“Heaven on earth, but expect a lot of people around”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

When our speed boatwas approaching the place from Phuket, we were mesmerised by the location and contast of sharp colors at the beach.

Undoubtedly one of the most spectacular beaches in terms of its location and beauty around. Bright turquoise coloured water, white sand and green hilly cliff surrounding it from 3 sides.

A very romantic place indeed if you are with your partner. No doubt why this place was chosen for the location of the shooting of the Movie "The Beach".

But if you want your own space and are expecting a lone time with your partner or family, then visit here during odd hours of the day or visit during off season.

A great place nevertheless.

“Crowded Paradise”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

Maya Bay is a paradise on earth, the only problem is, just like on the film the beach, everyone found out about it and spoilt it!!! I've been twice now and it still takes your breath away, but be prepared for the hundreds of tourists you will have to share it with. The snorkelling isn't very good. All you will see are the thousands of sergeant major fish that have over populated and bullied out all the other fish due to the fact the snorkel operators feed them bread and rice to attract them for the tourists. A truly stunning location that's beauty lured the curse of Hollywood and subsequent downfall. I certainly feel a mix of awe and sadness when I see the combination of beauty tainted with the slight diesel slick from the boats on the water. Top tip, don't waste your time on the beach, walk through to beyond the toilet and keep going, there is a secret bay at the rear of the island, to get to it walk through the natural pool and climb the steps, Its much quieter.

“Beautiful if it weren't for the 30 speedboats & 1,000 tourists crammed on the beach. Myself included!”

Too busy, just about worth a visit but glad we only.stopped for 30 minutes. That was plenty. Tao & Phangan are a better bet if you prefer somewhere more peaceful.

“very very pretty”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

this beach is gorgeous! we went early (8:30 am) and it wasn't too crowded! it is beautiful, but not a very good place for swimming, as there are a lot of corals and it is easy to cut your feet!
