Pan Guesthouse is in a perfect location on the Mekong; right outside the front door is the center of Nong Khai's lovely riverfront promenade with lots of relaxed outdoor and indoor restaurants, and friendly locals strolling the riverfront - lots of Thai tourists seem to make the day trip here from Udon Thani.
Directly behind the guesthouse is the Tha Sadet covered market which is one of the best in Thailand (lots of cheap clothes, silks, jewelry and souvenirs, and it's not a tourist rip-off market - it's mostly Thais shopping there and items actually have price tags, so you pay what the Thais pay.)
Rooms are spacious and clean with very clean bathrooms. Tv and refrigerator in room. A few of the rooms have riverfront views with a small balcony, but these are understandably popular.
Wifi is fast and works all the time, both in the rooms and on the second-floor balcony area with tables and chairs.
Free water, coffee/tea and toast. There's a shop downstairs selling juice, water and beer.
Staff is helpful and genuinely friendly.
Nong Khai is a beautiful town and is definitely worth a few days stay if you're coming to or from Laos, and Pan Guesthouse should be a top choice.More
