This was a good tour and the boat paddlers where not as pushy and there were no sellers trying to sell water or other goods. This trip has about 10 caves that you go through. There are some camera people but we turned away when they came near and they seemed to get the message. We were lucky as it was an overcast day and only 26 degrees so quite pleasant. If it is sunny you would need a umbrella and good suntan cream.

We were advised to avoid Tam Coc as too touristy and went to Trang An instead. One word, Stunning!! One of the best places we visited in Vietnam.

This area is so worth going to . The limestone mountains rise out of the earth and create this different world from Ninh Binh. Peaceful and lovely. Full of roosters, chickens, mountain goats, pigs, thousands of white ducks, farming and friendly people who love the earth. i would hate to have missed this .

We agree with others that this is a special experience. The area is stunning, with sheer cliffs, lush greenery, and a beautiful lake. The 2 hour sampan ride is serene and delightful. Our rower, a petite young woman, was so skilled, maneuvering us through very tight spots in the many caves we traversed. Be warned----this is not for the claustrophobic. We were not hassled at all by hawkers.

Although we enjoyed our trip to Trang An it was a bit of a theme park experience - the Vietnamese notion of eco-tourism and nature reserve are not quite what we understand them to be. Although the area is one of great natural beauty, the developers of Tang An are busily modifying the landscape to make it more palatable apparently to Vietnamese tastes: for example, the ceilings of the caves through which the boats travel have been raised by knocking off the stalactites growing from them and the banks of the river are being changed by noisy pumps/dredges which are busily moving soil from one area to another - somewhat destroying the peace and serenity of the scene. Similarly, large-scale re-planting of the banks to eventually make the place prettier seems somewhat at odds with our own notions of leaving nature intact in a nature reserve.
