“Million dollar views. A bit too rustic for us...”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We found this place while exploring on our scooter. To find it (you shoud really rent a scooter, I had good luck with Island Travel near the pier, one street past the 7-11) had towards Sai Daeng Beach. At the first fork stay LEFT, follow signs for Coral View Resort. Go to wooden sign that say "To Beach." You can park your scooter here. Road down is drivable and many people, us included, drove down to the bottom. Park where all the other scooters are. Rockey steps heading down from here go to the beach and the New Heaven Restaurant. Rocky steps heading up go to the huts.

We looked at a few different ones and chose #11 (900/night). The view of the ocean/cliffs is AMAZING. We drank many a beer on the balcony and just took in the view.

Overall Good:
-Million dollar view for 900 Baht/night!
-Nice private beach with good snorkling/swimming.
-Restaurant has good food. Friendly but akaward service.

Overall Bad:
-Hiking up to huts on steep rock hills is tiring. Slip and fall = not good.
-Need your own scooter to get places. Isolated.
-The mosquito net was full of holes. We had a horrible sleep each night as it was very hot/humid and we were scared of some critter joining us in our bed.
-Poor lighting, hard to see around hut after dark.
-Poorly maintained, no shower head on shower. Shower is also cold only.

If you are a bit less wussy than us you might love the place. We did love it in the day time, however when it came time to hit the sack we cursed the place and wondered why we didn't pay a bit more elsewhere.

Overall I would not stay here again mainly becasuse of the issues sleeping. If the huts were maintained a bit better (a decent mosquito net would have helped a LOT) I would give it a better reccomendation.

Room Tip: Choose your hut carefully! The walk up/down the rocks at night is a bit dodgey. Look over carefully...

I really liked the location (nice view, nice beach, ...) and the bungalow, but the restaurant as well as the accommodation are very expensive.

No negociated rates for taxis or other kind of services (which most of other accommodation offer in Koh Tao)

The food in the restaurant is sometimes very good and sometimes you take exactly the same meal and it is not the same quality at all.

Also, they showed our bungalow to another couple while we were inside, without telling us, knocking or apologizing - we found it very strange!

If you have any complaint, nobody seems to care.

So it is very nice, but too expensive given the lack of service. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here mid-June. What can I say - the rooms are clean, comfy and affordable on a private beach. The beach isn't white sand but has coral you can snorkel around. Book ahead to get the cheapest rooms. We had the 1,100 baht hut that overlooked the beach - perfect view from the hammock! I've got to say that after 3 years of living and travelling around Thailand, the food was incredible - Bamboo Beach on Koh Lanta now has some serious competition in terms of culinary delights for both Western and Thai. The price is worth it.

Would have given this a five star BUT I feel if you pay 1,100 baht a night for a room you should at least get free water. Also, I don't like the food ordering method where you have to write your order down. The waitresses hang around the kitchen area and seem to wait for you to bring them the piece of paper with your order on it. There were a few times when we just sat and waited for one of them to serve us and there were about four of them just sitting around chatting. They are very friendly though, just a bit untrained, I think.

Apart from that, we'll be back!

Room Tip: If you like a view, and don't mind a few steep steps, go for the 1,100 baht rooms.

We have recently returned from a 3 week trip to Thailand and I have to say that one of the highlights was New heaven. The location is absolutley stunning with incredible views from the restaurant over Shark Bay, the food is fantastic ( the best on our 3 week trip) and all the staff are great.

Our two boys were utterly amazed at the snorkelling and in the 4 days we spent here we swam with sharks every day ( the last day we saw 9!) So ignore the Lonely Planet which says" despite the name there are no sharks in Shark Bay" !.

The only negative thing I have to say is that the rooms were rather dark but great value £46 per night for a 2 room bungalow, We will definately go back .

Enjoy

This resort is beautiful, but the cheap bungalows are gross. Ours (#10) did have a beautiful view and a nice hammock, but most things inside were broken and the bathroom was downright frightening. There was a massive hope in the ceiling plugged with an old towel which allowed the biggest lizard ever to hang out above the toilet all night. So try the more expensive ones.

Otherwise this place is nice. The bay is really quiet, the service at the resto is great and the food is quite good too.

Good food , great wine, fresh rooms and quiet beach. This place is for people who have learned not to take life to seriously. Kickback and relax!

My boyfriend and I found New Heaven on Trip Advisor and for the most part the reviews were good, so although it was more expensive than what we were looking for, we decided that with what we heard about the view and that the area was great for snorkeling, we would go for it. When we got there we were informed that our original room was under constuction and we would be moved to an upgraded room free of charge. This sounded great, and when we got to the room, it was beautiful so we were happy. Shortly after we arrived, though, we started to hear rustling noises in the roof and the very loud squeals, when we looked up we could see fast footsteps on the grass-type material ceiling, and then either a rat or a mouse poked its nose through. We are not very picky people but it was very loud and frankly kind of creepy that there was wht sounded like a family of mice living in our room. When we went to complain, the manager was dismissive and told us it was a gecko. We told her we knew that geckos dont make the noise we hear and they arent heavy enough that you should be able to see footsteps in the roof either. She told us "well i know it can't be a mouse but i will send someone to look anyway" so she sent someone to come see, and he agreed that it was a mouse or a rat but he was convinced it had left when he heard it scurry to the other side of the hut. Later we heard more noises so we complained again and said that we wouldnt mind if we went to a less nice room but we wanted out of there, and then speaking in thai she turned and laughed to her employee and said something and then "gecko hahaha". We were so appalled, she didn't even applogize. But at the very least the room she gave us (the one we were originally supposed to get) had a wooden roof, we got to enjoy some snorkeling and we heard geckos, but that was okay with us.
