Great but service attitude could improve

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 13, 2011
I agree with most reviews that this is a great little boutique in a central Pai location, and that the rooms are both charming and very clean.

I was just slightly put off that we paid the extra money to stay in an upmarket venue in Pai rather than the normal (and very cheap) guesthouses, and got some attitude at the point of check in.

When we checked in, we were the ONLY guests staying at the hotel. This was actually confirmed by the receptionist. We had asked then to be moved to a room with a riverview, and were told that the 'upgrade' would cost an additional 50% charge. We asked if there was anyway that (as the only guests in the hotel) we could have the riverview room for free. The receptionist's attitude had already become unpleasant, and then her response to that request was "are you crazy?"

I'm not crazy, but as a frequent traveler, I will always ask the question. And accept a reasonable answer with a smile. To me, this staff was just unpleasant and rude, and spoiled our stay in an otherwise great hotel.

This hotel is a real little gem in beautiful Pai. Myself and 2 firneds stayed for 3 nights in July. The hotel put an extra bed in our room making it a very reasonable stay. Rooms big enough and very clean - they have lots of stylish and quirky details that made them feel very traditional as well as modern. The attached cafe where breakfast is served is a great place for people watching and the staff are very friendly. Food is delicious (beans on toast for breakfast!) and you can have breakfast any time of day up to 5.30 which suited us!

The hotel is excellently situated next to the river and at a crossroads of the town so very easy access to other shops and restaurants - I recommend the Buan Pai 'steakhouse' across the road for dinner - very cheap and delicious.

We were booked in somewhere else and they lost our reservation, so we just walked in to this place and hoped that they had a spare room. It ended up being one of the best things that ever happened!

We had a lovely time - the staff were so very nice and helpful - and it was one of the best getaways we'd ever had. The room was clean and beautifully decorated, as was the rest of the hotel. The location is good - just a short stroll to many attractions. After staying here, I can't believe that they aren't booked out all year round! We'll definitely be back!!

After I try to find many hotels in Pai in this raining season, this hotel is the best one. I move from another with early c/o because this hotel is very lovely with chic style and we got only 2 days in Pai. They prepare full of facilities there, but no safety box, and also there is a hot pond at the terrace by Pai river where you can chill out there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Normally the breakfast will be started at 08.00 hrs. but our bus will leave at 08.00 Hrs., then we request early and they serve our breakfast on time. You can choose the a la carte breakfast from 10 menues, it's interested, even if, it's not buffet. Before we went there for inspection, we went to "Pai River Corner" which note on there sign for "Luxury" but after all I thought "Hotel des Artist" which is opposite there is better, more facilities in room, more convenience, les price. Moreover, there is no swimming pool at Hotel des Artist.

For those travelers looking for a refined and elegant, but simple, place to stay while in Pai, you've found it here. This is a relatively small boutique hotel, which has been converted from a old teak house on the bank of the river and is a tranquil oasis from the busy and crowded streets of the town. The floors and all the wood in the house/hotel are polished to a shiny rich dark patina that is a pleasure to observe and to walk on with bare feet.
The basic rooms (expensive @ approx. $80+/night) are smaller, but completely adequate and cozy. I recommend the second floor with "jungle" views in the rear. The bathrooms are pure luxury, the furniture and all the fixtures are beautifully appointed, first quality and maintained well.
The deck in the rear of the hotel, overlooking the lazy river is a pleasant place to sit in the evening at the end of the day, absorbing the tranquility and beauty of the location. There is a special "hot pool" for soaking your feet. What a delightful simple treat!
The staff is friendly, always available and willing to accommodate your every need.
The cafe restaurant in the front of the hotel, looking out on the street, serves very tasty and well-prepared lite snacks and offers a full menu as well. Everything we ate there was delicious.
My wife and I had been traveling around Thailand for over a month when we arrived. The Hotel des Artists was like arriving at a mini-paradise. While not the most expensive, It was the most enjoyable and peaceful place we stayed.

Room tip: Second floor, jungle view. Back rooms, river view

Great little hotel with lots of charm and style. Proprietor was delightful and accommodating. Rooms were clean, creatively decorated. The bathrooms had the best showers.

Room tip: Pick the garden side to avoid passersby
