“You get what you paid for (Dorm with Fan)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

Where did I stay? Dorm (w Fan)
How long did I stay? 1 Night
What did I pay? ~ 250 THB

The room and beds are simple. Some mattresses didn't look that good anymore but mine was fine. There was no sign of bedbugs/cockroaches whatsoever.. They have plenty mosquitoes but every bed had a mosquito net for that.

The outside area is quite nice and clean. The WiFi works pretty good and you can recharge your stuff inside the dorm. The showers are cold but OK and they offer lockers for your valuables.

If you just want to stay here for 2-3 days for snorkeling/diving its a good cheap place.

--

The people that are complaining about this place probably don't realize that other places on this island are much more expensive or even worse. I had a quick look at two different low budget places (the rock and some guesthouse). These were far worse than this and still more expensive.

Yes there were a lot of mosquitoes but there are a lot on the island. I'm sure there would just be as many where ever you stayed. Free wifi and security lockers are available and you can either stay in a dorm room or beach hut. The beach huts were simply mattresses on the floor with mosquito nets over them, but that is all we really needed. They're very close to the beach and bars which was great for us, however that did make them noisy, but if you're worried about sound pollution then don't go to phi phi! There was quite a bit of rain during my stay and the area around the bungalows did flood, as did the streets. I think that flower bungalows would be better when there aren't rain showers.

Lots of mossies, lots of noise at night and the cottages are extremely bare bones. If you don't care where you sleep, don't mind mosquito bites and just want a mattress to crash on after a night of drinking, then this is the place for you. If you're at all picky or need some amenities like a table, chair, drawer, hanger, bedframe or a clean bathroom, then you should look elsewhere. The music from nearby clubs kept us up until 4 AM the first night and 7 AM the second night. Neither of those is an exaggeration in the slightest.

Room Tip: If you insist on staying here you may as well stay in the AC dorm since it comes with AC and I assum...

As experienced travellers of South East Asia on a budget, my girlfriend and I are perfectly used to the occasional poor experience in regards to a hostel and rarely feel the need to complain. However Flower Bungalows went the extra mile to make our experience as horrific as possible. Arriving on the back of a long boat journey, we stepped into the port and attempted to find where we needed to go, but no one knew where it was! So walking through with numerous heavy bags in 38 degree heat was a poor start. Yet on arrival we were told in an incredibly rude manner that she had given away our RESERVED room as they had overbooked. Essentially, as we didn't pay an online deposit (as booking.com don't require it) they decided to give our room away. If that wasn't bad enough, the member of staff was beyond rude and seemed not to care that us and apparently 9 others were, at this point, homeless on a small and already over-populated island. She dared us, actually dared us, to write a poor review. Well here it is. I seriously recommend avoiding Flower Bungalows and finding anywhere else. Anywhere.

Room Tip: Many places are not on any websites, so don't panic about booking a room in advance and just loo...

I don't have a problem with the huts being very basic, a nice little wooden hut with a matress on floor and a functioning bathroom is all I really need. The Wifi worked well, the staff very helpful and located in a nice location. The hammoocks outside are cute and nice to relax in (apart from the problem below).

My only problem with this one is a big one though, bugs everywhere. I know we are in Thailand but I have not yet been somewhere with the sheer amount of ants, flys and mosquitos. I have come away with more bites in 2 days than Ive had in the last 2 weeks in Thailand, big ones too. We used the mosquito net and bug spray but it really didn't seem to work against the numbers they had.

Its probably worth paying a little extra somewhere else.
