“quiet and a great little beach!”
Reviewed September 5, 2010

We stayed at the Paradise Resort for 3 nights. As it's on Long Beach it's a lot quieter than around at Tonsai. The beach is great and the hotel is great too.

You get a longtail from Tonsai wharf for 100BHT per person, and they will take you around to Long Beach. The only downside was that there was a cyclone on our last night so we had to walk up the beach and through the jungle to get onto a longtail back to the wharf as they couldn't stop on long beach. The guides helped us with our bags and the walk is only 10 mins.

When we arrived the check in was easy and we got taken straight to our room.
We ate most of our meals at Paradise Pearl hotel next door (1 min walk) which is cheap and the food is awesome, the service was really good, i think that was mainly because it was fairly quiet this time of year but we couldn't fault the service at all. There was a bit of construction around so i think Paradise will have a restaurant soon?
We also went around to Tonsai for dinner which was good, a few good bars also, there is a lot of young people in Tonsai and has a good party atmosphere.

Our room was nice and serviced everyday (Deluxe Beachfront), the bathroom was roomy and clean. We were a bit worried by some of the reviews here but we had no problems, we saw a gecko or 2 but this is normal.

Beware the longtail boats, it was fine for my girlfriend and I to get in and out of, but some people we saw did struggle, and i could imagine older people would have a lot of trouble getting in and out.

Long beach is fantastic and Paradise Resort is a great place to stay to relax, don't pay to much attention to the negative reviews and whingers on here.

If you want to get a bit away from the main tourist spot on the island, Long Beach is a good choice. I didn't have high expectations, after visiting Koh Lanta, Koh Jum, Koh Ngai and Koh Libong, bus was pleasently surprised. The girl who welcomed us was helpful (there was something wrong with our reservation, but this was sorted out) and our bungalow was simple but perfectly okay - and just a few meters from the beach. We ate at the resort next door (Paradise Pearl) which also seemed nice (apart from terrible service at the resturant which we already knew from reading the reviews in here). Yes, it's a 100 B boattrip to the main-port, but it's well worth it to stay a bit away from the crowds.

I thought our four days on Ko Phi Phi were the highlight of our Thailand tour. Well... the last two days were certainly great but that was when we moved our stuff to the neigbour resort Paradise Pearl Resort. We had the most expansive bungalow in Paradise Beach Resort, the view was really great. BUT, no hot shower and cockroaches in the bath room. When we complained about this, the manager said he knows about the cockroaches, but thinks it's 'normal' to have them in 'nature'. Don't waste your money on this place!

I am a fan of Thailand as I love the food, cheap shopping and the people. Hence I usually visit different parts of Thailand twice a year at least.

Of late, my visit to Thailand this year itself (Chiangmai, Chiangrai and Bangkok in Feb and then PhiPhi & Phuket towards end May) was that pleasant as somehow the Thai people were far less friendly. Infact, half of which can be rather rude these days.. I wonder why..

But at, Paradise Resort (next to Paradise Pearl) at Long Beach, Phi Phi it brings back memories of the warm hospitality of the Thai people.

* All the staffs working at the resort were all friendly. Begins with those at the reception desk, the resort manager, the all the masseurs and so on. Whereas its sister resort (next to it -> Paradise Pearl) on the contrary is a direct opposite, though it is supposed to be slightly more expensive. We did not stay at Paradise Pearl but we went there to try out its massage as well as its breakfast to end up coming back with disappointment as generally people working there (the waitresses at the restaurant, the guy at the reception counter , even the masseurs all have attitude problems.

As for Paradise Resort, all I could say is 2 thumbs up!!
We went in a group of 8 girls with 3 rooms (with extra bed in 2 rooms) .
• Room type: Newly built Superior rooms (none beach front).

THE ROOM, rating : 10/10
The newly built rooms were in SUPERB condition.
• New, Very clean indeed!
• HUGEEEE bed
• Simple yet beautiful room deco, with flat screen TV
• With a touch of thotfulness :
i) water for you to wash your feet before stepping into the room ,
ii) very clean floor mat (to dry your wet feet) at the door and outside the bathroom.
iii) Nice chill out area outside the room

Some of my friends find the mattresses too hard though.

It is equivalent to a 4+++ star hotel room (minus the phone & room service)

SERVICE/ HOSPITALITY, rating : 9/10
The staffs were all nice to chat with. You can enquire about anything, even if you don’t buy (the tour package or longtail boat ride) from them.

If not mistaken, this is considered an upper budget accommodation so don’t expect any room service and phone in the room. The only service that they do provide is to help you transport your luggage to your room.

THE SURROUNDINGS
The gardening was very well done with nice flowers and plants.

BOOKING & PAYMENT
The only –ve aspect was they had only 1 method for payments for internet bookings. You have to pay through paypal. I made many attempts, tried signing up with different credit cards, was able to create an account but somehow can’t seem to be able to make the payments. Written to paypal numerous times and made a few calls to their call centers, they were helpless and told me that many of their customers do encounter similar problems and they can’t seem to understand why.

