“A Fantastic atmosphere and location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2012

We stayed here for two nights In May 2012. The location is great - a little bit away from the action to be nice and quiet, yet close enough to walk anywhere that you need. As the other reviewers have said, the attention to detail at the hotel is amazing and you do feel like you are in a museum or similar. The breakfast room is a treat - and rather than a buffet style that many hotels do, they brought plates of cheese, vegetables, meat, eggs etc to our table. Highly reccommended!

We stayed at K. Komil for two nights this past April. I thought it was expensive ($45 a night) - but ALL Uzbekistan hotels are over-priced. The hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are nice, with very large and clean bathrooms. The breakfast room is stunning. The hotel is situated in a nice quiet street, away from the touristy hotel street, but two minutes from everything. Only complaint is that some of the staff were not helpful, unresponsive and not very friendly. And even though there was a VISA sticker on the door, they claimed they did not take credit cards.

I am still amaized by the hotel... From aesthetic point of view, I had a feeling of being in museum, or in art gallery. Visiting Fayzulla Khodjaev House Museum, I had realized, that my hotel is not worse in terms of style and decoration :). From practical point, the hotel is well located, one will find an exellent service and comfortable rooms. Even being demanding, in case of Komil hotel I can't find shortcomings. Very much satisfied.

K. Komil has managed to remain a classy, authentic experience while still taking care of lots of travelers/tourists. Off of a small street/alley which connects to a lovely bazaar in the center of old Bukhara, the B&B entrance is is the reception area continuously staffed by multi-lingual, knowledgeable service-oriented people who take pride in Bukhara and K. Komil. Our room was on the ground floor, off the courtyard, with shutter windows. It was well appointed, with tv, and had a recently updated bathroom. Others have mentioned the dining room - it is awesome. K. Komil also has a coffee/bar room for afternoon drinks and access to online computer.

I stayed here for almost a week and i have nothing but great things to say about this hotel. It is ideally located in the heart of the old centre of Bukhara. The hotel has several rooms that still have their original 19th century design (including the beautiful dining room), and also has newer rooms decorated in the traditional style.
I had everything i could possibly need at Komil - delicious breakfast, exceedingly welcoming hospitality, assistance in organizing desert excursions, tv, proper showers, AC, etc.
(And it was very affordable.)
The best thing though was the staff and owner who were all terrific and made me feel at home.
I highly recommend it.

This hotel has exceptional character, and is really a work of art. Every room is decorated (by the owner) in a unique style - I particularly liked the one with the Afrosiab mural. The dining room is spectacular.

I'd go as far as saying it's the most interesting hotel I've stayed at in a post-Soviet country. In Russia for example, you'll never find hotel that's been designed with such care and creativity.

On more practical matters - location is perfect (right near Lyabi Haus) - the bathrooms are adequate but cramped - the breakfast could do with some decent coffee, but that's always a problem in Uzbekistan. I actually suggested this to the owner, maybe he'll think about it. Laundry service was cheap and efficient.

I'm slightly surprised by the comments that the owner over-charged for taxis and other services. Perhaps it's true, but in my experience he was extremely helpful, and certainly never tried to fleece me. He booked me an air-conditioned taxi to Khiva, which was excellent value, and gave me various helpful advice on other matters.

All in all, I would strongly reccommend this place to anyone - a really unforgettable hotel, and exceptional value for money.

located in the old town, just a short walk away from one of the main trading domes. unlike other hotels that I stayed at in uzbekistan or similar types of cities, I found the hotel extremely easy to find, despite it not being directly on a main street in the old city. no need to worry about remembering which side streets to turn onto while navigating from the trading dome. it's true that the walk from the trading dome to hotel isn't lit at night, but it's literally a straight shot. easy remedy is traveling with a flashlight (which I saw several other tourists doing throughout the city since the old city is just generally not well lit at night). this is the only hotel on my trip for which I had no issues with water, electricity and internet. obviously when those types of issues arise, often a hotel may have little control over remedying the issue, limited knowledge that a shutoff is going to occur and limited information as to when things will be up and running again. so if this happens to you on your trip to the area, just try to be patient and understanding and make the best of things.

it was a nice surprise that they had free wifi throughout the hotel - connection was good enough to make clear calls on skype, etc. the breakfast was definitely the best that i saw on my trip (and far better than what you see in the U.S. for a free breakfast at a hotel) - large spread and delicious food, with a variety of fresh fruits. it seemed like the hotel had a very good reputation around the city. the staff was very good about giving recommendations for restaurants, shopping and just general directions around the old town. they had great attention for detail, were very friendly and great to talk with. they noticed that it was my birthday one of the nights I was staying there, and when I came back from dinner they surprised me with a birthday song and birthday card. very sweet and thoughtful!

i thought the room was lovely and very clean. beautiful detail throughout the hotel. the room had a working mini-fridge, with a stocked mini-bar (pretty reasonably prices). only about half the hotels i stayed in in uzbekistan had working mini-fridges in the room, and none of the others had stocked mini-bars (though some of them claimed to). the bathroom in my room was spacious and had a full bathtub, rather than just being a makeshift shower stall as in some other hotels. i don't think the stairs were any more than I saw in other hotels. unless you are staying in large modern hotels, you really just aren't going to be seeing elevators on your trip to the area. generally in my hotels on my trip, my room was on the second floor (stairs) and only in tashkent did my hotel have an elevator. in any case, they were helpful with luggage and everything. overall, i thought this was a charming, high quality hotel and would recommend it without reservations.

i booked the hotel and transfers to airport/train station through a travel agency (advantour) in advance, so can't really comment on relative prices or other options in bukhara. relative to other hotels that I stayed at during my trip to uzbekistan, this was definitely my favourite. I would also say that it generally stands out from my other traveling.

btw, bukhara has lots of mosquitoes. didn't have any problems with them in my room at the hotel. just plan accordingly if you are going to travel there.
