That place is the worst ever. The owner is a very strange guy who gets agressive and unfriendly when u ask him about how to use the 'toilet' and other normal questions.

The bungalow was disgusting. Very dirty and much to small. no furniture, no toiletpaper...and the bed...horrible. the badroom never got cleaned i guess.

The view is great...but that is the only positiv thing i can tell about that place.

This is a very nice and tranquil hotel run by a friendly and welcoming Thai family. The location is ideal. Day fishing trips can be arranged by the owner himself as well as round the island trips. This place is ideal for families and couples. Very clean, bungalow accommodation at very reasonable prices. The owners are very caring and will go into a lot of trouble to keep the guests satisfied. I was there with my family from 10th August - 14 August 2013 and had a wonderful time. Very friendly. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The bungalows higher up the hill all have a beautiful view. The breeze is so soothing and the sound...

This is one of the last family-run places on Ko Tao. Some members of the family are incredibly unfriendly and rather seem to hate their guests. Others behaved normally, so the ambience depends a lot on the person who is just working at the moment. They seem to have some hygiene issues, the bathroom of our bungalow was dirty and so were the towels and bedsheets. The food was acceptable. A couple of unpleasant fellow-travellers were spotted here, some of them so slimy that you wouldn't like to have to sit next to Monsieur Mielleux in the restaurant. And unfortunately, their restaurant isn't big.

I've known about the place from a couple I met in Bangkok that come here every year. They warned me it was a small "roots" resort, but also that the area was magic and calm, distant from the noise around the bay where the pier is but not so far it's a pain to move around. They were right, actually it's even possible to walk to this place, it's a secret resort nobody knows about, wasn't even full in high season so we could get a room. It's cheap so don't expect luxury, you'll have the basic bungalow, but what a view from it, and the sea just down the rocks is crystal clear, with fishes swimming around you. We didn't see the thai owner much but she was helpful when needed, and anyway we met a lot of people there, the atmosphere is really friendly, everybody speaks to everybody, no guest stays alone.

We loved it here, stayed for 4 nights.
Con:
- out of the way. You'll have to pay for a taxi boat to get there or do any other activities on the island

Pros:
- isolated, quiet
- nice beach and access to renting kayak and snorkelling
- wonderful snorkelling right at the doorstep
- cute, clean bungalows with wonderful views and right on the beach
- good food in resto
- good WiFi connection in resto
- some nice walks/hikes nearby

Summary - nice place to relax, If you want action you may want to base yourself elsewhere unless you're comfortable riding a motorbike. Worth staying a few nights to enjoy the serenity.

After a long journey we arrived in the morning at Tao Thong. A bit remote and of the beaten track, poorly accessible, even by 4x4.

The owner was incredibly unfriendly to us from the start on. She yelled to her dogs while we were talking to here. Every question was returned with a big sigh.

To make a long story short, we decided not to take a room. Then the owner got angry and became even more unfriendly. Now she yelled to my girlfriend after we asked her if she could order a taxi.

I have never met such an unfriendly hotel manager.

I am reluctant to give Tao Thong such a good review because it might only make it more popular and therefore expensive. However I had such a great stay here that I would not be honest to the people here not to rate it. From beautiful sunsets at the Skybar with Ole, his beautiful partner, Red Dog and Billie with a cocktail or a cold beer to the bungalow accommodation with sea views at your doorstep this is a place to relax and unwind. Hammocks on your verandah and simple but tasty Thai food all at reasonable rates.
Not for the party crowd though (ain't it great)! Half hour walk into town or a taxi boat trip if you don't like the exercise this is a place for those who want to get some sun, snorkel or just talk to other guests on the deck of the restaurant. Thanks to my friend Marion for introducing me to this piece of heaven and to all the great people I met there, Chook, Tong, Ole, Aurora, Izabelle, Fredericka, Christina, Frank and all the others. I'll be back.

Room Tip: Up to you, but all good views.
