“Back to nature...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014

My wife and I honeymooned here, we were in a very impressive large treehut (room) with an isolated beach not five minutes away from our room. We were a twenty minute walk from the shopping centre. The resort is located in a quiet area, a lovely relaxing place. The restaurant food service isn't brilliant, you might want to double check that they understand your order before they leave - very few good English speakers. The resort seems to cater to backpackers mostly. The room experienced frequent blackouts during our stay.

We enjoyed a lovely tour of Phi Phi Island, the highlight was the snorkeling and monkey island. We opted for the six hour tour which by the end of the day (in the heat) is a long time to spend on a long tail.

We got a tiny room that our bags barely fit. No ac just a fan so it got pretty hot specially in the morning. The beach in front is very quiet and beautiful, if you want to remain there it's very good, however if you need to get into town often for eating or catching boats it's quite a walk like 20min so better to find one closer. The security is not that good they are very specific on not wing responsible for any loss and the lock to the room is just a regular lock and old.. So if you have expensive things not the place to be.

We considered warnings from experienced travelers to avoid this island altogether but wanted to see Phi Phi Lei for ourselves and also read the snorkelling would be good there. So, we booked 2 nights, which seemed like the minimum necessary to allow for travel to/from and a day trip around Maya Bay. It was the worst place we stayed on our 2 week vaca in Thailand, the island as well as the hotel. We felt like cattle arriving on the pier. The hotel gives free transfers from the pier but the boat driver made a group of us wait about a half an hour, in the heat, with our bags, for other visitors to get there (he could have brought the 6 of us to the hotel and came back for them in that time). Checking into the hotel, again, made us feel like cattle, took about 45 minutes. We got a "deal" on Agoda so weren't expecting a great room but after walking 10 minutes past the back path by the beaten up staff quarters and piles of trash, including broken toilets, we were given a cabana with a view of our neighbors septic system, hardly any screened windows (no AC), and no breeze as it was set between other cabanas and a hill, off the water. After a 10 minute walk back to the reception, in 90 degree weather, with our bags, without speaking a word the receptionist knowingly called the manager over. He tried to sell us another cabana but then gave us a free upgrade. The cabana we got had a great view but still lacked airflow. We had to call to have staff to change the sheets and pillow cases because they were visibly filthy. Not just stained, dirty. I couldn't pinpoint the taste of the shower water (just from licking my lips) but it was GROSS. poop or rust I'm not sure. The food was terrible, the worst I experienced in Thailand or anywhere else for awhile, so be sure to schedule your meals well because you are a boat ride/ 15 minute walk from other restaurants. The location was pretty ideal, though, being a walk or 3 minute boat ride from all the restaurants but far enough away to avoid crowds and get your own private beach. You still get the CONSTANT noise of boats passing by. If we were to spend more time, we would probably go for a hotel on the east or north side of the island but as we passed that area on our day trip there seemed to be a lot of boats up there too. Really, for Phi Phi, this probably isn't a bad hotel, probably better than average. I definitely wouldn't stay in the gross town, and Long Beach was no nicer than our own private beach. So 3 stars for location, the free upgrade, and the one guy in the restaurant who even attempted to bring us the correct food. No matter where you stay get ready for piles of trash (even on resort grounds no one takes responsibility), murky puddles, rancid smells and CROWDS. I would opt for just a day trip to Phi Phi Lei from Lanta or Krabi. p.s. the travel guy at this hotel is unacommodating, rude, useless. Wasted our time.

Absolutely loved this hotel! The design is brilliant and unique. It has its own beach and jungle trail to another beach. It is also possible to access Phi Phi main party area. Huge bungalows with hammocks on the balcony. It really is a nature resort. Fantastic for a relaxing holiday! We were very very close to changing our itinerary in order to spend a bit more time in this resort. This would be my choice for my next stay in Phi Phi. Highly highly recommend. Although people with disabilities or problem with walking be aware, this is not a place for you unfortunately. Also there are no aircons in the room.

Room Tip: I am sure every room is excellent and uniquely designed.

This place is absolutely fantastic. Has it's own beach, super friendly staff & the freshest seafood.
The bungalows & rooms are set out over a large area & next time I would ask for something a bit closer to reception & the beach. All the good reviews on trip adviser were true!! Not for everyone but perfect for us.

Room Tip: As for a room close to beach & reception to save a walk up the hill.

Viking Natures resort is about 20 minutes walk from the town. We had a traditional rooms which is pleasant and had all the things you need (a fan, no AC) and a private terrace with nice view over the bay. Depending at which site of the peninsula you have your bungalow you might hear some party noise from town. Snorkeling in front of the beaches is not worth trying. Restaurant food is oke but certainly not special although the offer free tasting every evening at seven. Be there at seven otherwise its taken and no or little refill. There is free transport with a longtail to and from town. Less nice is the building activities on the site so expect to see quite some rubbish lying around. Although Phi Phi has almost no scooters or cars the all day traffic (from 6 till midnight) from longtails and other speedboats does create an awful lot of noise, giving the impression of living near an airport. Very disappointing for such a beautiful spot

Beautiful location on stunning beach. Quite a long walk to the traditional room we stayed in, and not a very nice walk! Our hut was next to a noisy generator unfortunately. However room was cool even with just a fan. Hammock was brilliant! No running water for 2 days and reception man was very rude but location made up for it, though lots of boat noise. Really good day trip to maya beach!
