The attitude of the staff is terrible. we booked the expensive rooms that located in the higher raw, and when we needed the small vehicle to go to the room, they said: it is not working.." only when we started to shout they agreed to take us and suddenly the vehicle was fixed... they didn’t come to take us from the pier as they promised and let us wait an hour in the sun although they knew exactly when we are coming and even spoke with us in the phone.
When we checked out and left with the long tale boat to the pier, they left some of our luggage in the reception. we noticed the missing luggage when we arrive to the pier and we called the reception to check, they said that nothing was left there... we came back and found the missing luggage in the reception and they didn’t even apologies, the only thing they had to say is that they are not going to take us to the pier again - they will take us only if we will pay them again...
They were rood all the time we stayed there. We definitely will not come back. The long beach is the best beach in Phi Phi but there are nice options and much better from all aspects than this hotel.

Room Tip: Do not come to beach resort hotel - choose other hotel in long beach, as it is great beach. in any c...

The beach resort Koh phi phi is not worth the money. We came after staying at the J W Marriott in Phuket where we actually paid less. The rooms are very nicely built but the facility inside is not up to the mark. Old TV with bad reception, old and torn towels, super hard cushions etc. The kettle has no plug next to it and the internet connection only worked after 6pm when the other resorts on the same beach had no problem of connection. They run out of beach towels every day and refuse to learn. If you need a beach towel after 3pm you better bring your own. We are vegetarians and the breakfast was very poor from this point of view. Room service is 20% more expensive that the restaurant. All this is fine if there are no choices but the thing is that there are other great options on the same beach for half and even a third of the price!

Phi Phi The Beach resort!!!!

As a seasoned world traveller and those who may have read my previous postings, this is the biggest disappointment yet!

If you are thinking about staying on Koh Phi Phi Don I urge you to read on before booking.

Having seen the photos of the chalets and read the reviews The Beach resort appeared to be the archetypal tropical island resort. A seclude luxury haven of peace and tranquility at a price.

How wrong could we be?

First impressions count for nothing…Upon arriving at Tonsai Pier from Phuket our private longtail was waiting to take us to our hotel. The view from the sea of the hilltop villas is stunning (just as stated in earlier reviews). We were looking forward to our stay.

However, upon check in it all changed...the receptionists are unhelpful and when taken to our Superior villa I questioned whether we had been allocated the wrong villa... Look at the picture of the cracking looking hilltop villas then compare with the chalet we were offered...MAke your own mind up.

Not only did the villa not look like those in the photos, but no sea view either!!!!
The room was basic, not rustic but very basic. The bathroom was joke, the decorators couldn't even be bothered to paint round the sides of the wc, cracked tiles and poor light. When we saw the chalets we thought they were the staff accommodation!!!! We could have cried.

The resort was fully booked so chance of a move, and was told I would have to take it up with our booking agent Agoda. But there was little they could do as it was a weekend.

Day two got worse…Any chance of a peaceful stay disappeared, firstly the arrival of very heavy trucks, bulldozers and heavy plant machinery arrived with floodlights blazing trundled up and down the hill rumbling past our chalet from 8am until after 8pm each day. see pics

Totally unacceptable and without any previous notice or warning. Had we known we would never have booked this idyllic looking location!!!

Furthermore, whilst on the beach relaxing away from the over crowded resort beach where noisy Americans and Australians were shouting at each other, some random French guy informed us that a Tsunami was on its way and due to hit the island within the next two hours!!!

No sign of any Tsunami evacuation route, not a member of staff in sight we were left to our own devices finding the quickest route up the hillside to the highest point on the small island with other guests.
We found all the staff had reached the summit before the guests!!!
No emergency procedure whatsover!

At no time were we informed of events or an evacuation procedure by a member of resort staff, as guests, it was left to a member of staff from another hotel to keep us informed of where we should go and what was happening.

At this point CNN was reporting on the severity of the Earthquake and expected damage to hit Phuket first before moving onto Phi Phi. It was expecting the worst.

After sitting on the hillside until dark and being eaten alive by mosquitos, both guests and staff started to move back down the hill in total darkness and were offered a carton of fried rice as the restaurant was closed. A welcome jesture however, we have already had our holiday spoiled by everything else.

We never even thought about the effects of a Tsunami (it couldn't happen to us syndrome)...But we were stuck on a small island without warning, without shelter, or any means of escaping the effects.
All we could do was sit in our beach clothes at the hilltop and wait for the worst!!!!!

Fortunately for all concerned the Tsunami was downgraded after 4 hours of surreal waiting and no damage was reported, just a large storm throughout the night.

The overall attitude of the young staff on the resort is appalling. They just do not seem to understand what customer service is, with the exception of a couple of staff handling our luggage, we found them lazy, apathetic and complacent making you feel as though we were in the way.

The food is unadventurous and bland, each morning the bar was left dirty and cluttered with empties from the night before until it was cleared by the breakfast staff.
The bar does not stock Tonic and many other mixers, and on the occasions we drank and ate at the restaurant, we were left to make second and third choices of food and drink as it would have been better for them to tell us what they could serve... Hardly a luxury resort when you can't order a G&T or your choice of food :((

There is another bar attached to the reception, overlooking the beach which plays loud Reggae music until the early hours, great if you like Reggae, but we were in Thailand not the Caribbean!!!
This looks on first impressions asa luxury resort...IT IS NOT!

