“Great views, loads of stairs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2012

We booked Agoda late the evening before arriving. Our booking had not come through due to a fault on our end, they were kind and gave us a room - same price as the one we thought we had paid. The stairs were massive, yes. We are pretty fit, so it was only just bearable, but on a hot day, phewf! The food at the restaurant - breakfast was nice, the other meals were pretty good, but I would prefer somewhere else. The rooms were clean and you could have them cleaned everyday if you wished.

Spent 3 nights here. Phiphi hotels cost more, so this hotel was $80 a night for what I'd rate as pretty average. i suspect you could get better value elsewhere.
Pros: good wireless but you need to use it in lobby. Beds are softer than other hotels we've stayed in the last month (huge plus for back pain sufferers). Lovely view of both sides of tonsai, 5 min walk to town & beach (we recommend that you follow the trail to long beach - easy 30 min walk & beautiful). Phiphi grew a bit old after 3 days - we found the sales pressure & inflated prices, and unwillingness to barter on "farang" prices frustrating. Also skip the charter tours and crowded boats. Rent a kayak and paddle 40 min to monkey beach woth some snorkel gear.
Room service was great, clean room each return in the afternoon. Shower has good pressure & is hot. Decent tv but no free wifi in rooms.
Cons: we were openly lied to by the front desk staff about the cost of the ferry to krabi. They wanted 900bht for 2 tickets, we knew it was half of that in town, we called her out on it. After some very awkward moments, she charged us the proper price, but our trust was broken. Dissapointing as We've had an anazing time elsewhere in thailand booking trips through our hotels who have been honest with us. check all prices in town.

Everyone comments on the stairs - yes they get your heart going but if you are fit/active, not a big deal, you will be glad to burn off the beer! The main town is a 5 min walk though you do have to go through what seems to be the local garbage dumping area, so hold your noses & don't walk in the puddles there.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Staff came to pick up our luggage at the pier. there were 120 steps before reaching our room and had to take a shower each time we arrived back at the hotel!! However must say that the view from our room was amazing!! at least something!!!

the room was very big, kingsize bed and sofa. The bathroom was very big.

the good think is that from this hotel you are already half way to reach the viewpoint 1 , 2 and 3!!

avoid the breakfast we found it disgusting.

After trekking 20 minutes, and climbing 120 stairs to arrive at the hotel, our experience that followed would turn off any would-be traveller.

Having booked and secured our reservation three days in advance, we discovered upon arrival that the hotel had decided to extend an existing traveller's stay, and had sent an email (to an incorrect address) to inform us they could not honour our agreed booking, and would need to downgrade us. As this email was misdirected, we could not reply, and our entire booking was cancelled without us knowing!

We arrived to a fully-booked hotel, and the cordial greeting we received quickly turned cold, careless, and downright rude when it was clear we would not be staying with them.

At best, the handling of our booking was negligent and unprofessional.

After being turned away, without an apology or an offer of assistance with our luggage back down to 120 stairs, we found Phi Phi Beach Front Resort - with wonderful staff, an infinitely better location, and room rates half the price of the terrible Arboreal.

Having stayed in a dozen hotels over a six-week period in South-East Asia, this is the worst hotel we have encountered.

Stayed for 3 nights. Firstly in an over priced room up the very top. Fantastic view and big room but COLD shower and way too many stairs! We moved to a very small room close to the restaurant for the following 2 nights...teeny but loved not having to walk the extra stairs. We tried to stay for a few more days and were told yes but the following day at breakfast we were told no - got quite upset as it was close to NYE and accommodation was pretty full in Ko Phi Phi. The guest house directly below Arboreal accommodated us fortunately for the same price and the room was big and views still great. I must say though...the Thai food at Arboreal was excellent so we ate their after we checked out for several days. I recommend the Pad Kaprow Goong - YUM! The banana fritters are also excellent. The restaurant staff were super lovely and I miss them already :)

Beware when you let Thai travel agents book accommodation for you. We were going to book Mama Beach Resort but were told this was great and someone would meet us from the Ferry. On arrival at Phi Phi island there was no one from the resort to meet us. Taxi man took our bags for 250B to resort steps, which was quite a walk from the beach and pier. 135 large steps up to reception awaited my wife and I in humid conditions, Greeting at reception not that great. Paid for room and told it was at the top of resort. Another 117 large steps and ramps awaited us to get to our room. We were exhausted by the time we got to our room and decided this was not a suitable place to stay due to the fact of the 255 stairs, no pool and right away from the beach. Went straight down to reception and said the resort was unsuitable for us due to the above. Beware.... they would not refund any of our money. Even though we had just paid. Got on the Internet and booked Mama Beach Resort which was right on the beach and fantastic. I cannot recommend Arboreal Resort to anyone.

Brilliant island and if you want ultimate luxury you need to look at the most expensive hotels. The hotel is high up and the stairs take it out of you especially in heat.

Beware that nature is all around as on the morning of check out I struggled to leave as I was surrounded by monkeys!
