“Tranquil getaway from Chiang Mai”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

3 hours away from Chiang Mai on a comfortable and inexpensive minivan ride, is the tiny town of Pai. The town center itself is backpacker central, with lots of eateries, souvenir stalls, tour agencies - worth visiting for an hour or 2 each day, but what a lovely escape to get to Bueng Pai Farm, away from it all, in the middle of rice fields, and surrounded by the mountains. It has a few lovely thatched pavilions with hammocks and cushions, skirting the pond - a great place to spend a lazy day with a book. The farm is about 2-3 kms from the town, so best to hire a bike (they are not of great quality, but will be adequate) for getting around.

Panoramic views of the hotel grounds and neighbouring rice field:

Room Tip: My room had a view of the rice fields and temple next door, but I think I would have liked one that...

We had a wonderful 3 nights stay in Bueng Pai Farm in early 2013. Our bungalow #3 was right by the lake, with hammock and chairs to chill out and enjoy the peacefull landscape.

Enjoyed to watch the sunrise from my balcony with my complimentary tea and banana. :)

Breakfast was awesome too : both my boyfriend and I had a crush for the museli and homemade green yogurt !

It's a bit far from the city but the place is really worth it ! Owners are nice, landscape is breathtaking, our room was clean and quiet.

The hotsprings and the canyon are not that far ; we made it by bicycle so we could enjoy the road. Downtown Pai is about 25 minutes walk if you take the shortcut road behind the farm (which as also a super view on the mountains).

Extra tip : Try to catch Run feeding the fishes.

You cant go wrong with Bueng Pai farm. The owners, Run and Orn really take pride in running it and you can feel their warmth immediately when you enter the farm. It was a nice hideaway from a hideaway town and youre almost off the grid. You'll need a motorcycle to get around. I stayed at Bungalow 4 and it's really nice if you like to fish as it has a porch that overlooks the lake.

You have to try the muesli and yoghurt prepared by Orn in the morning. It's really unforgettable and i still dream about it to this day.

We stayed here for 6 nights, and as all the other reviews say, this place is fantastic. It is out of the town center, but it wasn't ever a problem. We did bicycles the first 2 days, and then rented a scooter the rest of the time to see the places farther away. Quiet, lovely views, hammocks, lovely hand-painted mural on the wall in our room (We stayed in bungalow 3). It was nice that they had a "virtual tour" of each room on their website (or just look it up on youtube), so we could see the place before calling to reserve. Everyone raves about the muesli (which was good!), but the rice soup was my favorite on their menu. We didn't fish, but I can imagine it being extremely relaxing. One could potentially stay there all day, and not run out of things to do. It was nice that they had a library as well. The owners are really nice and friendly. We are both quiet people, my boyfriend and I, so we didn't really interact with them (or any of the other guests), but the impression that I got was that they are very warm and welcoming. The pool was awesome -- though I don't know how to swim :P It was nice to wade in after a day of trekking. Save on money by using their communal kitchen. You buy your own stuff and condiments (spices etc), but it is well worth it. It didn't seem like a lot of guests took advantage of it, but it was at the very beginning of peak season, so it may pick up. It would be lovely to stay here again. We didn't do any package tours, but it's easy enough to get places on your own to sight see.

This place is a little piece of paradise! We loved it here, stayed 5 nights. The owners are sweet people who have put their heart and soul into this retreat space. Its about 2.5 km from the town center so if you are looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful countryside setting, this is it! That also means you will need a bike or scooter to get back and forth, especially since they only serve (amazing, home cooked, fresh, organic) breakfast here, but its a short trip, 5-10 mins by scooter and 10-15 by bicycle which is how we got around most days and we found the fresh air and the ride quite pleasant. Would be great if they offered bikes at the farm but Run the owner picked us up on arrival and dropped us off on departure so we can't complain :) They also provide plenty of open air lakeside spaces for relaxing, hammocks, library, and there's even a bonfire for those chilly mornings. Oh and wifi is excellent, a bonus!

Guys(or Ladies), if you're looking for a romantic getaway... get yourself to Bueng Pai Farm. My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week and we didn't want to leave. Our balcony was lakeside with a couple of chairs and hammock so we could watch the fish splash around while enjoying a fruit shake (and beer) during the day and the sunset in the evening.
Our bungalow was clean, cozy with fresh linen and hot shower. The nature surrounding Bueng Pai Farm is breathtaking, well planned and maintained. There are fruit trees, tropical plants and flowers everywhere. During the day, we swam in the natural swimming pool and lazed around at the island library (I read and played on the iPad while my girlfriend did yoga)! The internet connection is awesome, unreal, considering you are smack dab in the middle of a rice paddy field. The staff was attentive but not intrusive. Met some great other guests which made the stay even better.

Breakfast is a real treat. Most ingredients are grown on the farm and organic. My biggest decisions were what to eat and drink... so many choices. There is a guest kitchen, if you want to cook your own food. Most people wont care but I am a bit of a health nut so I do.

Finally, if you're into fishing, I saw some guests pull some monster catfish out of the lake. Spectacular.

You won't regret staying here! For the money I highly recommend.

Room Tip: Make sure and rent a bicycle or motorbike in Pai and enjoy a scenic drive around the valley. Also...
