we walked from the phi phi jetty to this long beach hotel . it takes a full 20 minutes on foot or pay for a longtail which cost B1000. enroute we can choose from the many hotels spread out along this beach. as its low season , the rate is about B2000 c/w breakfast for 3 of us. rooms are clean and food is ok. Staff is friendly. the sea fronting the hotel is clean and clear but choppy due to the season. a short walk of 10 minutes farther and turn inland , up the hill , we come to a lovely small bay call ao poh with good snorkeling and sheltered waters. in the evenings, its a short walk to town for dinner and the paths are lighted so no problem at all.

We really loved our stay at Paradise Pearl, and I'm glad I didn't take peoples' comments about 'grumpy' staff too seriously because it really is a great place.

In essence, if you're looking for a beautiful location, with easy access to the activity of town and surrounds, but with relative peace at night; and if you're cost-conscious and don't mind things a little rustic and charming; then this may be the place for you.

Pro's:
-Easily accessible (at almost any time of night) from Ton Sai (the main town) by inexpensive Longtail boat or by foot. We explored a fair bit of the island by kayak or by Longtail and it was quite expensive to commute to Ton Sai from any of the resorts farther away than Long Beach (which is where Paradise Pearl is located)
-The food (especially the Thai food) was really good and the main restaurant area is right on the beach under the trees. They set out lights at night and it's really beautiful to dine under the stars, overlooking Ko Phi Phi Leh island in the distance.
-All Bungalows were well positioned, clean, and among the nicest we saw on ko Phi-Phi. Obviously bear in mind that you're staying in a third-world country and that their sense of style is not generally typical of a Westerners.
-The beach was super for swimming. (Although not great for snorkelling.)
-There is a little well-priced shop there which stocks all the basics - even medical basics - as well as alcohol etc.
-The Spa there is fantastic. 300Bht for a quality Thai Masage. You're massaged beneath a typical open-sided Thai roofed space - all clean and well apportioned. It's also set back just off the beach, so you can hear the ocean etc. And it's open until 10pm!
-The resort seemed to be really cosmopolitan, which I always prefer. I hate travelling to a foreign destination and being stuck in 'Little Russia' or 'Little Australia' etc.

Con's
-The snorkelling is really not great - Long Beach has clearly just been too abused by the boats that trawl up and down there all day. If you're there primarily for snorkelling, you should think about trying somewhere else. Having said this though, we hired a kayak one day and kayaked up the coast, jumping in to snorkel as and when we wished - which was lovely. We also went on a snorkelling trip to Ko Phi Phi Leh with Adventure Club (based in Tonsai) the one day, and this was amazing. So there are ways to get around the lack of snorkelling on Long Beach.
-If you want absolute peace-and-quiet, then this is not the place for you. It is quite unbelievable the amount of boats which travel to and from Long Beach all day, to say nothing of those that have to pass Long Beach to get to all the other hotels up the coast. And we were there in April, which is not high season!
-The pillow was the most uncomfortable I've EVER slept on
-The dishwasher at the restaurant may be in need of glasses - the plates at breakfast were not the cleanest

Other (in response to some peoples' negative reviews)
-We found the staff to be perfectly pleasant. They are laid-back island folk and I think it's just typically the Thai way not to get too panicked about anything. We found this to be typical of the Thai people - which is part of their charm. It's true that at certain times of the day the service is not great, but if you just approach a staff member in a pleasant manner, you'll be assisted.
-There is a sign up in the room about having to pay 2000Bht for loss of a key. We experience this same thing at an amazing 5-star hotel we stayed at in Phuket too. Their room keys have a card attached which controls the room's lights and I can imagine that if the keys are lost, the replacement value and effort is probably substantial for the staff. Without the warning, guests would probably be more careless with the keys. So we basically didn't have a problem with this.

Stayed in the beach bungalows which was lovely though the shower water had a horrible chemical taste but otherwise great, especially the view of the beach from the room!
Lovely cheap tasty food and nice to eat on the beach. Overall an amazingly beautiful location (15 min walk to main town) though little things that could be sorted easily (staff on reception ignoring you while he finishes his game, non chemical water, not so stingy on wifi - hour free a day) would make it perfect.

My daughter and I stayed there for 1 night which was enough. The beach was stunning. You could snorkel on the shoreline and see all kinds of fish. There were not enough beach chairs so we had to sit on the sand. People walk here to enjoy the beach and I'm not sure if some of them had chairs as we did see a couple walk in and then take a couple chairs. The rooms were just ok. They were spacious and clean. There were no plugins to use in our room , S5. There were lamps by the bed with their cords just hanging as there was no place to plug them in. Our toilet wouldn't flush properly and water kept pouring out the back. They did come fix it when asked. The resort area is really beautiful but I just don't feel that comfortable in the room. I thought the breakfast was good, a decent variety. As for the staff, I did not find them rude but I did notice that no one smiles at all. It looks like they really don't enjoy being there. Oh well, that didn't stop me from smiling at them. I think the resort is way overpriced. You only get 1 hour of Internet and for the price you pay, it should be included. We enjoyed the walk to town. It is not bad at all, a little climb up a bank to begin with and easy from there on and only 15 min walk. Would I stay here again, Not likely because of the price

Perfect location on the beach with view of Phi Phi Ley. The room, M2, was at the end of the resort, it was clean. of a good size everything worked and the bathroom was fine. Decor uninteresting but we could sit on the large balcony and watch the sea who needs to be inside with that view. Finding the water in bathroom was not fresh by making tea with it was not pleasant but only happened once then used fresh. The water was brackish so maybe bore water.

Food when we ate there was okay, resort food and for tourists so no great expectations. Prices for food were reasonable, for a beer they were dear but so were the convenience stores. Breakfast was okay, eggs, descent bread, fresh fruit tea and coffee cereal and assorted Thai dishes. The sausages were weird and so were the chicken (I think) slices but the cat and kittens who had befriended us said they were good.

Hired masks and snorkels, they were good quality and snorkelling off the point at the end of the beach was amazing for the variety of fish.

We hired a boat with 3 other adults one day and went snorkelling at Mosquito Bay, cheap way to go and great fun and value. The boat broke down but no major drama.

We were worried beach may be crowded and noisy or snobby, it wasn' t. Never too many people and for the most part friendly.

The walk to town is good exercise, and the state of the track is not the fault of the resort.

Down points, rubbish on beach and rubbish collection at end of resort which meant some rubbish blown back. Again not the resorts fault but would be good for their image if they did an evening clean up.

Lack of smiles. The cleaners and one waitron were fine but the rest were not particularly friendly.

Worst point Having to leave.

Would I go back? Right now if I could.

Room Tip: Free standing beachfront rooms are great. M1 and M2.
