If you would like to stay in an immaculately clean, family-owned, boutique resort then this is the place for you. The views over Chaalok Bay while relaxing in the infinity pool made the walk up the (admittedly) steep road to the resort worth every step. The owners and staff went out of their way to do anything for you and the restaurant was competetively priced compared to everywhere else on Koh Tao but served us the best food that we ate anywhere on the island. It was a short walk to a 7-11, pharmacy, yoga studio, massage place, bars, etc. and only a 20 min. walk to Mae Head town or 30 min. to Sairee Beach Village if you don't feel like hiring a taxi but get ready for crowds of people in both places. Better to stay a little further away from the main drag where you hear nothing but the jungle at night, yet is handy to services when you need them. This place offered the best of both worlds and you can always hitch a ride into town with their driver when he goes in for passenger pick-up at the ferry - we did. I would not recommend this place to people with children or if you have mobilty issues but for the rest of us this place was an absolute paradise. My husband and I stayed over New Years and met most of the other guests who were all lovely and friendly. When you're staying at a small place that's what tends to happen - which we enjoyed immensely. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: all the rooms have an amazing view of the bay - you can't go wrong! The higher up you go the more steps but the better the view!

Stayed at Chintakiri for a few nights before moving elsewhere and it was very enjoyable although the pool was a bit too small for the number of guests. Rooms very nice although unremarkable. The service was very nice though and the view amazing. It's a bit of a walk down as many as commented and that I can certainly concur. Having said that, just rent a moped which you need anyway to appreciate the beauty of the whole island. Overall I would come back for sure.

Room Tip: Deluxe Pavilion is nice and larger than the Superior's. Ask for a room away from the reception.

Whether this place is for you depends hugely on what you want. The positives: beautiful, well-appointed bungalows with comfy beds, lovely balconies and amazing SW views; helpful service with very friendly staff - the first night we were exhausted and they served us a pizza in our room; beautiful pool with incredible sunset view, with good loungers so you can bake and cool off; restaurant isn't unreasonably priced for Koh Tao, and they can make good drinks for you all day at the pool. And if you're here just for a few days and want to get away from it all, then the location is well away from the action. The negatives: down the hill in Chalok there really is very little to do. We didn't think any of the places looked inviting. Chalok beach is minging - good for neither sitting nor snorkelling. We made an effort to climb up to Suran-John viewpoint for the view back over the island, and then went snorkelling off an isolated beach down there. For beach sunbathing, we much preferred the few days we spent near Sairee. The isolation of the hotel is less of a problem if you either have your own transport or don't mind forking out for the very expensive cabs on Koh Tao. My only other gripe is when the restaurant was busy, food took a long time to come (40 mins for two salads). At other times it was fine. In summary, this was a lovely place to spend 3-4 fairly lazy days but we were glad to have already had a few diving in Sairee. This hotel IS the holiday, with it's lovely staff and great setting - it's not a great base for exploration. Finally, if you've chosen Koh Tao as your destination, you can almost certainly deal with the 3 minute hill.

We stayed at Chintakiri 3 nights and loved it! Yes, there are some negatives like the steep hill going up, but the positives like the view and the service totally outweighs them. Service is fantastic - nothing is too much and the staff are very friendly and smiling all the time! Everything was taken care of for us - ferry tickets, pick up at the pier, luggage, scooter and a full day private snorkeling trip from a long tail boat.
The bungalows are nice and they all have great views. However, the first villa we stayed in was located at the end and the noise from the road and the bar next to the resort was a bit disturbing. It looked like this only was a problem for the 2 bungalows at the one end of the resort. We asked to change bungalows and this was taken care of without problems.
The pool area is a nice place to hang out in the afternoons with some cocktails or a beer, and the restaurant serves good food.
We would highly recommend this place, but because of the hill and the stairs and steps everywhere it is not for everyone.
The beach at the bottom of the hill is not really worth spending much time at other than for restaurant visits, but there are plenty of other beaches to go to. We would highly recommend a trip to the Nangyuan Island!

What an amazing view. And the staff was absolutely fantastic. "Kung" (or perhaps "Gung") the main receptionist/concierge was amazingly helpful. The bungalows are fantastic. beds comfortable, rooms well appointed. The only issue would be the climb. Taxis will charge extra to get you up the hill. Walking it is doable, but in the am or the late pm. I would say it was worth it, but only if you plan on staying put. If you are going to be diving/snorkeling/touring etc then pick somewhere lower down. Otherwise, enjoy the view, food, pool, and hospitality.

Room Tip: There are lower level rooms which still have a decent view and don't require as many stairs. Then again there are top level rooms with amazing views, but the requisite climb.
