“Worthy the money”

I hard to say "perfect" to anything, but this hotel room is perfect! I have been Thailand for many times, I can never expect a room without insect in this tropical island! You can continue to imagine how clean about other equipments in the room! Of cause the price is “ perfect” level too…

Only thing is this hotel is hard reachable, so we made a reservation for only 3 days, which I think it’s smart to move to a more convenient location for some social activities. If you look for a quiet vacation, then here is best!

This is probably the best resort in Koh Tao, not many luxury resorts here to begin with....

The resort is very isolated so as other members already has said, dont stay here if you want that Koh Tao party, lazy, diving feel.... Stay at Jamakiri if you want to get away and totally relax in beautiful surroundings with fantastic views. The way to the resort is via a very steeep and treacherous road... so once you're there you dont really want to leave.. luckely the resort is a great place to relax at...

You are greeted by the staff with a welcome drink that tasted fantastic and I had the make for me again and again during my stay... once checked in you can start your relaxation ...

The resort is build on a semi steep rocky hill so there is a lot of stairs but shouldnt be a big problem for most people...

The rooms are very comfortable standardish, but clean and nice.. The resort have a library with books and dvds you can borrow for your entertainment... and the views from all over the resort is outstanding!

The pool area is not very big but it really dosnt matter and the setup is very beautiful!

The spa treatments are good and decent priced (yes you can get them a lot cheaper in a spa/massageparlour on the street - but not in these surroundings...) I got a 3 hour package one day with different treatments and it was overall nice and didnt feel ripped off at all...

The restaurant had some very good thai dishes! I remember the panang-curry in particular as great and again the view!

Koh Tao is famous in Thailand for being divers paradise and rigthly so.... Jamahkiri also offers diving from its own little dock and here is the only downside to the resort... The prices are something like 3 times the price of other diving companies at Koh Tao and that is ridiculous!! Really a big downside and a think it would be a big improvement if they had prices more in par with the competition ... its not stopping me giving them 5 stars but I remember how ridiculous I thought this was...

Anyways all in all I would def. return to Jamahkiri...

This is a truly beautiful resort in terms of architecture and location. Hotel grounds are absolutely stunning, spacious and pleasant. Yes, there are lots of stairs, but the steps are built at a comfortable height. Road to hotel is definitely treacherous, but this didn't bother us either, since driver was very careful. The bad road keeps loads of tourists away from the beach by the hotel, so we saw it as an advantage. The beach, only maybe 200 meters away by sea, is accessible by kayak or a little taxi boat the hotel offers. It is also possible to kayak to other nearby bays for snorkeling.
We had a wonderful time, except for a few humps and bumps. When arriving at the pier, we were directed to a little spa nearby to wait for our transportation. There were only 2 men to help carry luggage for 2 families with small kids (including us) and 1 couple. Therefore, we didn't get much help. At the spa, no one explained to us what would happen next. We just saw our luggage being loaded onto a high pile at the back of a pickup truck that soon took off. We complained that the luggage would for sure fall off at the dirt road and that it should be transported with us. The pickup returned and, wisely, our luggage was loaded into the truck we rode to the hotel. When we finally arrived to our room, we saw there was no extra bed for our 5-year old, though during booking we had specified that we were asking for a larger room so that it could fit an extra bed for our child. The young man who received us readily replied that an extra bed would cost us more. After the long trip, I was very upset with the lack of tact and unfriendly, even rude, reception. The reception ended up providing us with a thin mattress on the floor. I'd say that Jamahkiri needs to better train its reception employees. I can see how reception can go well when there are no problems, but they definitely do not know how to handle unforeseen surprises smoothly and politely.
From settling on, our stay was very enjoyable. Food at the restaurant was very good, but I agree with other reviewers that it was way over-priced for Thailand. By international standards, I'd say price for meals was acceptable (up to 900 bht or 30 USD per dish), but it adds up if you are eating 2 meals a day at the hotel. A family of 3 can easily spend between 100 to 150 USD per meal depending on whether you ask for desserts or not. The food was good, but not extraordinary. The hotel we had stayed at for 2 nights in Koh Samui offered much better food for a lower price. In fact, Jamahikiri does not have their French chef anymore, so the menu is just a repetition of what the chef had set up before leaving. If a request for a change is made, it becomes quite complicated to communicate it and we thought the kitchen lacks the creativeness of a good chef.
There are 2 points that I’d like to make and that I feel Jamahkiri could improve instantly:
1. The best part of the restaurant with the best view (upper part) is reserved to the smokers. We were having our dinner with our little one and a couple lighted cigarettes just beside us. When we complained about it, we were asked to move to the lower part of the restaurant! Not to mention that right at the entrance of the restaurant there is a non-smoking sign and also that even at the lower part, we could still smell the cigarette smoke. In addition, the hotel room has a sign of “smoke-free resort"! The sign asks not to smoke inside of buildings and only at designated areas (which contradicts itself in being a smoke-free resort). I could not find such designated areas. The managers often smoked as well, so I guess they are conveniently disregarding the rules set by the hotel owner. Please refer to photos.
2. The room balconies are very dangerous for small kids because the metal barrier has “holes” for a child to easily slip through and fall all the way down the cliff below. I never let my child go to the balcony on her own while in the room. Please see photos.
Overall, Jamahkiri was a pleasant experience because in paradise one always gets to relax and the hotel grounds are marvelous, but I found the reception rude and management at times clearly insincere in their politeness. Staff at the restaurant and around hotel was usually friendly and kind, except the men at the pier area who were not much approachable. I’d say we left the hotel with very mixed feelings and I will be tempted to check out other options. In our opinion, a good hotel is one that absolutely makes us want to go back. After all, there are many beautiful and excellent hotels all over Thailand! Why bother?

