“Dreamy beach side bungalow...”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

We stayed 4 nights in a beach side bungalow. With high tide I think the ocean was 5 meters from the terrace. Yes the bungalows are simple, only fan, and no hot water, but we loved it. Our kids 2 and 5 years loved the beach and staying there. I found the snorkling off the beach quite good, despite some of the fish biting. When the tide was low there was one type of fish the where very agressive and a lot of people got bitten. The resturant was quite good, with a good selection of food at ok prices. We went on the trip to the view point, wich was very nice.
All in all a very nice place to relax and enjoy the Beach, but be sure to book a beach front bungalow. Like others are mentioning after the 4 days we where glad to move on to where we could choose other resturants and so on. But for 3-4 days it was really nice!

Room Tip: Beach front Bungalows are defenetly worth it!

I just recently stayed at Phi Phi Relax Beach Resort with 2 girlfriends & we just loved it. I happened to read the reviews the night before we stayed as what a bit apprehensive as to what to expect and was surprised it wasn't as bad as people made out. Yes there is no electricity from 6am to 6pm & the showers are cold water only but the huts are very very clean, staff are extremely helpful & happy, prices are really good in the restaurant & the bar and the food was of good quality & plenty on the plate. We also stayed at the Outrigger which was great but overall we far preferred out stay at Phi Phi Relax just for the true Thailand experience it offered us.

Room Tip: Book a beachfront villa - it isn't really that much more.

Remote is the word. Its defiantly relaxed with one restaurant & bar in the centre where everyone enjoyed good food and drinks at reasonable prices. Its a eco resort so no electricity from 7-6pm everyday, hence no air con or fridge or even hot water in the rooms. You get a mozi net and fan and the rooms are comfortable with great sea views. It was very windy and the sea was rough at this side of the island the three days we stayed so the 30 min long tail boat trip there and back was awful, plus we had to jump into the water to get from the boat to the lovely beach, the luggage is carried for you so it doesn't get wet! You can walk back to the main resort through the jungle within an hour, exploring the three view points on route, which is worth the hot sweaty hike there, wear trainers as lots of tree roots and it gets muddy plus there's snakes and scorpions ( not that we saw any).

Before booking Relax Beach I did a whole lot of research and knew exactly what I was getting myself in for. Complete seclusion with higher than usual prices.

Ok yes drinks are more expensive (200bht for cocktails and 150 ish I think for beers) so you don't stay many nights but I honestly think it is worth it. We had a wonderful couple of nights here. Yes you get charged a bit extra for boat transfers but the price of the bungalows is reasonable in comparison to other resorts on secluded beaches like p p erawan.

Overall the location is stunning and the experience completely tranquil and truly relaxing if you can get past the odd cockroach.

Lastly yes you might have to jump out of or climb into a long tail to get to or from the resort but hey isn't that a little bit of the fun

Several times, I have visited this spot, and I keep coming back. This time, the only avalable hut was on the back row, up to the forest - and the generator. Luckily, it, the generator that is, is turned off at about midnight. The forest goes on murmuring till about 5:30. Wonderful. The place is very basic, with rain water in the pipes (i.e. one temperature bathing water). No electricity during the day. Wonderfull service. Wonderfull food and a very nice beach bar with funky bartenders. Prices a bit high for Thailand, but understandable, when you consider the amount of supplies shipped in and the huge piles of trash shipped out. By the way, they are eco-conscient, so they a.o. separate rubbish. The place is very popular with the next door neighbours, as those folks apparantly don't have a decent restaurant. Nice opportunity to meet people, and at the same time, it crowds the restaurant. Very beautiful snorkeling opportunities just off the beach. And very nice trips arranged by the resort. By the way, at night if you have to to to the bathroom, turn on the light, count to five and then enter. It is in the middle of nature, so the "locals" have a ball. That said, the bed has an extremely efficient mosquito net.

Beware! Unless your idea of relaxation is to be completely cut off from the world while simultaneously being royally ripped off, DO NOT GO THERE! Before you read I would first like to say that this was not a cheap hotel by Thailand standards, it was one of the most expensive places that we stayed and it had the worst service and most ridiculous rules.

They required us to pay for all for days up front, rather than paying day by day as we did in all other hotels in Thailand.

