“Good value, great location, great restaurant!! (unhappy front desk clerk)”
Reviewed August 19, 2010

Hello,

I'm am near the end of a 10-day stay at Sairee Cottage Diving and overall I am very pleased with everything. It is very conveniently located right on the water.

The restaurant serves fresh, delicious food and is packed most nights so the word is out. The prices are also very affordable and fair. I will say for all the foreigners the waitstaff has to deal with it is very surprising they do not speak better English. Koh Tao has clearly replaced Koh Samui as the "place to be/hot spot." I did a two-night stopover on Koh Samui (Lamai Beach) on my way to Koh Tao. Koh Samui was dead -- even in Chaweng!!! Koh Tao is booming - rockin' out every night... So the Thai people here are exposed to a lot ot English speaking people... It's just surprising is all that they haven't picked up more English. The guys in the restaurant were great though -- friendly, efficient service and they have a lot to juggle since they are ALWAYS busy... But man, you better not forget to take your shoes off before entering the restaurant.. Clearly a pet peeve of all of them...

ANYWAY, I stayed in one of the 400 baht a night bungalows and it was perfectly fine -- a standard, plain bungalow with a fan and a nice porch with a table and two chairs. Walk down the sandy path and you are right there -- the restaurant, the beach, front desk, massage, 2 minute walk into town. If you can afford it, go for the A/C room though. It is so humid here and the bungalows get no breeze in them at all.

They also offer all kinds of massage on-site and the staff was wonderful!! Excellent foot massage, pedicure, neck/shoulder massage, facial. Lovely women running the place and so good at what they do. What a treat it was to stop by and see them and get completely taken care of.

I didn't do a dive or go for the certification but a lot of people were doing it and seem to LOVE it. They definitely have their act together with the diving and the feedback I heard from other guests was great.

If you are a single traveller, like me, this is a difficult place to actually meet people since all the people I have seen are travelling in large groups of friends or couples. Having just come from a smaller environment in India where I met lots of people and traveled with them, etc.. it was a difficult transition to make. It's been eight days since I had an actual conversation with another person other than to order food or tell them which massage I want. Luckily, I like to write in my journal and read... And if you do too, it will be the perfect place for you.

I'm moving to Hin Wong Bay in a few days - a more remote part of the island. I'll write another review of the place I stay there too.

One last thing and I hate to end on a negative note, BUT (dot, dot, dot) the only person I had a problem with was this awful girl at the front reception area. Just like the other reviewer, I found her to be just awful. She is young too so very immature and not professional at all. To be in this paradise with the beautiful beach and relaxing environment, she sticks out like a sore thumb with her terrible attitude. She is just plain mean. She'd be the perfect replacement for Simon Cowell on American Idol.

The lady at the reception was terrible - watch her out. She was impolite and overweening. In addition tried to charge me for using internet(in reception room there are some pcs) which was not fair. She argued with me until finally gave me back my money. Real nonsense(they put pcs front to you but there is no word mentioned its not for free). Additionaly they keep your passport while staying there which is illegal (nobody should ask/keep your passport except police and other gov authorities).
