When you see the Cerro from the road it looks quite small. During the walk/climb it looks quite big.
I went with my girlfriend and my mother and it took us about 1 hour to climb it and another hour to get back to the base. There are rocks along most of the way, but it's not complicated and there's no need of any kind of equipment.
The view from the top is amazing and there is a cross about 30 meters tall in the top of the mountain which you can climb to get even higher (it's nice to go since you are already up there, but the view is basically the same).