For starters there are only about two taxi boats that will take you from the hotel to the other side of koh phi phi per day. Unless you want to trek an hour through the jungle you must take these taxis, not only are they offered at a few inconvenient times per day, you have to pay for them.

The hotel offers various day trips / excursions around the island and surrounding islands. These trips are the same exact ones offered on the other side of Koh Phi Phi but are about twice the price. The most ridiculous part about them is that if the trip is canceled in advance due to reports of bad weather or other circumstances you cannot get your money back. So basically you have to pay for the trip ahead of time and even if they are canceling it on you, you still cannot get your money back. That makes absolutely no sense. Of course you can book a trip from the other travel agencies but you of course will probably not be able to get to them at the right time or be able to get back to your hotel afterwards because the water taxis only leave once in the morning and once in the evening.

There is only electricity from 6 pm to 6 am. Considering you are stuck there with nothing to do, you would think you would want to sleep later than 6 am but its pretty much impossible because once the electricity goes, so does the fan and than you are sweating and too uncomfortable to sleep.

There is no hot water.

You have to pay for your snorkel gear.

They have a safety box service which they charge for. Basically they wrap your things in a paper package and leave it downstairs at the restaurant and if you want to open the package they charge you to open it and rewrap it.

You have to pay for internet, but it only works for a couple of hours per day and when it does work you have to stand by the front desk in order to get any service on your device.

You have to pay for your snorkel gear.

There is only one restaurant which means you have only one option for food and it is not cheap. Both my girlfriend and myself got food poisoning from eating dinner there.

The next morning when we asked to check out because we were both sick we were told that if we were the only ones that got sick than it wasn't food poisoning. Also, we were told that we would not be refunded for the three nights that we didn't stay there because of "booking". Although we did not use any sort of booking site to book our room, they insisted that since we payed for the room they could not refund us because they would not be able to rent it to anyone else for those three nights. I still cannot wrap my head around this one. This makes no sense. We booked the room in person, and paid up front, eventhough we had left the room in perfect condition they somehow were unable to rent the room to anyone else because of booking. I would also like to make it known that there occupancy rate was pretty low with maybe 20% of their rooms full.

Final note, when we got on the boat, at least 3 more people were leaving cause they got... food poisioning

I did a lot of research before choosing this resort for our trip. The good reviews and pictures fooled us. This resort is on a beautiful property and has a lot to offer if you are willing to pay through the roof for it. Upon arriving, at night, the men in our tiny boat who didn't speak English stopped the boat quite far from the shore and made us jump over board holding our bags above our heads and wade to shore. Granted it was only about waste deep - this is not relaxing in the slightest. Along with the fear of getting my camera/ passport bag wet, the men (3) who took us on the resorts 'shuttle' boat from the pier actually pointed, laughed and made fun of my brother for taking off his hiking boots before jumping in. The food is extremely over priced and there are HIDDEN FEE'S EVERYWHERE!!! I paid for the best bungalow they offer - the water in the sink/ shower reeked like sewer, there were bugs everywhere (even though we had NO food of any sort in our bungalow we woke up swarmed in ants- they even found their way into my ipad and ruined it). The shuttle to the rest of the island is rare and over priced. We decided after ONE night we had to escape, we went to get on a boat to the Phuket mainland to get on the next plane to Malaysia. We are super outdoorsy, pro extreme camping, hiking enthusiasts from Canada- and WE were disused. They made us pay to leave the resort (even though our reservation was only for one night) on the shuttle, but the shuttle couldn't go because enough people weren't interested apparently. The lady working at the resort organizing the shuttle service made us each pay 400Baht. it was the only option, so i did it. After waiting 3 hours they took us, again we swam out to the boat, bags above head. THEY MADE US JUMP FROM THIS SMALL BOAT TO A LARGER FERRY BOAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN IN THE RAIN!!! We had to throw our bags and hope they made in onto the other boat. I watched a father cling to his child and jump because no one would help him (these are resort staff members working on these shuttles) After we were secure on the boat, we went in and they made us pay 900Baht for being on the boat!!! They said oh "no you don't pay resort lady you pay me" so i over paid AGAIN They then charged 30Baht for a bottle of water!! THIS WAS A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! i have had other friends go to Phi Phi and have similar stories about surrounding resorts. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! (unless you are rich and love to be scammed continuously)

Room Tip: These rooms are not sealed- expect to be eaten alive, even with the help of nets.
