We stayed here are the end of Dec, and this was our favorite place we stayed in our trip to Thailand. Our hut was right overlooking the water, where you just lie on the bed and look out to the Gulf of Thailand. Outdoor bathrooms, very ecofriendly... about a 7 minute walk to the breakfast buffet, but to me that was part of the charm. One morning we were walking on the path, and just ahead of us we see a 3 foot iguana crossing! The breakfast was amazing, with both Thai and western style options... and a view overlooking the water as well. The eggs were a bright orange color... so definitely organic which goes with the lodging theme.

Janson Bay is the small beach area where you can swim, and they offer you snorkeling masks as well free of charge. The Bay is on a reef where we saw many bright, wonderful fish... including a puffer. Elvis Bar right there too, so any food or drink you need is brought right to your beach chair.

At night the Starlight restaurant on the property was the best food we had on the island, again, overlooking the water. It really is perfection. Go with the Thai menu. If you go to Thailand to eat pasta, then you are really doing something wrong. It's on the menu... but who does that?!

Like I said, the property is a bit spread out, so be prepared to walk a bit. The town is walking distance as well, where you can get Thai massages for 300 baht ($10 US dollar) for an hour long massage. Well worth many times that anywhere else.

Staff was friendly and helpful... and made our stay everything we could have hoped for. If you are looking for a typical fancy resort where you get your standard boring amenities and everything at the tip of your finger... this is not it. If you are looking for a rustic but gorgeous natural environment where you don't mind doing some walking/exploring... then look no further.

Room Tip: We had room B17. Some of the rooms are not on the water, but we paid a little extra to make sure we...

Best place I've ever stayed in, already dreaming about going back one day. The pictures somehow don't do justice to this place. Our room was much larger than expected, had its own deck with sunbeds (totally worth paying extra for the upgrade) and had all the amenities you need, while still being very rustic. It's the perfect combination of luxury and nature. Yes, the walk to the breakfast restaurant is about 10minutes, but we loved the adventurous path through the jungle (plus a little extra exercise on vacation never hurts). The walk to town (about 20-25min) is also very picturesque and worth taking, even though taxis are accessible from the reception. The beach (Jansombay) has the perfectly clear water and was never too crowded, even though we visited in high season. The water is very clear and having the reef right there makes great snorkeling without taking any extra trips. The dinner at the Starlight restaurant was one of the best meals we've had in Thailand (go for thai signature dishes, skip western). It's super romantic, right on the water. The breakfast was pretty amazing and had variety of thai and western dishes, with delicious fresh eggs made to order. We were surprised by the service and amenities of this level from a 3 1/2 star hotel. We stayed in a 5 star resort later on our trip and all I could think about was how much I missed the Bamboo Huts :) It's truly one of a kind place that deserves only raving reviews!

Room Tip: BB17 has most privacy, if you don't mind the longer walk (it's one before last hut, on the v...

We were fortunate to spend our last night on Koh Tao in Bamboo Hut 18A. We were stunned by the simplicity and beauty of this pool villa and the magnificent view! We spent entirely all day in our villa, swimming in the pool, snorkelling off our villa and just lounging by the pool watching the boats passing by. We simply loved the ground and the walk through the resort. The villa itself is so comfortable with hugh and comfy bed and a quaint open concept bathroom with a big boulder. The staff here are so friendly and attentive. All in all, we love our stay here and highly recommend it if money is not an issue. We were sad to leave this paradise.

If you like a little luxury and don't mind paying for what you get; and steps and a bit of exercise are no problem, then this is the place for you.
Huts have a safe, fan, tv, fridge, AC, full mozzie dome, own balcony, sun deck and the luxury ones a pool is optional but can also slip straight into the ocean.
It's a nice 20 min walk into town or taxi. We hired a motorcycle at 200 baht per day from the hotel which is the same cost for a one-way taxi into town for two.
Great place to stay and we will certainly be staying here again if we come back.
Not a place for the very unfit, handicapped or elderly.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more and treat yourself

I really do not understand the negative reviews on here! Some people need to do their research before booking somewhere! Yes there is a bit of walking involved but it's all part of the experience of this resort and allows the huts to have that secluded feel.
Check in was swift and we were given cool towels and a juice drink whilst we waited. When we saw our room we were speechless, it was so beautiful. Lovely double bed overlooking the sea, an outdoor bathroom and then our decking and steps into the sea. What more could you want for a romantic getaway? Every night we had a drink from the minibar and went to sit on the rock outside our room to watch the sunset, absolute bliss!!
The starlight restaurant a lovely and you have your meal by the sea and under the stars. The breakfast buffer was lovely and had a really good selection including your eggs made to order.the Elvis bar was great for snacks whilst we relaxed on the beach and the cocktails were fab but very strong.
We enjoyed lots of snorkelling here and there was lots to be seen even in the shallows. One thing to point out is the little fish do nip you and that's because there are some idiots who decide to feed the fish their food from the Elvis bar.......the fish are now used to this and approach you when you get in the sea. People really need to stop this as it's not right!
My boyfriend did a shore dive from here and he really enjoyed it.
The walk into town is really pleasant and isn't that far to go,we found some lovely restaurants here.
Would definitely return to koh Tao and the bamboo huts.

We stayed for 3 nights. Our bamboo hut was fantastic and we were very excited to literally be above the ocean. It seems great value to have this type of view. You can swim in front of your hut and there is some good snorkelling. We are fit people so walking to breakfast etc didn't bother us (there are some very steep walking paths). It is a very relaxing, private and peaceful accommodation. The only thing that annoyed us was the mice that could get into the room- our muesli bars got eaten in the night! The food at the Elvis bar was terrible and over priced. To walk to town from the hotel takes around 20mins. Zest cafe was amazing - you have to eat there!

We spent 4 nights at the resort in BB2 overlooking the ocean. Check-in was quick. The property reminded us of a resort we stayed at in Costa Rica. Walking the pathways was relaxing and fun.

The resort is a 10-15 minute walk to town and all of the near-by restaurants located there.

The breakfast buffet was very good. The on-site restaurant and was excellent for dinners. Joe was our waiter for all 4 nights was did an excellent job. He made some great suggestions on where to go and what to do on the island.

Already planning on going back next year with some friends.

Room Tip: For couples go for the BB huts. No kids.
