“Perfect for living at Tonsai”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

Just stayed two days to discover Tonsai before sailing to Holiday Inn (still at Phi Phi).
Perfect place to stay in Tonsai in the end of the beach but also quiet.
Very friendly staff helping you all you want... almost. The help you to the boat after staying but don't get you at boat at arrival. Had to walk about 1 km (10-15 min) on a dusty/sandy road with heavy suitcases. No taxies or cars to help on Phi Phi!
Nice clean rooms and okay breakfast. No pool but clean beach.
The "city" is very dirty and we would not like to stay in that mess and noise and we happy to choice Mama Beach.
Remember to take the tough and long way to the Phi Phi View. Take about 30 min from Mama.
You will not regret it! Beautiful view.
We love Phi Phi... but not Tonsai.

I really enjoyed the stay with family here this month. A friendly, efficient and well run hotel in a good location on the beach.
Rooms: modern, clean, well equipped with safe, tea/coffee facility, air-conditioning, fan, nice shower room & toilet.
Wifi: excellent coverage across the hotel.
Food: excellent breakfast with cereals, freshly cooked eggs, fresh juice, fresh croissant and pain au chocolat, toast, tea, coffee, fruit plate. Very friendly waiting staff. Lunch menu is vast with Thai and Western options at good value for money prices. Evening meal is very special, on the sun-deck next to the beach. Wonderful!
Service: it is sometimes a challenge to separate the starter course from being delivered at the same time as the main course but make it clear and it is no problem. Baggage service is great to and from the pier for the ferry.
Facilities: no pool but as the hotel is right on the beach and the water is warm and clean this is not a problem. Sunbathing deck is great although some additional sun-shades would be a welcome addition. Massage is also good.
An super place, and I fully recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: go for a room that looks over the garden and towards the sea.

My partner and I stayed at Mamas for 3 days and were not disappointed. After a ferry ride from Rassada port with Amandaman ferry (not great) we were met by a Mamas staff member to help carry our bags. On arriving we checked in easily and were taken to our room (B6) great views of the Beach and residence.

Our first day we spent exploring the island and bit of shopping. After a lengthy session of relaxing on the great decks and some cocktails from Mamas Cliff Bar, we had dinner at Mamas restaurant. A good restaurant and recommend getting a spot on one of the decks on the waters edge.

The second day the Mamas staff suggested a day long boat tour with Arisa tour company. They take you to all the great spots, Maya bay, Bamboo Island and a great sunset on the west side of the island. Tour includes lunch and drinks all day, some good local advice on snorkel sights and friendly and helpful staff.

We capped off our visit with a great dinner on the beach. Staff were always helpful, wifi worked well, room was a good size, comfortable, clean and well maintained and the hotel massage on the waters edge was great. Overall a great stay on a beautiful island, 3 days was enough for us but there are many scuba diving companies on the island. If we return to Koh Phi Phi we will be staying at Mamas.

Fabulous beach front hotel with good facilities. Pretty setting in a quiet corner of the resort away from the main centre which is easily reached by foot along the sea front. Dinner is set in a very romantic setting.

Room Tip: Avoid a boat trip to Maya beach at peak times as it gets ridiculously crowded.

Initially worried as on Phi Phi don no motorized vehicles are allowed except police and ambulance.

We had called up the hotel in a day in advance to pick us up at the pier. The staff was present while we arrived with a carriage for our luggage. Impressive!

The hotel is a 10 min brisk walk to the left of the pier. However as you walk ahead the commotion reduces. The Pier is generally busy during the day time. Best to be away from the pier for a relaxing holiday.

The rooms are tiny, however very elegantly designed and peaceful. The balcony is good if you have a sea view. The wifi signal is strong in the reception area. The rooms behind have very very limited wifi range.

The loungers setup on the beach are awesome.Very Very good. Most of the guest end up spending their maximum time here.

The view of beach was not as pleasant as a variety of boats/ferries are parked on this side of the beach.

The Loh Dalum beach is a better beach and a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel. Look for a small board near Arisa Speed Boat Shop that reads Koh Chao bungalow and make a left there. If you miss this, you end up walking to the pier and making a left which would be a 15-20 min walk all together.

The breakfast was good with eggs made to order. A Thai breakfast also involves soup/rice/noodle and I was looking forward to it. Did not find it in the buffet.

The prices in Phi Phi are on the higher side compared to other places in thailand. The hotel if you would compare might not be at par for the price you pay elsewhere in Thailand.

I walked around on the island on both sides and confirm they are better than a bunch of hotels on the island.

Room Tip: Sea Views are better than Garden View

We stayed at Mama Beach for 5 days.Upon our arrival at the port a representative of Mama beach was there to greet us. He took our luggage for us and lead us to the hotel. The hotel is a great location. It is in walking distance from the town. It's a very quiet and relaxing location. The rooms are clean and always smell nice. I absolutely loved that the shower was open and you can look outside while showering. Not to worry however because it's high enough that nobody can see you. There is a restaurant on the premises with an excellent cook. The owner is French and most of the meals are French inspired but they also have Thai food. The staff is friendly and willing to help out with tours or any questions and suggestions. The only thing that was a bit frustrating is the wifi. We had a room towards the back and you can't get a good connection so we would just go to the front desk and use the wifi from there and it works perfectly. When it was time to check out the same representative took our luggage back to the peir and walked with us.If you are looking for comfort, cleanliness and a good quiet location this is the place to stay.

Coming off the pier and looking to the bunfight of the places to stay on the right it is so cool to walk left and follow the beach all the ways to lands end where Mama Beach awaits. We had a great room for 3 nights with a sea view - well worth it for the view from the balcony. The breakfast was really nice with the outdoor feel and that view all the time. The staff were very kind.
The only annoyance is the tide being right out and it's very hard to get wet.
