“Great location but horrible staff”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

The hotel is nice located in Chalok beach, walking distance to some bars, restaurants & diving schools. The price of the room is ok (in low season we paid 1000b). However the room has never been cleaned. I agree what other people are writing about the owner. The lady is really tricky with the prices of any additional services (loundry- we paid 60 bahts/kg, while every else it was 40bahts, the trip to Krabi was about 300bahts more expensive than in other agencies). The restaurant is expensive and not good (we had there breakfast only once) The funniest thing happened to us on the last da. We had to check out on 10am, but our bout was leaving at 9pm, so we asked the reception to leave there our bags (it was for free :-) ) & we asked for possibility to shower. The price was ok, 50 bahts/ person...but later it turned ou that the price didn't include towels....not a big money, but leaves some bad impression...

Room Tip: Generally it is ok to stay in Big Fish for sake of good location, however try to avoid any additiona...

Big Fish has the nicest location in Chalok beach. It has a very nice garden/beach area. Nice looking, sea-viewing rooms are also very charming. It offers s relatively good price especially on low season.
But! the stuff is terrible. Very rude and annoying. Once you pay the money for the room, you completely face with someone else, rude and bad attitude!
Before we rent the room we specifically asked about the wifi, because we needed it very much to arrange the rest of our trip. And we were told that wi-fi is available every where (inc. the rooms) in the resort. Right after we rent the room, we requested the wi-fi password and the lady who is in charge, told us that wi-fi is very slow and even sometimes don't work!! We thought maybe it was a temporary problem. But it was not! We stayed there 5 days and we never had wi-fi. We were very upset about being lied and went to the reception to talked about the problem couple of times but every time, we faced that rude lady who was almost about to yell us and who kept telling that she can not do anything about the connection problem.
we can ofcourse live without wifi, especially when there are many cafes around who provide it for free but we don't think we should be dealing with stupid lies and such a rude attitude of the stuff!

The owner is pretty crazy, maybe look for a place near by, we like the room, was very comfortable, the price was fair and it was a clean place to stay. The restaurant was a bit expensive, never clean the room, at the end we noticed that you can leave the key in the office and then they will clean it but we were never told that. The place outside looks very nice since it's well cared. It's only the staff that makes it go low average!

We had a very pleasant stay at Big Fish. I was reluctant to stay here based on the horrible TripAdvisor reviews. No, it is not a five star resort and you should not go there with high expectations. However, many of the reviews said they had trouble with safety and that the staff was rude. This was not our experience. Staff was fine and we didn't have anything stolen. They don't clean the rooms unless you ask for it. I was ok with this because at first I was concerned about the bad safety reviews and was happy to just take out the garbage ourselves. After staying a few days and feeling more comfortable, we asked them to clean our room and they were happy to. The mattress was very hard but we were fine with that. Again, low expectations really help. Rooms were clean, basic, nice.

We did not book ahead and just showed up to our dive shop and figured it out from there. This place was right next door so we decided to have a look at the rooms. I highly recommend asking to see the room choices first. I think we got the best room because of this. If you go, STAY IN ROOM 11!!!! We were deciding if we wanted to pay extra for the AC or just get a fan room. I'm glad we went with the AC room. Not totally necessary but mostly it was the view that made this room well worth it! Upstairs balcony, right on the beach, with a beautiful view of Chalok Ban Kao bay! We had an amazing stay. We were supposed to stay for 4 days and ended up staying almost 2 weeks. In my opinion, we had the best, and likely cheapest view in the entire bay! We pretty much spent our whole trip in a bathing suit. Our days consisted of morning scuba dives, reading and enjoying the view on our private balcony, going to 7-11 to get beers and drinking them in the bay right outside our bungalow at sunset. If this sounds like your kind of vacation, then I recommend this place!

Room Tip: ROOM 11. Best view in the whole bay!

The location is great, chalok is a good place to stay in ko tao, and it's on the beach. The owners and the personnel are untrustworthly. Liers, tricks with the change... Take care! They will make u think you gave them an smaller note and they give you the chage according to the wrong note.. They stole you on your face! Don't belive the madam on the reception... She always tries to give you upper prices ... For the shop, for the taxi, for the room, ... Don't hear her advices. The restaurant was awful, bad kitchen even for scrambled eggs... Only the location is worthy, but try to find another place before this one. Cleaning room? We never saw anything similar ...
They treat the guest as victims whom they never see again, so they don't mind about their opinion.... Thanks tripadvisor to give us the opportunity to complaint... Smile and complaint.
By the way ... The are not thais, they are burma inmigrants...

Room Tip: Try to find another place

One of the worst places i Have been during my stay in Thailand. This place is not a resort but a place where they take your money by smiling to your face. The staff is really terrible, like some local people with no english but thinking that they are so smart and the foreigners are so stupid. They have a very spot for the beach (even the water is not so good, the beach is nice) and they know that in Koh Tao, there are not too many places to stay so they behave terrible against their all guest. My coins were stolen during my first night when they were cleaning the room. I told the reception about it and they told me to forget it, because they are just coins! Unbelievable! Stay away from here, and if you made a mistake by staying here for some nights, do not forget to take your belongings always with you.
And i dont even mention the bedbugs, any kind of bugs, and lots of dogs outside barking at night, the doors are not so safe at all, no good locks.... Terrible, stay away!

Myself and my husband stayed here for our honeymoon. It was the end of a 3 week stay around Thailand, money was running low so we stayed here for the last 4 nights.
Luckily we got a room on the end which meant sea views. Strangely there's a side window that backs onto your neighbours side window so this can be very noisy at times.
We rented a scooter through reception, after a few minutes out on it we realised the speedometer didn't work and the front tyre was completely flat, it was really dangerous. This is when the stern faced owner completely turned and became very rude when we tried to exchange it! She wouldn't give us our money back saying we'd had the bike for hours. After a heated argument we eventually got the money back but we'd filled the bike with gas and there was no chance she would give us that back. She refussed to rent us another and told us to go somewhere else. She then claimed we owed 1000Baht as a deposit for the room!!! We were never asked for this at checkin and avoided paying this.
There was another couple we met who also returned their bike due to issues, so becareful.

The room was ok. Quite dark however! It was very child like with signs regarding costs involved for late check out / broken glasses / ripped bed sheets, the list was endless!
The room was never cleaned in 4 days and we had to buy our own toilet paper!
We paid 50Baht for the wifi which the sign in the room clearly stated was for your entire stay, however this only works on one device at a time and is very poor, you have to sign back in literally every few minutes. The next day the code no longer worked and I was informed by the owner the sign should say 50Baht per day.
The shower also had a strange eggy smell on occasion!
I wouldn't stay here again and I also would not reccommend it....
