Jasmine is more popular than Sawasdee Restaurant, but I'm pretty sure the owner is not trying to compete on the same level.

Went here for lunch for variety after trying Jasmine the night before. From 12 to 1, there was only one other couple. 1 for 1 cocktails during that period (can't remember the exact timeslots, possibly another from 4-7pm).

The difference from Jasmine is that it is more expensive (perhaps about 40% more), offers a wider menu (Western choices available here, but I've read from other reviews than perhaps sticking to their Thai food is better), more attention paid to presentation of the dish, more upmarket feel (better furniture and construction, Jasmine is more of a small roadside canteen, this is a properly constructed restaurant). Lastly, it is just beside Jasmine, and that means it avoids having the fleet of longtail boats docked at the shore just in front of Jasmine, giving more view of the sea.

Couldn't say whether it is better than Jasmine or not based on 1 visit, but I personally enjoyed both equally. Depends on whether you would want to dish out the extra cash to try both.

If you are at the holiday inn, you eat at Jasmine. The other options are the hotel's restaurants (very expensive) or Sawasdee. We tried Sawasdee and regretted it immensely. it is more expensive than Jasmine and the food is clearly not as good. But the real disappointment was the service. Walking by at our first day, we say a squared space limited by ropes in the middle of the tables. We inquired and they said they would have a thai boxing exhibition the next night at 8pm. We decided to check it out and made a reservation. Next night we were there at 7.30, got our reserved table, asked again about the thai boxing, and they confirmed: at 8 pm. We ordered. Food came. Slowly, we ate (so so quality but worth if it came with the boxing). At 8.40, we inquire about the time of the fight. The answer: 'sorry, it was moved to tomorrow at 8pm'. Just unbelievable. I made my disappointment clear. Talked with maybe 4 members of staff. It was nobody's fault, they were just informed the day of the fight has changed, I heard several times. We paid, and went to next door Jasmine for desert and extra drinks.

In reality, the problem is not really about not seeing the fight, but with the 'little game' played to mislead customers to come. I don't like that. Given it is more expensive and has worse food than Jasmine next door, only the uninformed should dine at Sawasdee.

The nicest Restaurant if you want to escape the overpriced hotels for dinner. I do not believe the bad references and even the picture does not look like Sawasdee (more like Jasmin with those plastic chairs).
The Restaurant Sawasdee is located between Holiday Inn resort and Zeavola.
Next to the Restaurant Jasmin. We found it way better (more delicious, much better ambiance) than in Jasmin Restaurant next door.
The portions are a little smaller than in Jasmin. Price mostly similar to Jasmin and less expensive than at Holiday Inn.
You are sitting direclty at the beach (feet in the sand!!), have a nice candle on the table, staff is very nice and service could not be better!
You are sitting on wooden chairs (Jasmin on plastic). Around 8pm there is entertainment (boxing, dancing, a.s.o.).
They have Thai food, western food and fish barbecue.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn and ate here a number of times because of the standard of food, price, atmosphere and service. I don't understand why this restaurant is not more highly rated. it is far better than the Jasmine next door. The Shrimp Cakes in particuar were wonderful and the best we tasted in Thailand - and we tried a few. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and made sure our meals were cooked without too much chilli when we asked. It was also nice to have some entertainment each evening, sometimes with a show put on by the staff themselves. Overall very good value and always a pleasant experience.

Why not try it? There are really only a few other places around to eat. We ended up eating here a few times and enjoyed it each time. As long as you stick with the Thai food you will do great. Anything else, like western or fried foods will not be nearly as good. The drinks are expensive and just alright, stick to the Thai food.
