The view of the volcano is magnificent, but don't expect great food at the restaurants overlooking the volcano.

walking to the summit of an active volcano, in the dark, what an experience! Do it, do it do it. Steam issueing from little vents on the way up, panoramic vista as the sun gradually lightened the sky; including across to Lombok, incredible lake, fishing villages, all topped off by soaking my aching muscles in the divine Mt Batur hot springs after the climb. An exquisite start to my day!

We had a private guide a local geologist, who guided us up to the third crater. Steam vents were amazing to experience and the climb was moderately difficult but very doable, and truly unforgettable

We booked a private trekking tour and started at 3AM. 600,000 Rupiah per person, plus 100,000 to tip for the guide. It was awesome! The night we started, the sky was really beautiful with many stars. We had a chance to lay down in the middle of the path to watch stars.

The climbing path is not so difficult but will be a bit tough for first timers like us. But the sun rise scene at the top is a good pay off.

Be careful that when the sun comes out, the monkeys will come to steal food from visitors and there is no restroom over there. Other than that, this activity is a must try in Ubud!

The trip was very nice. We started from Ubud, it was showering at night and we were about to cancel the trip. But finally we went and it payed of fully. We saw a clear sky with thousands of stars, the climbing was not too hard, even my friend in flip-flops managed it. The sunrise was one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen. The view of the volcano on the opposite side and the lake on the bottom surrounded by clouds won't touch you only if you are heartless. All the people were very excited and enthusiastic and the overall atmosphere was very nice. And no "taxi-taxi" on the way.
!!! But keep in mind, that the reason am be price for this tour including transportation is 300-350k per persone even after the fuel price increase. If they start telling you fairy tales about a super expensive entrance and guide, look for other people to make this tour for you.
