5 out 5. Nam Yang Kung Fu Retreat Pai.

I spent four weeks at the Nam Yang Kung Fu Retreat in Pai, Thailand. The combination of the location, tranquility of being in and surrounded by nature, the structure of the Qi Kong (Chi Kung) and Kung Fu programs led by Master Iain and the wonderful instructors (in alphabetic order) AJ, Christine, Luvanna and Veronica, the kind and helpful support staff, fresh healthy food (breakfast and dinner) made this one of my profound experiences.

I surpassed my personal physical goals of being more flexible, agile, improved balance and mentally calm and stronger.

Master Iain and the entire team are motivated to bring the best out of you. They helped me come out of my comfort zone and learn life long skills. I now have a foundation to build on and am eternally grateful to them all.

The Nam Yang Kung Fu Retreat is a place for you to recharge, realign your priorities, connect with yourself, other students and the entire team.

I was spending nearly 3 month at the retreat and it was one of the best experiences I have ever made!
The training scedule is very well organized; a great mix of Kung Fu, Chi Kung, workouts, meditation and weapons.
All of the instructors are very competent and helpful and each of them has a different style of teaching, so it never gets boring. The training is hard, but doable, even if you never did any martial arts before.
Besides the physical aspect you learn a lot about asian history and culture, as well about life in general and about yourself.
And Pai also offers a lot to explore during the free periods: beautiful nature, good food and amazing people!
I highly recommend a stay at Nam Yang to everyone who likes sports or is interested in martial arts.

Can't wait to come back!

I have just spent 4 months at Nam Yang training Kung Fu intensively and living on site.

I can’t express how beautiful Pai is and the retreat sits facing the mountains providing incredible views from the training grounds. I love how peaceful it is here and the place has amazing energy. Night time at the retreat staring at the sky full of stars is one of my favorite past time during my time staying here. Every sunrise during chi gong the sky does incredible things and it’s a breathtaking way to start a day.

The training is incredibly fun!! I have learnt Kung Fu before at various schools and truly I never have enjoyed it this much. There’s a depth to the art that you can learn due to the incredible knowledge the instructors and Master Iain possess. They are very experienced teachers and accommodate to your level and learning styles. The people at the school are one big Kung Fu family and by coming here you become apart of that. They make it incredibly difficult to say goodbye when the time comes.

Every month Master Iain takes us on different excursions around Mae Hong Son and these adventures are one of my favorite part of this whole experience. We go to breathtaking viewpoints, try local food, chasing waterfalls, and so much more.

In the mornings after Chi Gong we have tea time with Master Iain and this gives us the time and space to ask any Kung Fu questions we want. I always learn an incredible amount in these sessions and is easily one of my favorite things about the program.

Traveling during the pandemic has been a little confusing but Master Iain and the Nam Yang team has been very supportive and helpful in advising me in everything that I have needed.

I am already planning my return and can’t wait to be back ☺️

Dear Luisa,

Sincere thanks for your very thoughtful review. :) It is very interesting to know which things different people like the most. Your review really sheds light on this and will help us plan for the future so that we can give our students the best experience possible.

The family element is perhaps what means the most to me and I emphasize it very strongly. I really do think that we are the number one school when it comes to building strong, lifetime friendships/family relationships.

The monthly excursions are relatively new (we just started in 2021) but are here to stay: they are superb team-building exercises.

The speed of your progress impressed us all here. Having done Kung Fu before obviously helped but your personal motivation and dedication were the biggest ingredients.

We are very much looking forward to your return and in you we know that we have a family member for life Luisa, Iain.

I arrived at Nam Yang as one of the first persons to travel under the Sandbox scheme. Though the chaotic times, the staff at the school stayed in contact with constant updates and assistance. It was a blessing to have the support and help navigating travel in a country I had never been to before.
My time at the school was something that I will never forget. Between the staff, fellow students, and instructors I couldn't have asked for more. Master Iain has established an environment that brings every one together as a family. Gaining a true understanding of what Kung-Fu means for both mind, body, and spirit is the basic foundation started from day1. I came with the intention to learn martial arts movements, but I left with an understanding of what it means to master ones self.
This has been the start to a very long journey for me. I am currently arranging my continued education with Nam Yang. With the intention to contribute to the family as an instructor in the near future.

Dear MarKus,

Sincere thanks for your very positive review.

Needless to say it is in our interests to help all those who want to train here to overcome any travel difficulties. Luckily travel has become much more easy recently.

Teaching the real art of Kung Fu with its history, traditions, philosophy, culture and ethos is our mission. Kung Fu begins with fighting movements but soon draws in the mind and the spirit to become a holistic practise which draws the best out of a person. Mastering one's self is the hardest thing to do but also the most worthy. You will be very welcome to join us as a teacher and help us in the pursuit of our mission to use Kung Fu to benefit as many people as we possibly can MarKus, Iain.

I spent there 2 weeks and it was a fantastic time. Up to 7h Kung Fu, Chi Kung and stretching every day really bring your body into shape. The place is surrounded by beautiful nature, awesome flowers and homegrown tropical fruits. Their food is mostly homegrown and very wholesome and nourishing. Their goal is to feed the body and reduce inflammation. I know only few places that awesome.

Dear Christoph,

Firstly, my apologies for such a late response - Trip Advisor no longer seems to be emailing me when we receive reviews. I have only just noticed quite a number of them to which I had not responded!

Having said that, very many thanks for your kind and positive words. We do try very hard to give a balanced experience with exercise, good food, good air, a beautiful environment, etc. I am very glad that we were able to meet your expectations.

You are very welcome back should you return to Thailand. In the meantime, I wish you health, happiness and success with all that you are doing Christoph, Iain.
