I took a two day climbing course with Goodtime Adventures, and am concerned about the instructors attitude to safety and equipment maintenance.

I had to specifically ask for certain safety precautions (helmet, prusik for abseil) which left me feeling uneasy. One of the abseil points had to be climbed to without any protection; whilst not particularly difficult there was a large drop if things went wrong.

Much of the equipment was old and worn looking- I had to use climbing shoes with a big hole in the side, some of the locking karabinas were very stiff, and the instructor took the stance of 'I'll retire it if you can prove that it's unsafe', rather than the generally accepted 'if in any doubt, retire it'.

This is a serious accusation and it is unfortunate to hear you feel this way from the two days you spent doing your introductory course to anchor building. We take safety very seriously due to the adventurous nature of the activities we offer. We are disappointed that you think we have a ‘Complacent attitude towards safety’. This is inaccurate and please be assured this is simply not the case. Our team of professionally trained instructors all have many years of experience, and go out of their way on a daily basis to ensure safe and enjoyable activities for all.

All of our equipment meets & exceeds safety standards, and is regularly inspected and replaced if there ‘is any doubt’. However, as with any adventure sport, all equipment is subject to regular use - sometimes in testing conditions – which can lead to wear & tear and dirt build up on some items. This does not however mean that they are no longer fit for use. For example the safety leash you were concerned with was simply a little dirty from use on the mountain and was perfectly safe to use. The same can be said of your climbing shoes. The granite rock we have here is very harsh on the shoes; we are constantly resoling them and buying replacements. With this specific pair, the small hole was not on the actual sole but the side of the shoe and therefore did not affect its practical use. With regards to the sticking carabiner, this happens - even with regular cleaning and oiling due to the jungle and salty environment. The carabiner in question was replaced as soon as this was bought to our attention. Some equipment is not mandatory - nor indeed necessary for some activities, but is always available on request if it helps with customer peace of mind (eg helmets) regardless of whether they are required for the technical activity in question (eg prusik), as was the case with your entry level course. Safety is of upmost importance in this environment, and we would never send clients on any trip or course with inadequate or unsafe equipment and guidance.

Customer happiness is important to us and once again we are sad to hear you were not satisfied, especially when at the time you seemed grateful for your new skills and experience.

We did the Zipline trip. It was amazing. Everything was perfect. We did also snorkelling and walked to the viewpoint. Everything is included. No nmore fees to add. All people of the staff are so friendly, profesional and they don't hesitate to answer to your questions. I would do it again again again...
