Luwansa Hotel
Ranked #2 of 15 Palangkaraya B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 30, 2012

This hotel is not located on a central area, but I still think that it's not too much of a problem since Palangkaraya itself is not a big city, so if you rented a car, that wouldn't be a problem.

The room is good, quite large and very clean. The staffs are so nice, they helped me to buy things from nearest store since I was too lazy to step put of the hotel (and partly because I don't know where to buy it). However, I think the staffs are still not trained very well. They move so slow. The breakfast is also only average, and I think they didn't put enough salt&seasonings on the veggies.

I love the concept of using glass ceiling, Palangkaraya is near the equator so the sun shines really bright that you don't need artificial lighting. However that's a boomerang because the hall outside of the meeting room is not equipped with A/C so it could be quite hot.

I had a 4 night stay at this hotel recently and was sadly disappointed. Check-in was prompt and the staff were friendly enough. The rooms were okay and the bed comfortable. Cleanliness was okay apart from the cobwebs on the walls in the bathroom which remained there for the 4 days that I stayed. The faucet on the handbasin was loose for the entire stay and for the last night I had only a trickle of hotwater in the shower. The televsion has only Indonesia channels. There is no swimming pool or fitness centre, also no business centre. Wifi internet in the rooms was poor most of the time. For a hotel of this size the restaurant is totally inadequate and in the evening the live music/karaoke is very loud. On 1 night, due to 2 groups reserving the restaurant we were forced to sit outside on the large balcony, this would have been fine if the few tables were of adequate size and the smoke from the burning rubbish was blowing in a different direction. The service in the restaurant was very poor for the time that I was there, having to wait for more than an hour for a bowl of soup and a steak. When the steak eventually arrived I asked about the soup, it was obviously forgotten. I have stayed in other hotels in Palangkaraya where both the service and facilities have been far more acceptable.

Yes this is a pretty new hotel which looks all flashy on the outside (and the inside) but once you actually stay here you'll notice the main problem. Under-trained staff. The staff themselves are friendly and try their best but lack the basics when it comes to customer service. The restaurant being the worst contender for this. Many times the waiters would not be looking around to see if customers required attention. Food or drink would take too long to arrive or be out of stock. Not something you expect to happen in a large hotel. I dread to think how they would have coped if the hotel was full.

The good points though were the rooms were of a decent standard and were clean. As was the bathroom. The laundry service was good and the in-room wi-fi was excellent too.

All in all, not a bad hotel but with just a little more effort could be a pretty good hotel.

They said this is the newest hotel at Palangkarya. The building and its modern-yet-ethnic-minimalist interiors was very nice, the food was quite delicious, and the price was worthed. The best part of this hotel is the hospitality of their services. We always greeted with smiles. The hotel crews are responsive and suave to customers.

My wife n I stayed here for just 1 night in early June 2011 en route to Jakarta. Every thing about this hotel was new as it had only opened for business several months ago. It had an open concept with a lot of energy saving fixtures.
This had never happened to me before as I had left my gold chain and other jewellry upon checking out. Only realised it some 3 hours of checking out. Called the reception and within 15 minutes a return call came through. The house keeping team had found my gold chain and rings. it was safetly returned to me with nothing more than a genuine smile.
What impressed me most was the honestly n friendly attitude of all those working in this hotel.
Have decided that luwasa will be the only hotel that I stay in Palangkaraya from now on.