Room Tip: We heard from other tourists that one can hear noises from room to room in the new building. I'...

If you are looking to be in the party circuit, in the midst of the dive scene, lazy and unfit - or even single and wanting to meet other singles - this may not be the resort for you. If however you fit into any other catagory, and you want to relax and enjoy some unsurpassed beauty with great service... get here now!!!

We found our way to this oasis on a dodgy motor bike that came with another property we had booked above Sairee Beach and we ventured towards Jamahkiri because we were not happy where we were and we had read about it on Trip Advisor. Yes the road to and from the place is crazy - and we did it on a small motor bike! But when you get there it is worth the trip in every way. For us the service started with the realisation that the bike we had rented had no fuel and at reception they phoned to their driver (who was transporting other guests) to pick up a bottle of petrol (2 actually) and bring them to us while we relaxed by the pool. They brought us glasses of ice water and cool clothes (we were both pretty hot and dirty by then) and showed us a room. As soon as we walked down the stairs and saw the views we were sold. We checked in immediately despite already having paid for the other place for another 2 nights. We never regretted it. The food was awesome, the service perfect, the drinks magic, the snorkelling right off the small private beach great - even sharks if you go before 9:30am. You can rent a kayak and paddle around to other coves or the beach next door and the swimming pool is also awesome. DId I say I LOVED this place?

Everyone comments here on the manager - well he certainly was very professional and good at going around and checking on all of the guests BUT the real stars in our eyes were the staff that worked at reception, at the bar, in the dining room, at the dive shop, and all those that stopped and greeted us every time we passed by. A special thank you to Pure and Bee - the two fun/professionals that worked reception... you add so much to the place!

We love this place so much we will be back - want to hire out the private outdoor function space!!! PS - we travelled at a low season and had this place to ourselves. Go in September!!

Room Tip: Any room will have a magic view. Go the newer sections if you are very fussy

My wife and I have just returned to UK after staying at this hotel as part of an island hopping holiday in Thailand. Without doubt this was our favorite place in terms of location, service and quality. The only minor gripe I have is the restaurant prices but you can get the free shuttle into town and a taxi back and this will save you money, however we ate there everynight as the food was very tasty and if you are paying a lot for the hotel then naturally the food will be more expensive too so can't really moan.
We had originally planned to stay for 3 nights but we ended up staying for 5 as we liked it so much. We would have stayed even longer had we not had jobs to come home to!
Everything about this hotel is great; The rooms are spacious with good quality soaps etc. Plenty of towels. Free tea/coffee. Free DVD rentals and free wifi throughout hotel. The view from the balcony is unforgettable. 100% sea view. In fact almost all you can see is the beautiful sea! We saw small reef sharks from our balcony early in the morning.
The restaurant and bar area are the most beautiful place I have ever eaten breakfast. The view is breathtaking. The quality of the breakfast is top notch too. The scrambled eggs are amazing. The mango and papaya so fresh you will not want to stop eating!!
Last but not least are the staff. From the manager (William) who personally greeted us upon arrival - the only other place I have had this is Banyan Tree Maldives - through to all the bar staff, the waiters and waitresses and the room maids. They are all so friendly, smiley and welcoming.
William takes time to speak to all the guests regularly and nothing is too much trouble.
We can not wait to go back next year!

We had a fantastic honeymoon at Jamahkiri. We stayed at the hotel for two weeks during July / August. We normally choose to go on activity holidays, however for our honeymoon we decided to find somewhere we could relax and Jamahkiri was the perfect place.

The room was spacious and very clean. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic – great Thai and European meals available.

We spent our days snorkelling, sitting by the pool and enjoyed an afternoon at the Spa. We snorkelled at different times throughout the day and were able to see sharks, beautiful fish and swim alongside a sea turtle.

There are a lot of steps, but what do you expect if you stay at a hotel that was built on the cliff edge! The views were spectacular.

As other reviews have mentioned, the hotel is isolated and in a quiet part of the island, but for us that is what we really liked and it wouldn’t have been the same relaxing and peaceful experience if it was any different.

I would definitely recommend the hotel to friends and if we venture back to Thailand, would definitely enjoy going back.
