We only needed accommodation in Pai for two nights while we explored the region, and to be honest, our requirements were pretty simple: a bed, breakfast, a pool, and air-con. This place provided all that and then some, for a measly $17AUD a night for two! How is it even possible to complain about that? The pool is enormous and offers amazing views over the valley, but looks like it is used by locals as well as guests of the 'resort'. The rooms are nothing particularly special, but again, for the price, we weren't expecting 5 star. The bed was comfortable, the room was wonderfully cool, the towels were good, there is hot water in the showers, and there's even a mini-fridge. Breakfast is served by the pool, and was plentiful. To be fair, it is geared more towards the Thai diet (those that have stayed in "Westernised" hotels are probably more used to bacon and eggs, etc.), but I see nothing wrong in embracing the food of the country I'm staying in (I mean what's the point of being on holiday otherwise?). Pai is a small rural town in a fairly remote area of northern Thailand, and the predominantly Thai food, and poorer English skills I think are to be expected given these circumstances - nothing an open mind, and a good 2-way phrase book can't fix :)
The resort is on the outskirts of town, and those without private transport will find themselves facing a fair walk into the city centre (but how did you get here in the first place one wonders?). Hiring a car (or heaven forbid, a motorbike) is cheap, and means you can more easily explore the surrounding villages, waterfalls, and hot springs.
For the price I would definitely stay here again, and could easily recommend it to others provided your needs aren't particularly demanding.

Hotel style cottages not very clean and far from the center of Pai (20 minutesx walk). Staff did not speak other language than thai and not really helpful. Very large pool. Breakfast very very bad for occidentals people. We will never return at this hotel !
