These ruins are not only beautiful to look at, they’re also delightfully uncrowded. As a result, a very peaceful place to spend time. A complete gem of an attraction.
Wat Mahathat is the most impressive temple ruin in the Sukothai Historical Park. Centrally located you will not miss it and you shouldn’t. This place is definitely well worth a visit. You can use the steps and visit the whole ruin. Don’t be surprised to meet some dogs inside the ruins. They seem to live there but don’t take notice of the tourists.
The compound is big with lots of stupas, Buddha images and ruins. It attracts quite a number of visitors. In front of the temple, there is a lotus pond, a nice place to take photo too.
From afar, it has that beautiful reflection on the pond right in front of it. From near, it is apparently gigantic and simply awesome! So worth visiting!!!
Wat Mahathat (royal temple) is the most impressive in the paid area of the park and the only structure that required more than a half hour to thoroughly see.
