The location is amazing, 5 mins walk to the pier. There are many shops and restaurants around, and one can reach to everywhere easily. The guesthouse is very clean, no shoes in allowed in rooms, and there are towel carpets everywhere.

The rooms are all in great locations, right at the whole second floor above the Nemo guesthouse lobby, we can reach the owner family in 30 seconds. Rooms are quiet and hide in shade, so no worries about the heat. We booked the deluxe room in a great cost performance, much lower than other fancy hotels, but still everything we need: large bath room(really large, actually two rooms that forms a bathroom, so one can really relaxed when back from a whole day outdoor activities), a TV and DVD ahead of our bed, a very large wardrobe which allow us put many close that we bought in Thailand. There are lovely refrigerator, but we have no chance to use it as the food usually we finished them within the restaurant. oh, BTW, 20 meters away from Memo guesthouse(in the same street and same side), there is a restaurant called Baan Tai, small but testes great!

One more thing I must write in detail, the owners, the family (Philippe, Som and Ploy) are the most helpful and friendly staff I ever met. I booked their room in Jan. 2012 by only a few emails, and they didn't take any deposit from me. When we arrived at the guesthouse, the owner, Philippe gave us two cup of fresh orange juice made by themselves, and introduced his family members to me, making us feel so warm, a family atmosphere. And second day the mom of the family, Som (very helpful and professional travel agent), helped us book our first fishing trip, and the luckiest one! The day when we went fishing, we got a 33-Kg Sailfish!! And later we realized that, the caption of the boat is the most skilled one, therefore, we really believed that, if Som didn't book his boat for us, we may not be so lucky. Som also recommended another cost-effectiveness Thai message store for us, helped us relieve our pain after fishing.

Actually before moving to nemo guesthouse, we were learning diving at Crystal Diving Resort; compared with the cold water and bugs in Crystal (which may make people concentrate more on diving itself but not on life quality), memo guest house is a paradise....

Nemo guesthouse may be the cheapest guesthouse on Mae Head Beach of Koh Tao, but the rooms are great, nice bathroom, very confortable beds, with safe. If you want to save money, meanwhile maintain the residential quality, nemo guesthouse is what you are looking for.
The helpful staff will help you save money by giving you discount with every outdoor activity and meanwhile they help to choose the best activity organizers.

Room Tip: I recommend the deluxe room. Very appropriated decorated, simple and lovely, clean and shining, lar...

I really enjoyed my stay at Captain Nemo guesthouse. From the first email exchange looking for availability, Phillipe, Som and Ploy were very friendly and accommodating. I stayed at the guesthouse for 19 nights. The rooms were cleaned regularly and it was super quiet at night.

As a solo traveler it was really nice to be taken so good care of, so I have to say:
Thank you Som for showing me around Mae Haad and giving me a special soap and aloe vera when I got sunburned, your´re a sweetheart!

We got to know the owner Som and her family after we have lost our wallet during a scooter trip. As we had all our cards and money in the wallet we were searching along the road, with great eager finding it.. Just at the moment when giving up searching, an angle (Som) asked us what were we searching for (she was sitting at the center waiting for her arriving guests, next to 7eleven).. When we told her that we have lost our wallet, she suddenly showed the wallet :)) But before she would return it we had to write down our names, so she could check if we were the true owners.... Ohhhh, we were relieved!

She didn't except any payment/reward (!) as we were soo thankful. The least we could do was visiting Captain Nemo, that's how we got to know it. Getting to know them really gave a special turn into our holidays. It's great to see that there are still honest people that choose to live there life like this, and looking forward helping people...

Thanks again for this great gesture and looking forward seeing you again!

Warmest regards, Robert & Maja

After the craziness of Bangkok, it was such a treat to arrive at Captain Nemo's. Good local advice is hard to come by in Thailand - everyone seems to have an angle or be on the payroll of some dodgy 'Tourist agency', but at this charming guest house we found the owner Som (and her husband Philipe and daughter Poi) to be honest, impartial and incredibly helpful.

We booked a day's snorkelling boat trip with Som (at a slight discount to the going rate we have seen advertised elsewhere), and bless her, she furnished us not only with (pretty cool) hats to keep the sun at bay, but also suncream! It was like having a local mum on hand to look after us. When we left for our next place (after only staying with her for 1 night), she insisted we keep the hats and wouldn't take a single baht for them.

The only reason we moved is because we were staying in the presidential suite, which was reasonably priced for the luxuriousness of the room, but outside our backpacker's budget, and we were intending to stay on Koh Tao at least a fortnight. Som even helped us find new accommodation!

The pool hall, which they open in the evening, is beautifully decorated and with immaculate, full-sized American pool tables. Well worth an evening enjoying happy hour cocktails and a few frames.

I would urge you, whatever your plans on Koh Tao, to stay at least one night at Captain Nemo's while you orientate yourself and figure out where you would like to stay for the rest of you trip. You will be well looked after, and can rest assured you will receive honest advice about the do's and don'ts of Koh Tao.

And use Som's 'travel agency' to book your tickets anywhere - the prices were all favourable compared to anywhere else we encountered on the island.

We spent some nights in captain nemo in december, first of all, we have to say that we loved koh tao! Much nicer than samui...captain nemo is a nice b&b not far from the ferry pier, the owners philippe, som and ploy are very friendly and helpful and have a lot of good advice about the island. The rooms are basic but clean and you can borrow a lot of dvds to watch in there. Some beaches are in walking distance and you are admidst the "city" with restaurants etc. Across the street you can eat excellent pizza for example. If you're looking for a nice and quiet place away from the hustle and bustle choose nemo! And one final advice: be prepared for the hard to bear catamaran ride to the island, at least in winter, 90 percent of the folks on our boat were seasick. I recommend thai seasickness pills and chewing fresh ginger ;)

I really enjoyed my stay at Captain Nemo guesthouse. From the first email exchange looking for availability, Phillipe, Som and Ploy were very friendly and accommodating.

We stayed at the guesthouse for 11 nights. The rooms were cleaned regularly and it was super quiet at night (a huge boon compared to some places on Koh Tao and Koh Phangan which sound like you're sleeping inside a club)

The location of Captain Nemo in Mae Haad is pretty convenient in terms of being close to banks, shops restaurants and cafes. However, if you're looking to party you'll find yourself walking to Sairee Beach a lot which is a significant 15-20min walk. (Or you can be lazy and catch a cab for about 50bht)

Overall, a great place to stay unless you were planning on spending a long time on Koh Tao.

Our ten night stay at Captain Nemo was nice. Som and Phillipe, the owners, are very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, and fresh towels each day was a nice touch.

The location, Mae Haad, while close to the Pier, and so convenient for arrival, isn't too good for enjoying the nightlife. Mae Haad used to be the place to be, but these days, nearby Sairee Beach (a 15 minute walk from Captain Nemo) seems to be where everyone hangs out. The dive shops are there, along with more restaurants and bars. That said, it's not a long walk to Sairee, so this isn't such a big deal, but it's something to be aware of.

On the flip side, some nearby plusses include the Korean-ish BBQ restaurant at the top of the hill near the gas station (delish), Royal Massage one street over (excellent massages), The Coffee House a block away by the pier (great food and coffee), and Utopia Restaurant (a 10 minute walk down toward Save Bungalows, for what really is the best burger in Koh Tao).

All-up, if you're looking for a place to stay in Mae Haad, I'd recommend Captain Nemo. Also, be sure to say hello to Yoda, their dog, and Tom Tom, their cat. Both are friendly and very cute!

Room Tip: Our room, number 3, has a window facing the back yard. If you'd like a bit of natural light, as...
