If there was one place we would return to in thailand it is this.

But I guess it is not for everyone.

The electricity is on during evening-night. Hot water is not guaranteed, due to leaving the lights on the first night we hade some flying-ants in our room and to get the the main beach for diving, shoping or whatever you more or less have to catch a longtail, there is a path that is easily navigated but it is adventurous. Oh, and you have to be a fan of salamanders (cute lizards), they make up for the evening entertainment if you turn on an outside light to attract flies.

So what is good about it, I don't know to be honest. The service is nice but nothing exceptional. The bay is great not doubt about that but the corals that you can snorkle to are a bit sad (and also long-tails come in regularly so you better watch out). The fish is not bad though, including puffer-fish and a blend of colorful small-ones.

Anyway, this is probably the best experience we have had but it is not for everyone. We have stayed at numerous 5-star hotels around the world but it is just not the same when it is concrete and plaster between you and your choosen destiantion. I can't explain why but the setting is really really nice. It might be that it is not on the commercial beach, it might be the longtails picking you up or it might be that you enjoy life a little bit better when it is not just all cruise and play. Or maybe it is just us....

Oh, and there is a massage-thingy but it was not really open/advertised when we got there so don't go there because of that.

The bad reviews on here show all the flaws this place has to offer. What they've missed out is you can leave Mae Haad and all the madness and enter into the quietest of bays with piercingly bright stars, achingly beautiful sunsets and waters clear enough to be standing amongst brightly coloured fish meters away from the edge. The staff are incredibly friendly and treated us like friends. Banana bar was AWESOME amazingly built and the coolest barman who we hung out, made music and chatted for evenings on end. My boyfriend asked me to marry him looking out at the sunset from the restaurant deck. If you're hardcore enough to cope with hard beds, hot nights and some interaction with nature, you're laughing.

We booked to stay at Sai Thong for 2 nights and I was happy it was only that long. The resort is on a nice looking beach that you an only get to by longtail boat or by trekking through the forest over the hill to Mae Haad.

It took us forever to find Reception and there were some very bad smells coming from around the resort. When we made the booking online we specifically wanted a Seaview Deluxe room as it said it had air-conditioning. The only air conditioning was coming from the old fan above the bed - which only operated a few hours of the night time when the generator was running!!

The room was old and had some dodgy floor boards (not even going to talk about the wooden walkway to the room...) The almost outdoor shower was full of sand and of a night people from the restaurant would be able to see straight in.

Though it did have a nice view out over the beach it was right next to the restaurant which had dogs wandering around and howling for no particular reason constantly. The restaurant itself was way overpriced, as was the Banana Bar next door. The old rope on our hammock gave way the first time we sat on it and the staff said they would fix it later, but never did.

One afternoon we came back to our room and found that the balcony door was unlocked and open - which was certainly NOT the way we had left it. Fortunately we had taken the liberty of locking up our bags when they were in the room so nothing was missing.

Overall I found this hotel inconvienient and overpriced and just not a very pleasant experience at all.

To be honest we actually did not stay here as we thought it was just too horrible.
When we arrived by ferry we passed the beach and it looked lovely. So the next day we decided to move from the main beach to this one.

There was only one bungalow available and when it was show it was exactly as described in other reviews; dark, dingy, damp, smelly, unclean and literally rotten.
When walking towards the bungalow together with the manageress we met a couple who were living there, and they asked the manageress to "please catch the mouse" (!!!!).

I have no idea why this place gets good reviews, it must be from people who are sick and tired of the whole Khao San Rd-Chaweng-Hat Rin mania and thinks this is the best Thailand has to offer. It's not, quite the opposite.

The setting is simply stunning: A private sandy beach enclosed by beautiful rocks, palm trees.... a dream location for a resort. Unfortunately the accomodation is very basic with just a bed in a run-down hut, nothing else in the room (ah, I forgot the disfunct fan). The huts are entirely run-down, gaps in the floors eveywhere, two old and dirty towels provided, bathroom is more like a toliet with a shower. The beds are like sleeping on stones and they dont even wash the linen when a new guest moves in. They run the generator only for a few hours at night, which means the resort does not have any cold drinks during the day as everything in their fridges goes warm. No cold beer possible. The restaurant is lovely though, and the food was good. Just behind the beach there is massive amounts of rubbish, and I dont think anyone will bother cleaning the place up. Not a nice view at all. Overall, this resort is completely run-down, old tired and needs to be completely rebuilt. Not recommended. But it's cheap, no doubt.

We have been back this year at Sai Thong Resort after our stay in 2006 and we found some changes but, all in all, the resort has kept the unique charme.

As two year ago, the owner has just changed. The new owner is a thai, who already owns the Jasom Bay resort, next to the Sai Thong.

The previous Czech owners have made some changes: good news, the electricity now runs from 6pm to 5-6am, allowing the ceiling fan and the new side fan to work and let the guests sleep very well. There are also some bungalows with AC. The mosquito nets have been changed. Bad news, the spa has been reduced and a new concrete bungalow (absolutely over priced) has been built on the rocks, right in front the sea. The bamboo platforms in the bay disappeared: a real pity!

Something to change: the sheets! Please change them with cotton fabric sheets and cotton pillow covers. The traditional pillow covers at the restaurant and on the veranda: use cotton covers please! And give up with Italian food like pizza and spaghetti using the ketchup as tomato: if you want to go on, please use fresh tomatoes.

For the rest, the place is still a paradise. Nice, calm, where you can find various animals (even in your bungalow, but you're almost in the forest!) and eat good thai and burma food.

A great place to stay, where noise and ill-mannered are not welcome: so if you are looking for nighlife or luxury, or screaming along the beach please go elsewhere. Sai Thong is a basic resort, with a good restaurant, a fantastic garden full of frogs in the night, big gekoes, squirrels, little rats, iguanas, black and yellow lizards and two gentle dogs (especially the sweet red haired one, we called her Anna: she would appreciate if you buy at the animal clinic at Mae Haad some antifleas for her and her friend...). In the sea, pay attention and you may find little octopusses, crabs and so on.

We have also made some good diving with "Dive Point": you can find them in Mae Haad or ask the reception at Sai Thong, they have their book there. Walter and Mirjana are very kind and their organization is efficient and well equipped. And if you want to learn diving ask for Mooi, the dive master that prepared me for my first dive! He's great!

And for a beer at the sunset go to the Banana Rock bar, right after the Sai Thong, the relaxing place ever with the most chilled Singha beers in the world!

We spent 5 blissfull days at Sai Tong resort in november. Ideal place if you just want to sleep, read and relax. Very secluded, only accessible by taxi boat - so you feel very removed from the tourist scene. we stayed in the "beachfront" bungalow.
Bungalow basic - double bed with mosquito net, toilet with handheld shower and basin. No hot water, toilet has to be flushed manuallywith bucket and water, and electricity only at night.
Nice porch with hammock. Great beach with amazing water and sealife.
resort has its own restaurant - only drawback is that the menu is extremely limited, and prices nearly double than at the villlages. Restaurant walks out on small area of beach with amazing views. The food was generally very tasty.
There was no "housekeeping", so linen wasn't changed in the 5 days and bungalow not cleaned.
Linen itself wasn't of good quality -mosquito net had tears in. pillows very uncomfortable and bedlinnen also torn at one end.
The spa was also closed while we were there, which was quite dissapointing as we looked forward to massages. We were told that it only opens up during peak season.
All in all, we enjoyed it very much - we liked the quietness and seclusion. The staff were friendly although only 2 could speak english.
