I initially booked a standard room. It was dingy and depressing with only an ol, funky closet as furniture. So I paid $20 US to upgrade to a Luxury Room.
Luxury room was large, new and had a nice feel. Comfortable bed, wifi worked well, fridge/minibar, AC, hot water and balcony. Great location with a fantastic vibe at the restaurant on the beach.
Cons: Bathroom shower was open to the sky. This is quite nice for showering, but requires you to keep your bathroom door closed at all times to keep the mosquitoes out of your room. Also there was a foul odor from some nearby sewage or swamp (rotting vegetation) which was quite strong from the bathroom. The motor bike rental shop on that side of the room was very noisy. Noise from nightclub on the next street went into the wee hours of the morning, every night, and motor bikes o the pathway in front of the room were very loud. If you are a light sleeper or want a peace and quiet this is not the place. I was so tired that it never bothered me at night as I was exhausted from the sun and salt water. Not having a safe in the room was a bummer.
I left the island for a full moon party and did not return to that hotel to stay. It was expensive for budget travel.More
