Valley Mountain Hotel
Ranked #70 of 206 Vung Tau B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 2, 2011

This is the second time I have stayed at the Valley Mountain. I returned because of the previous good experience when the hotel first opened and the Boutique feel.

Unfortunately the owners have let the hotel run-down, with no signed of any money spent on it since opening. The rooms are still nice, but there are small problems that you don't expect when you are paying 100USD / night (remember this is Vietnam). Threadbare towels and sheets with huge holes in them, the toilet seat sitting on the floor, inoperable safes. Gone is the breakfast buffet, replaced by a limited menu with limited selections. The hotel was also running on a bare minimum of staff.

I would suggest that before you pay 100USD for a room, that you shop around for a hotel that is maintained and has some staff when you are looking for them.

Room Tip: Try another hotel.

We must be lucky so far as we seem to have had some really top places to stay in and this place was no exception. We came to Vung Tau for Long Tan or Vietnam Veterans Day and struck it lucky by staying here. It is a little out of the way. About 5 minutes by taxi from the centre of town and being set back from the main road makes for a very quiet sleep. Away from the constant honking of horns of the traffic of Vietnam. As other reviews have stated the icecream on a hot day is a welcome treat on arrival. Reception is beautiful as is the pool area. The view from the room overlooking the sea spectacular as is the huge statue of the Madonna on the mountain . The beds were comfortable. Every room has its own hot water system. It also has security on site. We had both dinner and breakfasts in the restaurant and enjoyed all with plenty of variety and as with all food in Vietnam it is very inexpensive. Once again if I was to come back to Vung Tau I would endeavour to stay here.

The hotel is small and in a quite area. Servive was fantastic with a very helpful and friendly manager/owner. Staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and looked after. The hotel and rooms were very clean. Pool area nice and peaceful.
Breakfast was good with a decent selection.
Only one disappointment - There are posters in the hotel advertising a bbq and live music EVERY Saturday which we were looking forward to; however when we got up to the roof top ready to enjoy it we were told it was not on this week.

We spent New Years Eve at the hotel after doing a trip to Nui Dat and the Long Tan Cross. We were welcomed and seated with a complimentary ice cream, which was great on a warm day, before being shown to our room. The room was clean and comfortable with a view of the hills behind the hotel. We booked for the hotel's New Years Eve buffet bbq which turned out to be a great night with a band and plenty of food and wine. The pool area was good and the breakfast was OK but nothing special and the breakfast area had a great view over the sea. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Vung Tau who wants somewhere quiet to stay.

I have stayed in this hotel (it's not a B&B) a few times throughout 2010 and I'm glad they've listed on Tripadvisor because it's a gem of a hotel. It's modern, the rooms are spotlessly clean and the staff are exceptionally polite and helpful. The facilities are good too, with swimming pool, gym, terraced restaurant overlooking the sea, and games and playstation room.

They occasionally do $35usd a night deals with a free breakfast which is great value for money. Try to get the sea view rooms if you can but the mountain view ones are fine too. All rooms I've stayed in have been clean, comfortable and very quiet.

The only slight drawback of this hotel is it's quite far from the city centre - not walkable and maybe 5-10 mins in a taxi, but if you want somewhere with peace and quiet then its ok.

I would definitely recommend this place especially if you can get one of the promotion deals.
