Cute hotel in a great location

Review of PP Insula
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 22, 2012via mobile
You could not hear the party scene at night. It was close to the beach (just a five to 7 minute walk to the nice beach where you rent the chairs and kayaks). There is no breakfast provided but you have so many restaurant options close by and a local restaurant just in front of the hotel. We liked the chic decor of our room. The beds were comfy. It's good value for your money especially in the low season. The staff were very friendly and helpful!

Very straightforward check-in (NB - they take 1000 bhat as a deposit), staff were all very friendly.

You need to take your shoes/flip flops off in the lobby before going up to the rooms, but this is pretty standard for most places in Phi Phi.

The rooms are very clean and have a fridge (with new bottled water supplied each day), TV (with about a million channels), as well as air-con and free wifi (which both work pretty quick) and a decent shower. There’s a small balcony, our view wasn’t exactly picturesque but it’s good to be able to have a bit of outdoor space for drying towels and spraying toxic insect repellent.

I’d hazard this is probably the best guesthouse on phi phi, it’s a little more expensive than others but still a bit of a bargain considering the standard and perfect if you’re looking for fairly cheap accommodation but don’t want to rough it.

It’s about half way between the port and beach, which means everything’s in easy access and you’re still able to escape the noise after hours. There were no free rooms during the time we were there so I’d recommend booking ahead.

This was my fifth trip to Phi Phi and I wanted somewhere is the village that was of a good standard and reasonably priced. This place certainly delivered on both. Everything worked as ot should do and overall I was happy with my stay.

I do know that this place and the Ivory next door are almost always full. As such I would be surprised if you could turn up without a booking. Furthemore the best rooms are at the front overlooking the village which will always have a high demand-so first come first served.

Only Agoda had this on the net and then it gets booked up very quickly.

Room tip: Rooms at the front overlooking village- but you'll be lucky to get one

we just left the PP insula after a 2 day stay in Koh Phi Phi. it is about a 5 min walk from the pier, and like other posters have mentioned, make sure you know where you are walking to, because you can end up wandering around in the heat.
the price was right for the room. it was clean, comfy, wi-fi worked well and the shower head was nice! lots of power. Front desk wasnt too helpful. they dont recommend anything and when asked how long the walk would be to Long Beach he said 20 mins. Ok, so we head out, planning to walk there and taking a longboat back. It was not 20 mins, and def not a "walk". it was more of a trek and about 40 mins. dont get me wrong it was a nice trek and lovely, but not an easy one and it should be informed to guests that it isnt a breezy walk. Anyways, i digress.
Enjoy!!

We arrived at PP Insula at the end of October. Since it was low season, it was easy to book even we did it a few days prior to our stay. It is indeed more expensive than the equivalent you would find elsewhere in Thailand, but it's Koh Phi Phi, everything is more expensive. We didn't feel cheated for paying what we did!

Don't forget to have a look at the map indicating it's location before you arrive for the first time as we had forgotten to do so and got lost wandering the many small streets of Koh Phi Phi! It's really close the the pier (2-3 minute walk) and close to everything as Koh Phi Phi is such a small island.

Check in was simple and fast. Room was very clean, had a king size bed and a balcony. Our view was of the alleyway in the back, but it was still nice to be able to go outside! A/C worked perfectly. The guy at the front desk wasn't very talkative, but did say hello/bye each time we'd walk in/out.

Location was really great here. Step out of the guesthouse and you're standing in front of the all the street food vendors. The one directly in front of the guesthouse has really amazing and cheap food (you will see an area where you can sit and eat). Everything is cooked fresh to order, they have delicious shakes, we ate there more than once! Try the basil chicken, it was so tasty. Service was friendly too. There's a family mart next door, so it's easy to get quick food or refreshments. Also have a kind of supermarket and fruit stands right there. Beach is a 5 minute walk away. It's location is great, and is not directly in the bar area, so it's not noisy of people partying throughout the night. Breakfast isn't included, but there are a few bakeries near by. You could also grab a 20BT (~0.65$US) pad thai in one of the street vendors, if you don't mind eating that in the morning!

As we walked throughout the island, PP Insula definitely looked cleaner than most of the guesthouses there. It is a very quiet place to stay at, and you aren't allowed to have guests up in your room, so no parties going on in the rooms. You also get a security key, so when they lock the main door after 7pm, you need that key to get in. Felt very safe knowing not anyone could randomly enter during the night.

I would definitely stay here again!

Made the mistake of arriving on Phi Phi on the last boat of the day with no where planned to stay. After walking around for about 3 hours (no lie) trying to find somewhere not disgusting, we thought we were going to have to sleep on the beach. However, we stumbled on this place and I'm so glad we did. Its a bit pricier than a lot of places on Phi Phi and they dont do any discounts for low season (think it was 1250 baht a night) but the rooms were clean and it was the only place we looked at that I felt like i wouldn't catch a disease from the bed sheets! The room was really nice and clean. The staff were really good as well and let us leave them little notes each night to request to stay another day. We ended up staying 5 nights in total. At first we had planned to stay there one night and find somewhere cheaper but we got so comfortable we were happy to pay the price. Its also safe as you are given a key card for the front door, which is locked at night time. The only downside was that our balcony was facing the corridor of the next hotel and an alleyway, but then again, we had a balcony!
