Bay View Resort

I've given this hotel two stars. The first one is for the location, which is away from the noisy bars and the other for the view, which is absolutely stunning.

Sadly, I am echoing what a lot of others have already written about Bay View. Having read the negative press before booking, I was aware of what I was getting myself in for, however over the Easter weekend, we were not spoilt for choice so we sucked it up and booked anyway.

You enter the hotel via long boat, which I think is quite cool. Upon arrival at the resort, we were greeted by utter chaos at reception and a hotel that looked absolutely nothing like the pictures on the internet.

After getting off the boat, we hauled ourselves up the beach to reception to explain we were checking in. None of the check in staff spoken English and despite being told our room would be ready in 30 minutes, we were left waiting and waiting without any update or communication. When we asked about the room and when it would be available, we were just grunted at while the reception staff continued to answer the phones and shout at each other. There was a lot of shouting going on - at guests as well.

We had to "choose" the room first, being lead up and down the many hills in the searing heat. We chose the cleanest one that was closest to the reception. I would suggest anyone reading this does the same.

The room looked clean but upon further inspection, it was not. The toilet gave off the most awful stench and as others have written, if you want hot water, you need to keep the air con on around 30 mins at 18 degrees. The sheets were also embedded with sand.

The pool area is OK but the water is filthy and warm like a bath but I suspect you'll get this anywhere on Phi Phi. The shock is that the pictures on the net make it look like the pool overlooks the ocean. It does not, it looks over some bungalows and a few bins.

We were only here for one night and I was glad of it.

We went on honeymoon. The hotel is in a great location: 5 minutes walking from phi phi village & island peer, but far enough to be in a peaceful area, you cant beleive that there is such a paradise that close to the village. Our room was excelent, the best view ever, very clean, with a quite big terrace. Breakfast very good. You have a couple of baches to go in 2 minutes walking, altough the water comes and goes, but if you arrive late to phiphi, or leave early so you cant get a tour, it is ok to spend a few hours on that beaches. The pool is big altough the it is in the middle of the jungle, no sea view from there.

Room Tip: We were on room 110, I guess all the "100s" rooms have the same EXCELLENT view

The hotel is a very good option if you want to eat the best dishes on the beach! Considering that you are in an island with poor resources, you can not find the same level than in the continent. The rooms are a little old, the bathroom is the worst part, however you have other good points as: the swimingpool is ok and you have to do a massage there. The food at the restaurant is excellent, try it. The night barbecue with fishes and so on is a very good option for you to have dinner on the beach. Its not so close to the downtown anyway its fine to walk a little to go there, so you can take a look on the island.

As you can see by reviews of any accommodation on Phi Phi it's more expensive than other places in Thailand and the standard you receive is less.

This hotel is on Ton Sai but far enough away from the music and clubs. Great location with a great spot on the beach for dining of having a drink at night (food was good and reasonably priced too). Friendly staff and nice breakfasts.

We stayed in a bungalow with a sea view. All are up a slight hill and surrounded by trees but the view is as nice as straight on to the beach.

The bathrooms in the bungalows are a little tired.

Electric on the island I believe is by generator and there may be no water source so don't be surprised if the water is a little off colour from the taps etc. This may mean you are not going to get pristine white bedding and towels and some of the linens are also pretty tired but everything is clean.

A nice beach bungalow resort, comfortable and very good value for money. We had a bungalow at the top of the hill which was a bit of a pain but kept us fit during our stay and wish we had requested a sea view. Basic rooms but very clean. We stayed here for 3 nights and found our stay quite enjoyable.

Room Tip: Avoid the bungalows at the top of the steep hill, ask for something closer to the reception.

We booked a Delux Villa and got A101, it was a semi-detached bungalow with only partly sea views and the balcony was next to crossing paths to the other villas, no luxurious feeling. We had the impression that some of the other delux villas had nicer views and more privacy. However, for a short stay one doesn't spend munch time in the room here and it was not of major importance. The staff is ok, but don't know anything about service. We heard no sorry when they could not provide (sell) drinking water or beach towels before we set off on a three our long boat trip. Our second day the water in our room turned out very brown, no sorry or excuses, and we couldn't even wash our hands for a whole day. Nice service from the long tail boat guys next to the restaurant on the beach. We booked boat rides two times (1500 -1800 THB for three hours), would recommend snorkelling at the beautiful Mosquito Island, if going to the Bamboo Island remember that you have to pay 200 THB pr. pers. for entrance fees). The trip around Leh Island is also nice, however, even if we were there early, the Maya Beach was crowded as some tourist companies arrange overnight trips to the beach, sad, however, there were other beautiful bays to see on this island. Sadly, most of the corals are dead around the islands, but we saw enough colourful fish, muray eels and small sharks. The hotel has a good location as you can have a nice walk to the centre of the island in 10-15 min (there are ATMs, bank and pharmacy) we experienced both nice, but also unfriendly attitudes in the village, crowded at mid day. In the other direction from the Bayview it’s possible to walk to the more crowded Long Beach (not so nice to see the garbage at the end of Long Beach, we also saw several tourist just leaving their garbage behind as they left the beach???). We would recommend a walk towards Long Beach at low tide, nice to walk along the low tide beaches and in between the small beaches walk on beautiful stones and jump from stone to stone before reaching Long Beach, and on the way home walk through the more jungle-like path, the path is partly lighted when it gets dark (the first slope from Long Beach is a short, but rather steep part of the path).
The food, including breakfast, in the restaurant of Bayview, was more than ok to our taste. The music in the social areas, including the reception areas (the only free Wi-Fi area) was often too loud and not of our taste (terrible covers). The free WiFi was very unstable. After all we had a nice and recommendable 3/4 days stay here, it all depends on expectations, purpose and what one compare it to.

We arrived here and stayed here 3 nights while in Phi Phi Islands. We were quite impressed with the view from the beach. It was beautiful. The sand on the beach is nice but to go into the water is a bit rocky. The hotel had plenty of chairs, umbrellas and these pillow things to lay on at the beach. It is a bit of a walk to the bungalow but we are pretty young so not a huge problem. The bungalow itself was spacious. The bathroom seemed a bit dated but not a huge issue. The balcony overlooking the water was quite nice.

Breakfast selection was pretty good, had a lot of Thai food and Western breakfast selections to pick from. We ate lunch here twice while relaxing on the beach and the food was quite good but not super cheap. The salmon and mango appetizer is fantastic as well as their mango shakes (best we had in all of Thailand). The walk into town is a bit long but you can walk along the beach which is nice. The fire show was suprisingly really cool, a definite while you stay.
