Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort
Ranked #2 of 39 Hotels in Ko Phi Phi Don
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 4, 2013

My partner and I stayed here in the last part of our holiday. No amount of looking at pictures can prepare you for the sheer beauty of this place!
We got a ferry boat from the Nopparat pier in Krabi which took you too Tonsai Bay in Phi Phi. From there walk towards the end of the pier where members of staff from Outrigger (they will be wearing a uniform with outrigger on it) will meet you and load your bags onto a long boat. The long boat will then take you to your hotel. Its about a 20 minute boat ride which is an excellent experience within its self! On arrival at the hotel we were given a lovely iced coconut drink, and a voucher for a drink and snack as our hotel room wasn't quite ready.
We stayed in a superior bungalow which didn't disappoint! Very clean, free bottled water and the air con was lovely and cool! The staff here where fantastic and helpful when needed, although me and my partner didnt really have any problems!
The island however is pretty secluded and there isn't much of a night life at the hotel. If you walk to end of the beach (by the coconut grill) and follow the sand path to the little village behind the hotel where there is a lovely beach bar with a great owner and a fantastic little restaurant called Oasis..we stayed in Phi Phi for 4 nights and ate there every night with no problems and the food was just brilliant!
We hired bikes one morning and cycled to the gypsy village and around that end of the island, we planned to cycle to Tonsai but this isnt possible. We also planned to walk over to tonsai but the path wasnt very safe so we booked a long tail taxi boat (200 bht each way per person), however I found Tonsai ruined the ambience of the island as it was quite busy and touristy. I had a massage at the hotel, the prices were pretty expensive (1500 bht) but whole experience was fantastic, from the free cold tea at the beginning, to the room the massage was in, to the therapist! Right down to the hot tea and biscuits at the end. I did also have a foot massage next to tunas restaurant and bar from the village at the back of the hotel. This was only 400 bht and lasted an hour and was also lovely!
On our last day was the only time we had a small issue at this hotel. Whilst waiting for the boat to take us to Phuket, we ordered some food, which took a very long time to come, I had to ask the waitress after 40 mins as we were in a rush to get our boat! They brought our food which had obviously been sat out for awhile was the chips were cold, salad was withered and the mayo on the bun of the burger had seperated. Once we spoke to a waitress though they were fantastic and tried to offer us new food for free but we had to catch our boat so they gave us our drinks for free. Very good service all round apart from this one very small issue.
I would highly recommend this place as its just such a lovely hotel and area, the pool was great too. The grounds are very well kept and all staff you pass are extremely polite. I hope to visit this hotel again! Loved every minute (even with the bad food before our departure!)
OH and the breakfast was amazing!!!!!!

This is our second time visiting this resort however we last visited 2009 when it was under different ownership. We never visit the same place twice but Phi Phi Village holds a special place in our memory.

Now under Outrigger ownership the resort is just as beautiful. Wonderfully maintained grounds, bungalows are clean and 4-5 star thai quality - Despite some natural aging they are perfectly maintained. Flowers and tropical trees surround a picturesque beach with the turquoise water you dream of at Koh Phi Phi.

Some changes; there's a small village behind the resort that makes the place that much more special in our eyes. It is still very remote and the resort is particularly quiet but having the option to go explore the tiny village, eat some more affordable local cuisine and have a drink in a more traditional Thai setting is a bonus for us. This small village made up for some changes we found disappointing. Outrigger still has personal touches but the only one that sticks out now is the recycled a/c water. :-/ they used to have homemade soaps and a turn-down service, bug spray provided, hand embroidered towels etc. The saddest disappointment is that the staff isn't all smiles any more. Don't get me wrong. They're still perfectly friendly but they don't seem happy, comfortable and as genuine as they once were. Perhaps Im remembering it wrong but something that stuck out to me before was just how proud they were of their resort last time. Under new ownership they seem to have lost some soul and the attentiveness is not what one would expect of a 4 star resort. They're seem too busy following guidelines to feel comfortable in their own skin. We had to ask 4x to have our water replenished. 3x for the fridge to be stocked and its still empty. It's small stuff really... and definitely not a reason not to come back. We've just been spoiled but such wonderful genuineness throughout our many trips to Thailand, (most if which were in more boutique type hotels...) we've just become used to it.

