Chose davy jones for its great reputation and welcoming family like feel ... everybody hangs out at the pool bar and you get to know everyone really quick! The quality of teaching is top notch - I had sophie for my open water, advanced and rescue, with alex for my emergency first response.. sophie was so friendly and made you feel really confortable! The dive sites around the island are stunning! Highly recommend davy jones :)

I did my rescue diver course at DJL and loved it. It's a smaller school and the groups reflect that. More personal attention and tutor contact.
Great team, friendly bunch, pool out back for skills practice, bar for socialising, great dive boats.
There was just of us doing the Rescue Diver with Mike (great guy!) and we had a trainee DM each to 'look after' during the skills dives...haha lots of fun!
Recommend these guys highly!

My friend and I spent seven days on Koh Tao, four of which we did our Open Water Diving Course through DJL, with the instructors Chris, Schmike and Tim, and we found the whole thing wonderful!
The instructors were great, they could really balance the seriousness of teaching with the fun and laughs of diving with friends - they were, in fact, so good that we decided to stay an extra amount of days getting our Advanced Divers certificate, this time with Sophie.
What needs to be said is that the groups at DJL were a perfect size, with more than enough instructors to go around, answering everyones questions etc., whereas we found that other diving resorts took in more than three times the trainees that were in our group.
All in all, more than capable instructors, great atmosphere amongst instructors and trainees, great poolside bar/restaurant and shop.
Would recommend to anyone, no matter if you are a pro or just getting started!

I think the high rating this school has been getting tells you everything... I can only repeat what others have already said: great experience! School is professionally run by friendly staff and experienced instructors.
I wasn’t really sure if scuba diving was for me. But the lessons were built in easy steps and everything was practiced in the pool first before we went on our first open water dive. Our instructor encouraged us to ask questions any time and during the dives made sure we were all comfortable and ok. The steps were easy to follow and because you will be in a small group there is more time for individual help if needed. As far as I could tell the gear was all in good condition and the BCDs looked pretty new. We felt safe at all times.

You could probably find a cheaper school on Ko Tao, but DJL guarantees small groups of max. four students. We started in a group of four and then were only three students for our open water dives. This meant that testing the skills took less time which left us with more time for fun diving. Other schools might have six or even more students in one group! Ko Tao’s reefs are beautiful and we got to see so much cool stuff on every dive!

As part of the free accommodation we stayed in one of the two bungalows along the gravel road which leads to the school from the main road. The bungalows had no AC which in April is definitely no fun! It was scorching hot every day and other than the water there was no escape from the heat (the water was 28C “cold” on the bottom). As the bungalows were right next to the gravel road our balcony was so dusty that we couldn’t use it (dry season!). Also there is a new hotel being built right across the street so there is no nice view from the bungalow either. The bungalow was basic but spacious and clean. Be aware that you are going to attract bugs if you bring food inside! Ko Tao has lots of bars and restaurants and you are likely going to hear some music at night. Also, the tap water on the island is being shipped from the mainland, so try to preserve water! Sometimes it had a red colour and rusty smell but it was ok to flush your teeth. Ko Tao’s accommodation seems super expensive, and after we finished our course we ended up in a hostel as a private room with AC was far beyond our budget (we still exceeded our budget staying in the hostel…). So we were totally ok with our free accommodation as we were only there to sleep anyway.
We loved our course and are glad we ended up with DJL! It was such a new and wonderful experience, we will definitely keep diving!
