3 hours away from Chiang Mai on a comfortable and inexpensive minivan ride, is the tiny town of Pai. The town center itself is backpacker central, with lots of eateries, souvenir stalls, tour agencies - worth visiting for an hour or 2 each day, but what a lovely escape to get to Bueng Pai Farm, away from it all, in the middle of rice fields, and surrounded by the mountains. It has a few lovely thatched pavilions with hammocks and cushions, skirting the pond - a great place to spend a lazy day with a book. The farm is about 2-3 kms from the town, so best to hire a bike (they are not of great quality, but will be adequate) for getting around.
