“Very nice staff, average room, need some renovation”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

Pros: The staff are very friendly and helpful, I had my pickup on the bus station of Pai on time. and Mr. 'Por' drive me to the GH and guided me to my room. He has very nice personality.

Cons: The Sun Hut is FAR away from the town. If you cannot ride on a motorbike, it will take you 20 minutes to the town on foot. And there is nth around the Sun Hut, if you want a drink or some food, you have to walk. Of cause, it would not be a problem if you can drive a motorbike.
The rooms are old, but in overall clean. the worst thing is that hot water is NOT HOT. It is pretty cold in Pai at night. So I have to take shower at day time. It costs 950 baht for a stream view hut. I think there are better choice there in Pai.

The Sun Hut is a great place to get away from it all! We stayed in a lovely hut with a hammock on the porch that looked over a little stream. Really relaxing and quiet place to stay. The sign said they had a vegetarian restaurant which is part of the reason we chose it but when we got there was no restaurant or any staff the first time we looked around. We came back later and found the man who runs it who turned out to be really nice and helpful.
The Sun Hut is definitely rough round the edges and has seen better days. There is only one person working there as far as we saw in 4 days. There is breakfast but I wouldn't recommend it. There is not really any atmosphere so if you are looking for these things then it is not the right place. We loved it though, it was clean and quiet and so peaceful.

The Sun Hut was a great place to stay! Very laid-back & quiet. The surrounding jungle & stream were beautiful. The hammocks were excellent.

It's a little (15-20 min) walk outside of town, but it's enjoyable & that's where I wanted to be to enjoy some peace & quiet. Besides, cycle/motorbike rental's cheap.

Some reviews have complained about beds not being made for them... daily room cleaning would be unusual for a bungalow operation in Thailand. That said, the bungalows & grounds were clean & overall well-kept (mossie net could be patched up, but not a problem with fan on). The staff were friendly & very helpful.

Stayed at the Sun Hut 2 years ago and looked forward to a return visit. We noticed unwelcome changes. The entrance path is falling to bits and does not provide a favourable first impression; this is reinforced by a sad lack of atmosphere. The simple breakfast of fried egg, toast and tea/coffee took an age to prepare, and there were few choices available from the menu. Somehow it all felt as if the staff were despondent and struggling to cope. As there were only 2 staff visible, maybe it was a great struggle. What a shame as this used to be a charming place. On a positive note, the garden is lovely with a river and stream running past and our rooms were clean on arrival, though there was no further servicing during our 3 night stay - in a place where all toilet paper has to be left in a bin, rather than flushed away, this was not good. Bins were emptied and toilet paper replenished only after asking. Will never return.

The Sun Hut was once a great place, now it has changed. There is no food, and no communication with the staff. There used to be a fireplace where people would sit and talk, that's gone! And gone is "the god old sun hut" . I would not go back.

I loved staying at the Sun Hut in Pai, it was just so beautiful and relaxing. We were originally going to stay 3 nights but we ended up staying 5 nights. The location is just out of town so will need to hire a motorbike to get around but that is half the fun and very cheap to do.

The rooms are amazing with hammocks and books available and a stream running through guesthouse with beautiful Thailand jungle everywhere. The service was amazing and the restruant serves organic vegetarian food (which was good even for a meat eater like me).

I can recommend this place very highly, well worth the money.
