A relatively massive structure in a location that is characterless. Difficulties and stoppages with lift and electricity including the hot water provision. Fair-> good breakfast. basic dinner, admittedly for a group excursion. Possibly our least attractive stay in that monotonous post-soviet central Asian Democracy called Uzbekistan, providing very little and no intimacy which is what we lacked in that country. Expensive with the alcohol beverages too.

I've just come back from Uzbekistan. The hotel Grand Bukhara seemed correct at the begining, not far from the main monuments. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was ok, not too good not too bad, the guy of the bar was nice, the water of the shower was cold, outside the temperature was -2ºc and inside the heater was not on... But the worst thing was that once we left the hotel, we realized that we had been stolen by the service (inside the closed rooms), we were a group of thirteen people, and they stole to at least 6 people of the group. They stoled me a pair of new socks, my partner of the room was stolen a lot more than me, 100€, a pair of new socks and a pair of new bedsocks, two more people were stolen money, between 100€ and 150€ each one of them, and the other two were stolen a sweater and an umbrella. It was impossible to report it to the police, because the report has to be done in the same city and when we realized about the theft we were already more than one hour far from the city, we called the hotel and they said they were not responsible of anything lost inside the room. It's understandeble with the money, but the personal things as socks and sweaters??? You cannot even leave your clothes at the hotel because these are in danger of being stoled. I would never recomend to go to this hotel, we visited some other hotels in the city much more nicer, smaller and by the monuments, even the three stars were nicer and at least you don't feel so insecure...

This is one hotel that's has nothing much to recommend it. Our tour booked us here, so we had no option.....
A worn out footmat at the entrance really said it all. The rooms are tiny, so two people in one is way too many. There's no place to move around, the toilets are just about ok and the cooling barely works. We had to leave the window open for some circulation of air. Breakfast, the in-house meal was unexceptional. One our first morning, it was fixed fare at each table and we were rather perturbed at the wastage. One the second morning, though laid out open to all, it was rather minimal. Also, overall, the staff could have made an effort to be more helpful.

Room Tip: Buhkhara has far better hotels. Book yourself in any of those.

This is a former Soviet In-Tourist Hotel has been renovated - but suffers from IRD - Incomplete Reincarnation Disorder. Truly awful. We were booked into this dive by a tour company, as were the collective Senior Citizen's clubs of Germany, Spain and Japan. Shoot me if I end up like that.
On the plus side, the one star is for the beds - not the typical Central Asian granite base but actually comfortable with comfortable pillows and doona/duvet.
It is located a long way from anywhere you would want to go in Bukhara in the new (ugly) part of town.
The renovations were finished off by a painter who was either vision impaired or had an intention tremor or both and who had to paint by the dim light of the light globes that actually worked - about half by my estimation.
The room we had had a separate sitting area with a balcony that felt unsafe. The bathroom taps dripped. Fortunately we were staying at a mild time of year where neither cooling or heating was needed because I am not confident either would be in any better working order than any of the facilities.
The breakfast was !@#$%&*. The combination of the aforementioned Seniors and the wait staff who lolled about made the place a zoo.
The wi-fi only works in the bar in the evening and only after you buy something there - and then only partially - tablets don't work for some reason.
We were heartened to see a post office with a post box but don't expect to buy stamps here - only postcards or souvenirs.
Overall, if you are seeking a true Soviet experience - this is for you, otherwise get somewhere else and get a better tour company.

The hotel is rather large and impersonal but provides good accommodation for the tourist. The staff is very helpful and friendly and we found that because the two bars are run by different people it was possible to bargain prices down! It is reasonably located for sight-seeing and for shops/markets although some walking is necessary. There are probably more conveniently located hotels for the old town but this one is certainly adequate. We enjoyed our stay and we believe you would too.

the hotel is fine and delivers what you would expect from a large tourist hotel. Its quite effiicient, has nice rooms and is clean. The shower wasn't great - lacked pressure and direction!! - and overall the decor etc was good.
Breakfast was a good selection, and there were 2 bar areas - one in the lobby and a seperate bar again on the ground floor. Interestingly, these are run seperately by different people so they charge different prices. The lobby bar was the most expensive when we were there.
The hotel is quite a way from town, but we walked about 20 mins to an indoor bazaar which was a great place to visit. As throughout all Uzbekistan, the locals are really friendly and interested to talk to you.

It is difficult to think of anything positive about this hotel.

I was with a group of 5 people on a business trip. A local firm booked the rooms because the hotel is close to the Oblast Headquarters.

ROOM Basic and hot. The A/C in my room and in the room's of my 5 business colleagues is inadequate even by Uzbekistan Hotel standards (which seems to be about 26 or 27 Deg. C). A colleague staying on the 9th floor turned off the A/C and opened his window. His room was immediately filled with flies and mosquitoes (Kudos to the strength of the flies and mosquitoes who could fly so high).

INTERNET - Advertised as having it but it never worked. The staff had no idea of what was happening. When I could not connect, one of the "Slicky Boys (see below)" held up his mobile phone to show that he had a connection. He then wasted 20 minutes of my time trying to get my notebook to connect.

Duh - he was connected to a local, paid service that had nothing to do with the hotel, but he was trying to make me believe that it was my notebook having trouble rather than the lack of a signal.

I had the impression that he wanted me to allow him to get into my notebook configuration for his own purposes

LOBBY - A little cooler but not by much.

CLIENTÈLE - No tourists. This should be a sign of the quality. The other guests were 10th string Russian tennis players and soccer teams.

RESTAURANT - A truly Soviet place. No food. Barely a menu.

THE STAFF - The bar and restaurant staff truly laughed, but my impression is that they were a bunch of "Slicky Boys" whose main purpose was make you feel good about the low grade of beer, wine, and hard liquor that they had as well as the lack of food in the restaurant.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere
