but very good restaurants in the village.

The rooms are simple but adaquate, but the grounds are stunning. The restaurant is good, laundry is fast and inexpensive, good breakfasts and good internet. No A/C but not needed. Samosir Island is the inner cone of a former giant volcano. It is amazing to sit by the water and look all around and see what remains of that long ago beast. I think the volcano is some 40 miles in diameter. Bar not open until 4PM.

I stayed there on 2nd of Sept 2011. The journey to there was very long, took 4 hrs to the jetty and another 3 hrs waiting for ferry to the island. The guide told us that normal days it would be only 5 hrs in total from Medan. I was later told there is a resort private boat that will pick up from Parapat to the resort straight but need to book with the resort ahead. It will save all the time waiting for ferry to the island and from island.
The rooms there were clean but not much new things. No AC neither fan, may be due to chill weather in night. They need to repair some of the power points in the room I stayed.
Hotel breakfast is very simple and limited only. It was covered in room cost. The bar is closed early on the day.
The surrounding of the resort is very nice place, lake view, breezy wind, water sport, naturally green plants and do have small huts.
The staff are friendly though not good in English. They were helpful too and of course with minimum tips.

Room tip: Nice breakaway location with good lake view with simplicity facilities.
