Review of Aow Leuk Bay

Reviewed February 27, 2014

The most amazing views as you approach, the beach is only small but not many there, fantastic restaurant up high built into the rocks. Classic turquoise sea a paradise all of its own, good area to snorkel and dive, you can see black tipped sharks, and turtles.

Take a few steps into the water and look down; you are already surrounded by fish. As my husband commented 'its like swimming in an aquarium'. The fish are amazing, plentiful and everywhere.

The beach itself is reasonably easy to get to; it would be a hot walk but you could carefully get there by scooter or one of the many taxis. In terms of quality, the beach was a mixture of coarse sand and soft sand. I'm not sure if this was a sign of the time of year, but there are softer beaches around the island. There is some shade, for those of us who are fair skinned and burn easily.

When we were there, one of the the cafes was open. Great place to chill and sip a coffee or eat. The prices were reasonable (and included using their bathrooms!).

This is an easily accessible beach about 2-3 Km from the ferry pier. The bay is very secluded and sheltered. It is not as shallow as Sairee beach but it is still friendly for poor swimmers like me. Two outstanding features: this is easily the best snorkeling experience I have ever had. Loads of colourful and varied fish within a few meters of the beach. You literally don't have to swim out to see them. The second is the friendly and comfortable cafe/restaurant on the beach. The prices are terrifically cheap and the food wonderfully fresh. Excellent coffee!

Beach was ok not the best on the island, ensure you read the sign before you go on the beach as you must be left by 5pm as it a private beach. You also have to pay for the toilet if you dont use the restaurant to eat or drink, its only 20 baht!

Try the cafe on the far end to your left (cant remember the name), they do an amazing chicken with garlic and pepper dish.

We went here with big blue diving, to do some train dives, and the site is very beautiful and full of sea life.