They do not accept payment in any other forms. (Not sure if they do now). In the end, I managed to find a relative in Australia who does have paypal account. She helped make the payment in Aussie dollar but the few conversations (The resort charged in Baht -> my relative paid in AUD$ -> I paid her in Ringgit Malaysia) actually end up costing me more than it should be.

Also, not sure if the person attending to my booking all these while is tired of my emails (since I had troubles making payments even after making many attempts), when I wrote to him a week before we checked in (asking if we could have early check in OR a safe place to store our luggage since we had chartered a private boat) , he did not reply a word though I had resent the message 3 times.

OTHER COMMENTS/ TIPS
• Recommended for Couples and families who enjoy a quiet beach.
• However, the only choice for food was to take a very short walk to Paradise Pearl (just right next to Paradise Resort) and dine at their restaurant. Please be warned of the service which is horribly sucks. We were attended by 4 waitresses out of which 3 have real bad attitude and were rude. We made a complained to the manager and she instantly asked them over and spoke to them. One of the waitresses (a transvestite, no offence) then fought back saying :
“You (pointing at my friend) rude too! You looked at me like that (implying that my friend stared at her rudely which I can testify that it was not true) and then you ‘hahahaha’ ”

I asked “huh? We are here for holiday and we can’t laugh?”.
She ignored my comments and repeated her complaints targeted at my friend 3 times. The manager just said “thank you for telling me” and walked back into the mini mart that she manning. We did not hear a word of apology.

• Basically you will be travelling to the main town, Tongsai a lot. Which is just about 2min ride on long tail boat. You will find at Tongsai plenty of restaurants (both western and local Thai) as well as uncountable number of tour agents.

• Longtail boat to Tongsai should cost about 100 baht per person. But since we were in a group of 8, we managed to bargain for 700 baht for the whole group each trip.

If you are single and doesn’t like the daily travelling in & out of Long Beach by long tail boat and prefers a place with lots of shops, restaurants and bars, and being close by the beach is not your priority, then resorts at Long Beach area will not be suitable for you. You should then opt to stay in Tongsai. There are plenty of nice accommodation, even decent budget ones.

I shall come back again someday..

We booked here as Paradise Pearl was booked and I wanted a beachfront experience. We ceratinly got it! Ocean at our door, amazing views, massages right outside, wee bar with beers and cocktails, kittens to play with... it was fabulous. Long beach is gorgeous, you do have to get there by longboat, but who cares! It's all part of the Thai experience. We had nothing but lovely service from everyone who worked there, and the room was clean and tidy. Simple, but who needs extravagent when you are on Phi Phi??? Only a 2 minute walk down the path to Paradise Pearl's restaurant, and you get breakfast there as part of the package with Paradise resort anyway. I've walked further to a resturant on-site at other resorts. We had a lovely time and have no regrets with our choice.

As far as Long Beach goes, this is a good choice as it is relatively not too expensive but also very nice. However, Long Beach is much better for a day trip than to stay on. It is 100 baht per person just to get there (even though it’s a 2 minute long tail ride) and it’s just a small beach that’s a little bit less busy than the ones on the main part of the island; it’s not even more attractive than them either. There really is no reason to stay overnight there and you will end up paying considerably more for a comparable room than you would on the main section of the already expensive Koh Phi Phi. None of the resorts on Long Beach offer free wifi and there are basically two over-priced restaurants to eat at in the entire area. However, if you do want to stay on Long Beach for a quiet, secluded vacation, then this is the place to stay. We stayed in a newly refurbished bungalow and it was very, very spacious and clean with nice décor and amenities. The shower was great and the bed was huge. Be careful though because we looked at one of the non-refurbished rooms and it looked very run-down, old, and was only 200 baht less than the one we stayed in. Overall, the room was very nice but it's not worth it to stay on Long beach considering the boat transfer and wifi prices and the lack of restaurants and anything to do.

We chose this resort after friends suggestions and experience, despite poor reviews on Tripadvisor. Thank God we went there!!! We stayed at the brand new boungalows, not beach front but four rows behind (only fews steps away from the water). Our boungalow was fantastic, look at the pics.....
The beach is one of the most beautiful on the island and close enough to the main pier and village, only three minutes by long tail boat (any time of the day and night). If you stay in Long Beach, you can enjoy the real phi phi atmosfere..... the night is quiet (whereas the village is very caotic)... the sea and the beach are very clean (in the village swimming is impossible and the water murky, you wouldn't even believe it's thailand). A particular regard to Than and its family who ran the resort, they are amaizingly friendly, good harted people and words would not be enough to tell how good they are!!! price is very good considering what it offers, you would pay the same money for older tipe of accommodation in the main village, you can pay a bit less in long beach for something not even comparable to our bungalow, or quite a bit more for accommodation on the hill at the end of the beach (hopefully you would never need to run to the toilet, otherwise you better get a good work out before!)