We opted to stay at the Outrigger for 2 nights, rather than do the day trip from Phuket thing. Definately reccomend staying here! You need to arrange tailboat transfer before you arrive at Tonsai, and they will be there waiting for you when you arrive. It costs 200B per person for the transfer, but a minimum of 4 people... so you will always pay 800b for the trip! (Even though they still add more people into the boat?) The rooms were lovely, and bed very comfortable. No internet in the room which was a bit of a pain... you do get free wifi but have to go to the lobby or one of the resorts restaurants to use it. The food was ok... nothing really special and sometimes lack of English from the staff made comminication a little difficult... but its hard not to give this resort 5 stars as it is stunning, and the staff try hard! We organised a day trip sightseeing and snorkelling around the Islands, was a great trip! Be sure to check out the village at the back of the resort at night, good place to have a drink!

I stayed here in September 2013 and it was amazing. We stayed for 2 nights and it was no where near long enough. It is the perfect hotel for honeymooners so beautiful and romantic. The hotel has the most amazing views. The water is bright aqua and the sand is so clean and a beautiful shade of white. The staff are very friendly and the welcome drink is delicious. Happy hour is great, buy one get one free who could complain with that. The food at Marlin Restaurant was perfect both nights and the breakfast is also good, lots of options for everyone. There are long tail boats waiting on the beach to take you anywhere you want to go and the hotel has many different tour options for you to choose from, it caters to everyone young and old. Only problem is it is a half hour away from the main village, but let me tell you you are not missing much. The main village Tonsai village is small, with little to see, so the location of the hotel was not a problem in the end. The water is amazingly warm to swim in, and if your not a fan of the sea there is always the beautiful infinity pool. Behind the outrigger is a small little village with a little supermarket if you need to pick up toiletries or snack foods, there is even a small hairdressing salon in the village. Just past the village is a viewpoint which apparently is quite spectacular. The rooms at the hotel are very spacious, as are the bathrooms. Very comfortable to stay in. We stayed in the deluxe garden bungalow which was just what we needed for three people. I loved the fact they are little bungalows as well, it gives you a whole different hotel experience compared to your average stock standard room in a hotel, with noisy guests next door. This hotel has it all though. I have travelled quite extensively and this is by far my favourite, I am desperate to return. It exceeded my expectations, and waking up and having breakfast with a view was something pretty special. I urge you to stay here its worth the money.

We stayed here at the end of our trip for 3 nights and it was just amazing. this resort is beautiful beyond words.. the beach is the BEST beach in Ko phi phi. We spent our time laying on the beach or at the pool which has a little Bar in the middle (happy hour everyday from 17:00). we drank Pina colada like crazy : ) so good..
We booked a standard room without the breakfast so when we checked in they offered us the breakfast for 460 B instead of 550 per person if you sign up for this upon check in. we didn't took it but our friends did and really enjoyed it- large selection of food. The food and drinks at the resort are very pricey but you can go to the village behind the resort which has lots of restaurants and bars- try Pad Thai for dinner or Oasis for breakfast. We did ate lunch at the resort so i can say that for the entire 3 days stay all the extras (food and a lot of drinks) cost us like another extra night so it's not too bad..
We loved the little village behind the resort- you can book trips from there and massages for a lot cheaper than the Outrigger.
To get there just walk on the small road between Centre bar and Marlin restaurant- you need to get to the back of the Outrigger resort- It's an easy 5 minutes walk.
The Outrigger location is breath taking and it is on the quiet side of Ko phi phi which makes it even better. from the main pier it's 20-25 min with a taxi boat so i wouldn't recommend it for people who wants to be closer to the center. if you want some peace and quiet and an amazing beach this is the place for you.
We would come back again in a heart beat.. pure Heaven!

The hotel is gorgeous, it's rated 5 star and we can see why but it's a 20 minute long tail boat trip away from the main area - Tonsai Bay. This place is for honeymooners and people who want to keep themselves away from the main bars, hotels, beach parties and restaurants. The cost of travel between here and the main area is so expensive and they massively rip you off. It's approx 2000 baht per round trip per boat to the main area and for every additional hour that they wait for you (after 4 hours) it's an extra 300 baht. They also add 10 percent service and 7 percent vat on EVERYTHING. For those who want to be close to everything and have plenty of choice on where to stay and where to eat, then don't stay here. For those who want just to be in the resort and spa and happily spend all their time here it's perfect. But come with a lot of cash as it is expensive.
