We have stayed here 3 or 4 times and always go back whenever we are on Tao. it's priocier than alot of the other bungalows on sairee, but you get waht you pay for!
Lovely room, with frige, aircon, balcony and TV and daily cleaning service.
I did my Open Water here years ago, and the same instructors are still around. The bar/restaurant overlooks the beach and is cheap, with excellent veiws of the amazing Tao sunsets over the ocean. Also good for partying in the evening.
If you ahve had enough of time beach huts with a piddly fan, treat yourself to a stay at bans. it;s lovely, but alwys view the rooom first as they vary in size and luxury. Also, if you arrive by boat they aklways have someone in a Bans shirt waiting to take you to the hotel for a very small charge.

Most places on Koh Tao are diving hotels - meaning that sometimes the pool is occupied by divers. (this resort has 2 pools solving that problem!) We checked in here after paying for a room at the Asia diving resort, where we checked in and straight out! (No AC or Fridge!)

This hotel was one of our favourites.

If you're doing a diving course, they offer bargin basement accomodation prices, but stick you at the top of a hill in cheap rooms.

We'd didn't dive with them and just booked a room, I think standard deluxe... It came with fridge, AC, DVD player, mini bar etc. We were surrounded by trees and plants with paths and oriental bridges / gardens throughout. The place was also just next to the beach. We couldn't find fault with this place and will def. stay here again.

we(myself, partner both 20's and our 9 yr old son) decided to stay here as a treat at the end of our 5 weeks in thailand because it had a pool, tv etc. we didn't book but managed to get a deluxe room for 2800baht pn (most expensive place we stayed). we booked 4 nights and were told to pay for 2 upfront and then day by day. the room was ok, had a tv, dvd player ( which made our boys day) nice balcony 2 singles and a matress on the floor.
firstly the pool is full of divers all day and has a total of 4 sunbeds! we used it a few times but you spend your time trying to avoid divers it's really not worth it.
very noisey at night but everywhere on sairee is so we expected this. building noise going on from 7 am until 7pm everyday!

our real problems started when after the 2 nights i went to reception about 9am to pay for the next 2 nights. i was told that our room had been booked by someone else and we would have to move to a more expensive (3800bht) room if we wanted to stay. i explained what i had been told when i checked in and after much huffing, shouting and dirty looks i was told i could keep the room!
to top it off we had been waking up with awful bites but i didn't think anything of it until that night i noticed something crawling on my sheet. when i pulled back the sheet there were more bedbugs! i never slept that night and so saw witnessed them coming out from every crevice to feast on us! we stayed in some really cheap places in thailand but never had we had bedbugs.
needless to say we left after this.

i know this looks like the best place on sairee but looks can be decieving! ko tao used to be my favourite place in thailand but after this year i don't feel the same. for whatever reason the people here(especially women) just aren't friendly. i know their sick of tourists but i don't think thats the problem as everywhere else we went we met very friendly thai's. i think they need to realise that they're biggest income is from tourism because if they don't brush up on their customer service people won't go their. i spoke to many people who said ko tao was the most unfriendly place they'd been in thailand, it's such a shame as it a beautiful island.

Yuck! We booked a seaview suite. Although the room was pretty. it certainly was not a suite. The only view was a construction site less than 10meters away where power tools were used constantly between the hours of 7am and 7pm producing concrete dust as well a loud noises. The rate was about $140 USD but there is a discount if you dive. Of course the day we reigistered there was no room on the dive boat since 52 people had already signed up. At least we didn't have bedbugs, a couple we spoke with at the pool complained their room was infested. We checked out after one night.

  • Liked — it was close enough to walk to other facilities to search for other accomodations
  • Disliked — the attitude of the staff

Ban's is a great place to dive and stay in Koh Tao - superior to other hotels there. The diving is one of the best on the island. Great place to learn. Coming back to a clean room in a tropical resort locale is ideal. Location is good.

Neil is the best instructor for diving! Amazing, safe, and thorough. Two pools, ample options to keep you busy. The restaurant service is slow and rude (but there are many other options within walking distance). Hotel service is gracious and accommodating. The hotel is very good, terrific value. Considering other options on the island, this is one of the very best!

My girlfriend and I have just finished a dive course at Ban's. We had a great time but I can understand some of the reviews about big courses. We arrived just after the full moon and it was really busy but a friend of ours told us that you don't actually have to go in a big group. All you have to do is ask for a personal instructor. It's all the same price (9800B). We had an English guy called Guy (!!!) and he was great. There was no rushing around and everything was done at our pace.

As we were leaving the pool after our first session, a group of 12 were just starting. They were some of the people who we had seen in the reception when we arrived.

The diving was fantastic and our instructor was always happy and supportive - even at 7.30 in the morning. My girlfriend had some problems equalising but again because there were only 2 of us there was no hurry. We had made plans to do our open water then move on to Phi Phi but we stayed to do our Advanced course and our instructor stayed with us throughout. Really great and we saw SHARKS!!!!!! awesome.

The facilities at Bans were great. They've got 2 pools so you don't have to swim around divers and they had some great parties at their bar. The accomm was included and was away from all the noise. The food was very good as well even tho it took a while to arrive most of the time.

Would highly recommend.

I would like to start on a positive, the accommodation is set out very well.
Thats the positive done with lets now focus on the bans "DIVING" experience. As an experienced diver going along with my family on their padi open water course, i would have expected this to have been an enjoyable experience.
Well used to getting up early to catch the morning boat with other resorts, this was not an issue- waiting nearly 2 hours in the mornings whilst bans circus of staff/apes/instructors sat around looking at bags of dive gear, regulators etc as if they were a university challenge complexed physics question, scratching their heads, this was the first issue.
once on the boat- the dive briefing.
How the beaches are made!
Why alcohol is poison and soft drugs are not!
How eating pasta makes a healthy body like the 'instructor'!
Alarm bells started ringing in my head- Have my family learned enough to safely dive? what kind of dive school is this? To the point- its not its a FACTORY. "give us your money and we'll 'certify' you".
Having had the instructor lecture nazi style in front of the whole boat (family included) on a minuscule extra kilo of weight i had on (due to a new wet suit and 55meter deco dive done the previous day) really put the icing on the factory made cake.
In conclusion if you actually want to learn to dive, have a better community and service there are a number of schools further north on the beach that supercede the quality of bans resort.
The bar and restaurant are a joke also.
