Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort

Man am I happy we decided, based on Trip Advisor reviews, to spend the last days of our southeast Asia vacation at the beautiful Outrigger!! While the place is certainly not easy to get to (once you get to the island of Ko Phi Phi Don via the main port at Tonsai you have to take another boat to the east side of the island just to get to the resort) it was worth it. The grounds are very spread out but immaculately groomed and our beach hut (#212) was just fantastic. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, truly one of the most spectacular I have ever seen as the water is crystal clear and there sand is perfect powder white. The infinity pool is another great place to relax. A few words of advice: definitely check out Pad Thai, the restaurant located in Phi Phi Island Village, which is just behind the on-resort Marlin restaurant. (If you need directions to the village, someone at the front desk can help guide you.) The food at Pad Thai was better than anything we had at the Outrigger. The on-site restaurant food and all items in the gift shop, etc are priced way higher than most of Thailand so be warned. We spent a few hours one night listening to live music at the Centre Bar; while the setting was nice the drinks the bartender served were horrendous. We booked a half day snorkel trip through the hotel & it was fine, we wound up at most of the hot spots along with tons of other tour boats so that was a bit disappointing but it was still a good day. All of the staff we interacted with were very nice and eager to assist. Know that on the day of your departure, they really do want you off the resort as early as possible. We had to catch a 5pm flight on Phuket and they had advised us to take the 7:30 or 8am boat to Tonsai, which made no sense. In the end, after quite a bit of confusion, we took the 2pm speedboat directly to Phuket and it worked out fine.

The Outrigger was the perfect place to end our Asia holiday.

My family and I stayed at this resort for 6 nights following a long stay in Phuket. We chose this resort for it's isolation and quiet locale. There were many amazing things about our visit. The Outrigger boat from Ao Po Grand Marina was easy and cool; our two small daughters were even able to have a nap. The welcome could not have been lovelier with chilled coconut drinks and cold towels. Check in was fast and easy and Joom, our hostess for our stay was sweet and competent. We stayed at one of the hillside villas, mostly because with 2 children we were unable to book anything smaller. The rooms were great and so was the view, but it was a 2 level suite with stairs on the outside close to the pool. Not very convenient with 2 small kids. It's probably a bonus for families with older kids, but you cannot hear between the rooms. One of us just usually ended up sleeping downstairs in the kids' room. The pool was great - clean, and large enough for families and people who didn't want to be splashed by children. Food was a bit better than okay. Ruan Thai is very nice, in a lovely building but I'm sure better Thai food can be found elsewhere for a fraction of the price. Like everywhere else in Thailand, wine selection is expensive and very limited. My big issue with the resort was the gouging on the babysitting services. At $20/hour for a staff member to look after the girls it would be nice if they knew at least minimal English. It ended up being fine, but I don't even pay that much in Canada. Also, at one point during our stay I was trying to arrange transfer back to Phuket and I was told that the boat was full. No other options were offered. Granted, communication with the front desk person was difficult as her English was limited, but after getting a bit frustrated I ended up talking to Joom and she straightened it out for us. Everyone else working at the resort was friendly and always ready with a smile. I highly recommend renting a long tail boat and going out snorkelling - that was AMAZING. This property is truly lovely and with a few tweaks it could be perfect.

My husband has food allergies and I emailed the staff ahead of time to inform them. The food & beverage manager met with us and assured us that her staff had the list. Indeed they did - it was nice not to have to repeat all the allergies and they were all very thorough. The property, bungalow, pool and restaurants were all great. We were really impressed and thankful for the 3 nights we had here. We were finally able to get some sleep.

The only thing that I can complain about is the cost of the transfer from Tonsai Pier. The hotel should just include the transfer to/from the hotel in the room rate. There is really no other way of getting to the resort without getting on a long tail boat so why hassle your guests with another (roughly) 7USD per person. The perception that the transfer is "free" will go a long way.

This is a wonderful wonderful resort that is fabulous if you are on a romantic break. Fantastic villas made of wood are beautifully laid out and set far enough apart from each other so that you can drop all your inhibitions in them. The villas are laid out about 30-40 mts away from the water so you are only ever a short walk away from the sea.

One of us has a phobia of creepy crawlies so the hotel staff would cheerfully accompany us when we walked at night to or from our villa or the main building. If you are looking for a place where you can go for long walks along the trails within the hotel property or on the beach, or if you want to go snorkelling, kayaking in the sea, etc, this place is great.

Great breakfast with exotic fruits in addition to the usual buffet suspects were the perfect start to the day. There were great restaurants in the property however if you want to find other dining options, you may not have much luck.

Since you are going to be on an island, be aware that there is a 45 min boat ride from Phuket that one needs to take to get to the island. The day we went out the water was choppy and most people on the ferry were looking really green! So make sure you carry motion sickness medicine especially if there are children in your party. Also carry fluids with you on the ferry because it may be very hot and mixed with motion sickness, it could get you down for a few hours.

On the whole this is a holiday I would do again in a heartbeat!

We stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms and everything about this hotel is beautiful, including the pool! The only thing is that it was so quiet, so ideal if you want a peaceful break but if you want something/anything going on in the evening the actual hotel isn't that kind of place. BUT........Behind the hotel is a village, we discovered this on our 2nd day and once discovered we didn't eat or drink in the hotel at night. The food in the village was amazing, the bars fun and actually had people in them! Try the Mint Restaurant, very good.

The location of the hotel is secluded on its own private beach, this means if you want to sample some of phi phi nightlife it makes the village behind your only option as longboats to the port would be 1500-2000 thb one way after dark....

My rating is lower on this hotel as although the hotel was lovely it was too dull in the evenings, there is so much potential. As a couple in early 30's we don't want to be somewhere mental but this place had nothing. However if you want a quiet break this would be ideal for you.

Room Tip: All the room types were beautiful and a good size, sounds obvious but only the beach front suites re...

We were collected from the marina in Phuket by the hotel boat and had a wonderful hour and half boat trip to Phi Phi, arriving right in front of the hotel. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service, staff, accomodation - everything actually - were just what we were hoping they would be, fantastic!

Room Tip: If you like to sit on your balcony and have a view, I suggest booking accommodation with a beach/sea...

I stayed here for 1 night as I was travelling from Phuket to Krabi. The hotel is in a secluded spot on the island, so this is perfect if you want to get away from it all. My experience was that the staff were superb and extremely welcoming and friendly. Really, they couldn't do enough for you. The beach is very beautiful and you can get those great holiday pictures that make it look like you we're the only people on the beach! For dinner, we had the Thai buffet which delicious and compared to any other report I have stayed out outside if Thailand it was very cheap.