We ended up arranging a daily longtail into Tonsai to eat, for a few pounds and no hassle.
For approx. £2 its better and easier to arrange your own private longtail at your convenience.

The resort does offer a free transfer back to Tonsai Pier to catch your ferry, however at 8am and 2.30pm they are not convenient at all.

Phi Phi The Beach Resort is a façade, looks fantastic from a distance but we couldn’t wait to leave.

Daytrippers arrive continuously on private boats throughout the day and swamp what we thought was the Resort private beach, so unless you get your sun bed before they arrive you'll be lying in the sand!!!

Having lived in " luxury" and "roughed it" all over the globe, we wouldn’t stay on Phi Phi again if it were free!!!

We chartered our own longtail for the day snorkelling, wanting to see Koh Phi Phi Leh (where the film the Beach was filmed)...A nightmare!!
You can't get anywhere the beach for the boats!!! The beach is rammed with tourists and have to swim between the flotilla of boats arriving and departing whiilst snorkelling (an accident waiting to happen) we stayed max 5 mins!!!

If you think this part of Thailand looks like the picture postcard beach shots you see on the net or in the movies, it is a stark contrast from the thousands that flock there each day!!!

A total and utter disappointment.
The second night we ate at Tonsai Seafood....Don't bother, the staff are ignorant and ignore your requests, take your oder and then foregt about you, we asked 5 times for a Sprite drink and eventually went to the bar ourselves. Food was average, waiting time a total joke. We chose the restaurant due to its size and how busy it was...always a good sign.

The only saving grace of our stay on Phi Phi came on our last night...a meal in Tonsai at Le Grand Bleu a French Thai restaurant with food worthy of a Michelin star. Simply some of the finest food we have eaten anywher in the world, excellent staff and a great location.

Basically Phi Phi The Resort is three times as expensive as anywhere else we stayed in Thailand and three times NOT as good!

Phi Phi is good for a day out to say you have seen been and seen, but I would waste money on staying there ever again!

Phi Phi is over crowded, over priced and over rated.

Room Tip: If you must go don't spend more than a day there, its just not worth it!!! Over crowded, Over p...

We rented a deluxe villa and it was great. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning worked great (once we figured out how to leave it on full time). The deck was fabulous and the view was unforgettable.

Long Beach was my favorite part of the island. A bit more secluded, clean and private than some other spots: slightly less of the bohemian, backpacker crowd. Our arrival was a little haphazard. Apparently, the hotel's longtail was not available, so they sent someone else to fetch us. It started pouring rain and the boat dropped us on the beach off about 500 yards from the hotel. Carrying our luggage ourselves on the beach, in the rain, got us off to a bad start, but they quickly made up for it with warm towels, and friendly, polite, unintrusive service throughout the remainder of our stay. The walk to our villa was a bit of a hike up the hill, but the rest of the stay was so relaxing we didn't mind the "exercise." They also have a golf cart to bring you to and fro, and with a couple dollars in tips, they were at the ready any time we hinted at wanting a ride. The food at the restaurant was pretty good. The little beach restaurant next door was much better, however, and cheap to boot.

The walk to town was a fairly easy 15 minute jaunt. The pool was warm and clean. The beach was fantastic - the nicest we saw on the island - with less broken coral and rocks than most. The beach chairs were plentiful. The staff was very accommodating - quickly learning that beachside beers served in a bucket of ice were a big hit with us. The included breakfast was nice. Plenty of variety, some local tastes and some European/American fare to appease tourists. Other reviewers criticized the lack of choices, but I thought it was a pretty big spread considering the size of the hotel and the fact that everything has to be brought to the island by boat.

Tips for Phi Phi: Tipping hotel staff goes a long way, but is not required. It gets you quicker service, stronger drinks and a ready smile. The mosquitos are a real bi*ch. They were especially prevalent near the restaurant area at breakfast and sundown, but it was a near constant battle. As for purchases, EVERYthing is negotiable. If you can't get it for at least half of the first asking price, you're just not trying. Hit Maya Bay either early in the morning or late in the afternoon, to avoid the mass of Phuket tourist boats.

I, like many others on this site, was a little aprehensive after booking the hotel and then reading the reviews, but there was no need for any worries (as usual!). We booked 2 deluxe rooms, my parents in one and myself, husband and 2 small daughters in the other. The views were absolutely, amazingly beautiful!
The first night there was a party in the bar on the beach, and yes, it was extremely noisy. I did contemplate giving up on sleep and joining in, but by the time I had worked out what I might wear to it, it was over (2am). The following night, there was no noise and no problem.
There is a bit of building 'rubble' around, but really, who cares? It is such a beautiful place, the staff were lovely, the food delicious and the rooms were clean, very comfortable and I would go back tomorrow!
Don't be put off by the bad reviews, it's not perfect, but it's close enough!

Room Tip: Book deluxe rooms, if you can, it's further up the hill..less noise, better views
